Ghouls and Ghasts.
I don’t know if this has been addressed...
How long would it take to become a Ghoul/Ghast in the Moathouse?
Would all corpses eventually become Undead? For example the Gnoll, Gren, PC’s, etc?

Re: Ghouls and Ghasts.
Pg. 19 "...except for the ghouls and ghasts. These horrors seem to always be present, no matter how many are destroyed (this is due to the influence of Tharizdun's shrine..."
I believe the shrine it refers to is the one hidden in the maze behind the crypts. Unless the party removes the shrine, I don't see why any dead bodies in the moathouse don't become ghouls or ghasts.

How long do you think it would take before the dead rise? I ask as one of the dead party members has beel left behind.
I was thinking 24 hours or at midnight.

Re: Ghouls and Ghasts.
That kind of depends on you. If you want the party to encounter the now-risen bodies of their former comrades (and opponents), then 24 hours is lots.
Alternatively, you could have the evil dead rise faster than the good (or neutral) dead. Say, 24 hours for evil, 48 for neutral, 72 for good. This makes defeating the undead easier for the party if you think that all of the undead are too much to handle all at once.
If you are looking for reactions to the party's comrades rising as undead, don't expect much. In a previous campaign, my party didn't blink an eye and slaughtered the undead, since they figured that the souls of their comrades had already gone on to the outer planes.

Re: Ghouls and Ghasts.
Well, a PC dying in the corrupting pool rises immediately as a ghast. So, I think 24 hours is the limit for it to happen. I suggest maybe you give the PC's and/or NPC's a will/fort save to avoid becoming a ghoul/ghast without the pool. Those who save are merely eaten by newly risen or spawned ghouls and ghasts.

Re: Ghouls and Ghasts.
Well I did decide to make a player awaken as a ghast, this is pretty much what I have planned as I like the idea of making plots and role-playing stuff to a point (even death).
FYI, I decided a few nasties surprises and one of them resulted in the party being blown to bits… basically I had Chat chuck the bead of force at them.
Basically I wrote this in a broken fashion (like Jacobs ladder) about the character’s death experience.
Anyway…
The falling of death.
The last thing you remember was a savage yet glorious battle with gnolls, you were winning, then a buzzing blast that shattered you mind as agony crept through your body; then all was peaceful, so peaceful.
As you gaze at the fallen bodies you recount that none now stand where you were; your thoughts race and settle as a soothing calm washes over you like a warm tide.
Whether it was fear or the absence of pain your vision fades so that all things lose colour, becoming blurs of grey. The warmth you felt seems to be tainted with a coldness; barley perceptible. All thing become Black.
The Coldness, it is always there, what should be the fields of Ysgard is nothingness; nothingness is all that remains, a void.
What seems like an eternity brings a faint almost inaudible whisper upon the lips of the Coldness, calling you in an alien tongue, begging you to listen, pleading for you to open you eyes.
Falling down, the chorus of whispers is all that keeps the consciences alive like an inhuman heart; your will to fall into the nothingness is lost and not your choice.
The cold pleads to you again, “open you eyes”, open them and live again; this is your choice.
As if awakening from a long and tiresome slumber you open your eyes, a hunger now within you. The Coldness your new master… Nothing but the burning desire for vengeance fills you mind, you were left behind, you were forgotten, You were NOTHING.
The party left the dead behind and that pettiness was the fueled for the hatred.

Re: Ghouls and Ghasts.
Cool!!! I like it. Let us know how it plays out. I really like the idea of revenge for being left behind. In fact, I'm going to use that idea. Thanks for the inspiration.
