Lightning Tower Sorcerer
I have a need to know the stats for a Lightning Tower Sorcerer. I couldn't find anything in the BoB. Take a look at what I have come up with using the DMG. The biggest questions come from interpretting the Gear from the DMG NPCs and coming up with logical spell known list. Any suggestions for changes, clarifications or to point out errors are welcome.

Karlov, human, Sor6; CR 6; HD 6d4+9; hp 24; init +6; Spd 30 ft.; AC 13 (touch 12, flat 11); Atk: +3 melee (1d8-1, shortspear), +7 ranged (1d8, light x-bow); AL NE; SV: F/R/W +5/+5/+7; Str 8, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 16; Skills&Feats: Spellcraft +9, Concentration +10 (+14 when casting on the defensive), Scry +3, Knowledge (arcana) +6; Toughness, Improved Initiative, Combat Casting, Dodge; Possessions: shortspear, masterwork light x-bow, 10 masterwork bolts, potion of cure moderate wounds, scroll of hold person, bracers of armor +1, cloak of resistance +1, wand of melf's acid arrow (30), dagger, contact medallion; Spell DC 13 + spell level

Spell Known: 7/4/2/1; Spells per day: 6/7/6/4
0- resistance, detect magic, read magic, light, mage hand, mending, ray of frost
1- shield, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, charm person
2- web, invisibility
3- flame arrow

My interpretation of the NPC gear in the DMG is that they only have the gear that the parenthetical notation indicate if they are the level indicated or if their level falls within the range of indicated level. Otherwise, NPCs would have incredible amounts of treasure. For example, if the gear was "cumulative" then the above sorcerer would also have potions of: blur, invisibility, cat's grace and cure serious wounds; scrolls of: magic missile (2), sheild (2), sleep (2), color spray (2), invisibility, invisibility (2), melf's acid arrow (2), and web (2); wands of: sleep, burning hands, and magic missile; a thunderstone, tanglefoot bag (2), a smokestick and alchemist fire.

I haven't added up the treasure value, but I suspect that the cumulative gear may be over the character wealth of a 6th level character.

Thoughts on NPC gear? Any changes you'd make to the Spell Known list? I don't have a lot of experience with creating NPC from the DMG. I am using the D&D core rules sorcerer class, so please no suggestions based on alternate versions.

Not bad
I think it's pretty ok. I'd change Toughness for some metamagic feat like Empower Spell or Extend Spell, but that's just me.

Sorcerors
Tritherion - I posted stats for two sorcerors a while back...they're in pretty imminent danger of falling off the end of the board though :)

I too found the DMG gear to be a bit overloaded - I presumed that some of it would get used up, so thinned it down a little.
What remains is mostly scrolls of low-level spells and a couple of low-level wands - I don't think it's too much - no magic weapons/shields/armour to speak of.

Maybe we could get some of these stats into BoB so the work's done for anyone else...??

Yeah, but if you replace it with a metamagic feat, it takes a full round to cast the spell... Otherwise it looks pretty slick.

Re: Not bad
Just a note that NPC gear posted on the tables presumes that some earlier stuff has been used up. Granted I haven't checked values on the individual NPC tables vs. the stating $ by level table.

Additionally under the rewards section of the DMG it mentions that NPCs are high treasure encounters (frex: as technically are dragons except that they nerfed dragons CR), and simply states to balance them with some low treasure encounters.

From the NPC's point of view he would act just like a PC and generally want and attempt to aquire permanent stuff over non-permanent stuff. Still a good amount of his equipment $ will go to non-permanent stuff anyway. And a portion (a large portion if the NPC gets away to fight another day) gets used against the party. That's a double whammy, first it makes the NPC tougher and second its gone from his treasure.

I think these reasons justify leaving NPC equipment values alone and being fair to provide a reasonable portion of it in stuff that will wind up in the PCs hands.

In this case I believe a 6th level NPC has 5,600gp worth.

Trithereon and Grumgarr, I've saved your sorcerers for posterity. I was actually looking for Grumgarr's sorcerers a while back but I couldn't find 'em. Now they're BoB'ed. Frozen for eternity. Whee! :rollin
