Personality "quirks": moathouse (Vile, Mature)
Notes on personality and "quirks" of the moathouse cultists:

Festrath, after summoning the grell and being attacked by it, just went nuts and now is paranoid. He's going to attack anyone and anything that gets in his range.

Garrik is a brutal sadist and loves torturing anything he captures - especially humans. He usually flays his victims alive and slowly eats them until they finally die. Garrik follows Ysslansh, as he would never work for a human; Ysslansh is the only reason he doesn't kill them all.

Geynor Ton is a slightly slow-witted thug. He lives for destruction and isn't subtle about it. He wants to kill the dragon now now now!

Gren has a burning hatred for Ysslansh. Once the troglodyte took over control of the excavation, he raped Gren (using his stench to subdue her). She is planning on striking back at him (and doing worse to him than what he did to her, with hot pokers), but Ysslansh controls most of the ghasts and the gnolls. She hopes that she can take him unawares with her skeletons. Even with her burning hatred for Ysslansh, she will fight to the death to keep the artifacts in her hands. She might make an alliance with the PCs, information for her escape, taking the artifacts back to Dunrat in Hommlet, but she won't agree to this unless the PCs give her Ysslansh alive (and unconcious).
She doesn't know it yet, but she is pregnant.

Ysslansh is an inhuman monster with a taste for blood, flesh, and pain. His motivations are crazed, only wanting to hurt and hurt more. Garrik routinely punishes his minions by giving them an hour with Ysslansh. Usually they come back alive and only slightly broken. He is getting impatient and anxious to get back to civilization, where there are many souls for him to hurt.

Strong stomachs?
Yeah, me too. ;) But you gotta go with what you feel. I haven't yet run it, so I might scale back the ick-factor if I hear complaints; but writing this stuff up is cathartic. I felt like this module should be totally creepy, so that's what I'm going for.

Thanks for labelling these threads 'mature'.

As I think you're aware, this stuff treads a fine line in terms of acceptable content on a 'family' board.

However, as long as it doesn't get more explicit and you continue to clearly label the threads, it should be okay.

Thanks.

I'm adding this and the other BoVD thread to the BoB (BoVD tie-in post). It is very good.

However, I completely understand if Monte/the Mods begin to feel that the post gets... well, too vile. If that's the case, I'll re-edit the post.

I would suggest that it's separated from the rest of the BoVD mechanics-oriented content (maybe in the same post, but at the bottom) and labelled as mature.

That way people can use the BoVD game elements but don't have to read through the 'flavor' bits. They'd also know what they're getting into before they start reading the 'flavor' section.

Roger that - I'll get on it tomorrow (tonight, States-time). Good idea.

Thanks! That's what I was going for. Although this stuff doesn't bother me that much. I wonder if I'm getting a thick skin?

As I go deeper into the module, things will probably get worse. Not so much in the Crater Ridge Mines, but the Fanes should be an ick-fest. Hopefully I can get some things out that even I don't want to read.

Still here? Wow.

Re: icks
And I will faithfully add it to the BoB. I will, however, support the Mods/Monte completely if they at some point decide that enough is enough - even for a thread marked Vile and Mature.

I agree
If that happens, I'll post censored versions that should be okay, and make the rest available through email.
