Time.
My group went to the Moathouse first in the game then they went to Hommlet and killed the people in the mill. They then split the party up for a week and did no real adventuring. Two of my players stayed in Hommlet while the rest of them went to the big city. The group never killed the main cleric in the Moathouse because they didn't go down to find him.
What developments should have happened during this week that would alter the way things go.

Well, you can read the thread on Festrath for some ideas. If you don't want to add in the robes, Festrath will either need to leave or turn into a ghoul/ghast. Two excellent renditions are statted out at the bottom of the thread (thanks to ZansForCans and Tristan D'Arque).

IMC, the party was gone for 23 days. So, I had Festrath use his potion of flying and fight the grell mano-a-aberration. It actually lasted for a while, with both mutually retreating. I then thought of a cool idea (so I think anyway, it's mine!): what if they join forces and become friends? When the party arrived they had to retrieve the both platforms because Festrath spends his time on the bottom. Festrath notices the platform rising, so sends the grell up with it. A battle ensued, but the grell escaped. At the bottom, they fight the grell and Festrath and a couple of summoned monsters. During the battle, Festrath is yelling commands at the grell and calling it Wilson. Heh heh. Blatant, nearly ridiculous movie ripoff from Cast Away, but very effective. He's insane, right? When the grell died, though, the RP was great. I got up, stormed round, spittle flying around yelling out "Wilsooooooon!" I've never had my group be so utterly silent before.

The grell gathered all the corpses left behind and has been eating those. The only one not fully eaten was the old PC Keth the monk, who I used the ghast template and put at the edge of the pool.

In 23 days, Festrath might even have figured out how to ride a grell. Which would certainly be fun...

What if all the dead bodies the PCs left behind became ghouls?

What if Elmo grew concerned about why Ol' Del is scaring everyone in Homlet with tales of an army of walking dead at the moat house?

What if Spugs or someone else (Telna?) discovers a destroyed wagon and a dead grick near the moathouse but no bodies?

Did big U survive? If so see the BOB... the Hobgoblins could be growing bolder.

Did the PCs get the clue about Rastor?

The party in my campaign burnt all the bodies in the Moathouse (not sure why... I don't think it was a concern about them coming back as undead, just leftover hatred for Chat in particular).

So, I figure, some of them will be waiting for them as burning skeletons when they come back... :evil

Re: Festrath and the Grell
Well my group destroyed Big U in three or four rounds. Big U did a critical fumble and fell on his butt. The fighter used a spiked chain to hold him down. And the druids tiger pounced on the dragon. while everyone else beat the crap out of it.

So would that main cleric stay in the Moathouse, or would he go tell others about the infiltration. The group got the letter but whether or not they will even remember anything about Rastor is beyond me. They are more loot oriented. I am in the mood right now to call the module off and let the group go whereever they want to.
