Re: Hmmm
"Heh, we'll just have to agree to disagree, eh?"

No! I agree with you. No, really, I do. I think I just miscommunicated. I didn't mean to make it impossible. You're right, if none of the PC's have anything to take down a WoF, then don't use it. However, WoF is only 5th level, and the party should be well aware of it. Also, IIRC they can find out about the existence of the rod of force from Varachan (but maybe not) and know that their opponents are capable of such spells. Anyway, if the spellcasters do not select the appropriate spells or somehow prepare for them, I don't think the DM should modify the bad guys plans such that the players would succeed. In that case, the party should retrieve the orb, leave, prepare accordingly, and come back to defeat Imix and Lareth.

Surely, someone has one of the following: rod of cancellation, disintegrate, dim door, anitmagic field (does it affect WoF?), or teleport.

I got an idea!!!
Just came out of the blue.. out of nowhere that I strongly s uggest that there should be a new triad recently establish by Imix!!

The terrible three should consist of Hedrack, Tessimon (due to her affinity with fire), and D'Gran (completely rein by Imix. They all should gain several levels to put up a further challenge the party.

I do have a question for you, Thrommel, suppose that (unlikely) a party defeat and kill Solar and took his/her equipments and in the fire node, what will exactly happen? I mean, solar is dead and the lock will be completely broken without Solar strength! I said that the lock should be guard by a titan *grin*

Beside, a cleric can use planear allies to assist Solar to keep the lock together!!!:b

Quote.. "So you can spend the time you would have spent on the edit function telling us how it went!" ....end quote.

I will post how the battle went but it may not be for a few more days. I have been very busy at work this week but as soon as I am able I will do the write up (both for the final battle and the RttToEE in retrospect post as well) and post it here.

Re: Final Battle
Well DeafDM, I guess if the party killed the solar, then they'll probably all be camped out around Imix, wearing little party hats and waiting for Almighty Tharizdun to hand them each a big piece of cake with a candle and a sphere of annihilation on top.

:p

Re: well
DMArmand, I strongly encourage you to look at the Best of the Boards section where Thrommel presents his own Divine Imix, and I present an analysis of same.

You can see it there, but basically I brought up that due to Armor Class, Mobility and SR, the Divine version of Imix is practically unkillable with a knowledgable DM.

Your guys may be far more powerful than I'm giving them credit, but I do encourage you to at least look at the analysis first.

"Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

Re: well
Andorax, I already read the Best of the Boards.:D
Here's my group: all at 13th lvl
a Weaponmaster (Spring attack=no AoO for Reach)
Paladin/fighter (great saves)
Psychic warrior (Spring attack=no AoO for Reach)
Thief
Wizard (lower resistance)
Sorcerer

The 3 fighters all have "temperary" weapons that can hurt Imix (Spell boost)
Wizard (lower resistance drops Imix SR from 32 to 19)
Sorcerer has just to darn many spells.............

+ Kella the druid, Elmo and Canoness Y´dey are with them what kind people would they be if they weren't

P.S. I double the amount of enemy's in the Fire Node:evil

I'll give you the full store after this is done:D

Re: well
DeafDM, I think the idea is cool, and the candidates are cool. D'Gran defintely needs to be developed, as I personally think that much of his appeal on this board lies in his seeming unbeatability (is that a word?).

But while the idea of a new triad is great, I'd definitely make it grow under the auspices of Tharizdun rather than having Imix as the sponsor. I see Imix as a tool. A darn powerful and independant one, but still just a tool. I mean, the sucker's actually content just sitting around in the Fire Node roasting marshmallows in his armpits (okay, that was gross but admit it, also a little funny).

So my comment would be Triad 2.0 - Yes! Powered by Imix™ - Nah.

The Final Battle
I finally have some time to post the happenings of the final battle with Imix in my campaign. A few more days turned out to be more than a week and for that I apologize. Here goes...

I pretty much used the set up Thrommel and I had discussed earlier in the thread, Imix and Lareth in the room with the altars with a wall of force around them and another wall of force over the entrance to the room. I had Maliskra (which I made a fiendish half fire elemental 11th level caster) and Magma (my CR 14 red dragon) in the greater temple area. Maliskra was at the entrance to the room with an anti life shell spell active and Magma was waiting in the room invisibly for the fun to start.

The party teleported into the greater temple and Talon notices Magma with his see invisibilty spell. Maliskra was alive after the first round but was almost useless (except fopr the anti-life shell) as she had weaken resistance and a feeblemind spell successfully cast on her. Magma's impact was felt however as she snatched Arthur up in her maw and there was no way he was getting out on his own.

Vallis continued his power up suite while Xarpolis and Talon nailed Magma with spells. Darien moved forward to melee with Magma. Arthur continued to try and escape the dragon's maw but couldn't even come close and took a boatload of damage every round. At this point no one could access the back room so I continued to build the suspense as the void between the altars grew.

Xarpolis decides to take down the first wall of force with a disintigrate spell and Arthur gets a break as the dragon actually fumbled! As things didn't look all that well for the group at the time I decided to have the dragon accidentally drop Arthur at her feet. Once that happened Talon unleashed the pain on Magma with 2 empowered cone of colds and she only saved against one of them. Down to single digits I could only smile as Talon used his last empowered cone of cold the next round to finish her off.

Meanwhile Xarpolis brought down the last wall of force effect and Lareth put up another. Then Xarpolis brings the second one down as well! Before Lareth's next action Talon uses a forcecage on Lareth and he's out of the battle for the duration. Arthur and Darien move forward to do battle with Imix who still holds the Orb while the vortex grows.

Arthur moves into the room just as Imix tosses the Orb towards the vortex. Arthur's player looks at the grid trying to find a way to intercept the Orb without entering the vortex. I inform him that it isn't possible, the shortest route to the flying Orb is thru the vortex. A chorus of moans follow and Arthur goes for it throwing himself into the vortex of energy intercepting the Orb in mid-flight.

Imix roars and Arthur using his last action for the round runs out of the room with the Orb. Xarpolis uses telekinesis to take it from Arthur and bring it towards him so that Imix will have to deal with Arthur and Darien before being able to grab the Orb. Imix benefited a bit from that divine rank of 0 at this point. I don't believe the players got one spell to affect him. Arthur and Darien were able to take him out however since both of their weapons were power suited fairly well.

In the end Imix did a fair amount of damage to the PCs but Vallis had a few heals memorized and just laid back waiting to use them. The battle would have been alot tougher if we would have just stuck with the PHB and not all of the splatbooks out there. In the beginning it looked real grim for the PCs to be honest and I think all 4 of the NPCs at once may have been too much for them to handle. I must say tension was high at first but once they defeated the enemy there were smiles all around. It was pretty cool, a fitting way to end the adventure.

Once again I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to these boards. I'd like to name them all but there are just too many and I know I'd forget someone along the way. Our group has had it's full of 3e for now and we will start a D20 Modern game with another player taking the mantle of running the game so I'll get a chance to play a bit for now. We are going to return to this campaign when we play 3e next so I'll have some time to plan which is good for me.

I plan to do a "post" adventure report as well which should be up soon hopefully. I enjoyed reading Thrommel's and it reminded me of a few things at the time I had been overlooking, hopefully mine can do the same. I will still be around daily for the most part and will try to chime in when I can. Once again thanks to everyone here and good luck with your respective campaigns.

Re: The Final Battle
Congratulations on bringing your campaign to an exciting close. Kudos. I hope you'll stick around. It seems that precious few of us have completed the adventure, so whatever perspective you guys have will benefit all of us.

Congrats again, and good luck with D20M.

Re: The Final Battle
That's great, ronin! I'm glad it worked out well for the party. Give them our share of praise. One question, though. What did they do with Lareth in the forcecage? Even if they killed him, did they do something with the body?

Congrats man, sounds like you gave them a real run for it!

Bask in that sense of accomplishment while you can -- it doesn't take long lurking around here to get the itch to start up another run of RttToEE, trust me!

-Thrommel, who notes that dark reaver powder is just the thing to take care of that itch.

Lareth?
When the group finished off Imix they decided to lay the smackdown on Lareth as well. Their plan was to surround the forcecage and bring it down, then just beat Lareth to a bloody pulp.

As soon as they brought the forcecage down Lareth burrowed into the ground planning to escape into the Fire Node. The players figured that out and ran to the entrance to the Node and waited. With Lareth only moving 20' a round they had plenty of time to prepare. Darien placed a blade barrier over the symbol- the result was blended Lareth.

I probably could have had him escape to fight another day but I think they would have tracked him down eventually. This seemed like a good moment to give the players a sense of accomplishment without dragging the ending out longer than needed. I am glad it ended the way it did, it turned out to be a great ending.
