The Various and Sundy Orbs
Can someone please explain to me why the cult needs the Orb of Silvery Death if they already possess the Orb of Oblivion? If the party in my campaign manages to take the Orb of Silvery Death from the Black Cyst, how does this impact the plans of the Cult (if at all)? What precisely is the Champion of Elemental Evil supposed to do; i.e., is he the only one who can call forth the Princes from their home planes? And can he use either orb to do it?
I know that's a lot of questions, but I've gone 'round and 'round with this and haven't happened on an answer that satisfies me.
Thanks in advance,

Re: The Various and Sundy Orbs
The Orb of Silvery Death is functionally identical to the Orb of Golden Death (destroyed at the conclusion of ToEE). It has a number of useful functions relating to the Elemental Nodes, but (presumably) is a flawed copy of the Orb of Oblivion and can't be used to actually call the Princes.
I do, indeed, believe that only the Champion can use only the OoO to summon the princes. The OoSD is mostly a useful item for the PCs, and a temptation to use an evil item to further their task. The DDs don't truely need the OoSD, except perhaps as a blueprint that they *might* be able to use to recreate the OoO should it be destroyed.

Re: The Various and Sundy Orbs
The Orb of Oblivion can only be destroyed after the Orb of Silvery Death is destroyed. I always thought of the other orbs as early prototypes of the Orb of Oblivion.
Maybe they failed to create the OoO the first 2 times and got the other ones. Maybe they are just security, without them the weilder of the OoO can command it to destroy itself thereby stopping the cult. Maybe they are later attempts at copying the OoO just in case 1 was destroyed. That would explain why you have to destroy the OoSD before the OoO. To get a definate answer there is only one person you could ask and that is Tharizdun (thought I was going to say Monte there didn't you)

Cool... so here's the problem...
The party made it into the Black Cyst and performed the ritual, but didn't find the OoSD because I decided (in my infinite wisdom) that when Lareth came to collect his acoutrements, he collected the OoSD as well. I did that under the erroneous assumption that the cult needed the OoSD to open up the nodes. So here's where I need some advice... where's a good place to stow the OoSD that the party can acquire it, preferably in the Recovered Temple?
Maybe they don't really need it, but it would be nice to see what they do with an artifact like that one once they have it -- particularly since this is an "evil" campaign, and all of the characters have a good reason to take the Orb and run for the hills.
