Here for a while

I think Dunrat can buy the services of some brutes with the money he's got let's say he hires an ogre Ftr4 who is the leader of a band of thugs. The raiders will set up a trap when my PCs leave the moathouse and head for Hommlet. Dunrat paid the monsters well so he will take part in the combat himself. I think about a group of evil monstrous adventurers (using Savage Species at last).
My idea about such a band would be:
Ogre Ftr4, armed with some huge two-handed weapon, feats: Power Attack, Cleave, Power Lunge, Large and in Charge, Weapon Spec.,...
Hobgoblin Clr5, wearing heavy spiked armor, supporting the band with spells. Preferrable domains: War, strength, destruction.
Goblin Rog4: The sneaky guy, carrying a ring that allows him to turn invisible once per day for an hour. He is responsible for the negotiations with Dunrat who has taken up residence in a house Sundabar, belonging to the merchant Rithalor, a contact of the cult (actually I already introduced this guy in the last session).
Kyton 12 (Savage Species): This young Kyton was cast out from devil society because of his repeated failures in his duties. He now roams the Realms in search of easy jobs.
Dunrat hired these mercenaries and promised they could keep all valuables except for the items he desired. When the PCs kill them they will find a contract with the goblin's body pointing to Dunrat and Rithalor. Optionally the PCs could question any survivors but I doubt they will try that approach.
The next step will be some research in Sundabar that will finally lead the PCs to Rithalor's house. There they will face some minor resistance from the guards and the cultists. Rithalor himself will offer the PCs some money (about 1.000 gp) pleading them not to tell anybody about his connections to the cult (and not to kill him on the spot).
I think there will be plenty of opportunities for roleplaying next time.
Thx for your suggestions
