Lareth in Nulb?
How does Lareth survive in Nulb? With 6 Charisma, he's only got one turn per day, and really scary undead wander by every _hour_. Do the undead leave him alone because he's the Champion? Does he know this?

Re: Lareth in Nulb?
Unless your characters ask about it, it's really not a question I'd dwell too long on. Maybe Lareth just keepas out of harm's way. As written, undead can't smell the living a mile off - if he hides in his hovel, the undead won't get him.

My guess...
is that he's pretty careful. And as a 7th level Cleric he should be able to escape most encounters without too much trouble.
Of course, the undead may or may not sense that he is the Champion...

Re: My guess...
The Champion is a very Tharizdun-related concept, and since Big T. does not as written have much to do with undead, I must admit I don't see why the undead of Nulb should have much of a clue.

Re: My guess...
It depends on how your campaign is structured. If Tharizdun is really the great source of all evil, then extremely evil creatures like Undead and fiends may sense his presence. This is purely a roleplaying thing, like when the demons in Buffy sense the coming of The First....
If he needs an explanation it could work. I for one do not plan on providing one for my players (and I doubt they'll ask the question).

Re: My guess...
Well, one connection between undead and Tharizdun are the Elemental Princes. According to various greyhawk histories I've seen on the net, most undead were created by the Princes in retaliation for their imprisonment in the Binders.
Vampires are a notable exception -- they were, in fact, created by Tharizdun, according to what I've read.
Since the Champion has to release the Princes as a precondition of releasing Tharizdun, that could explain why the undead don't harm Lareth.

Re: My guess...
Hah, yeah - didn't know that part of GH history that well. In that case it defintely makes sense that the undead leave Lareth alone.

Vice Versa
Maybe you should be asking, "Why does Lareth leave all the undead alone?" I think Lareth at this point is nearly suicidal. He might be thinking, "Let them come kill me. I don't care anymore." You can say that the undead recognize his power, or some link with Big T, and therefore do not mess with him. IMC, I gave Lareth the Mark of Apostasy (from DotF), which could be readily used to explain this. I did not use the fear ability in combat, however, so it wasn't too bad; I used the Mark more for flavor and RP potential. If you wish, instead of fear, the Mark could grant Lareth invisibility to undead and protection from cold (IMC it is currently the middle of a bad winter, kind of like the eye before a raging firestorm that is Imix).
Edit: slight revision, makes more sense now

IMC
IMC the players asked that very question, they also asked why he didn't leave. I put it that he's being KEPT there, and he doesn't know why. The undead keep him within Nulb, but don't bother him too much as long as he stays within the town.
Keep in mind most players don't know his stats, so they don't know he only has one turn a day. And CHA is force of personality, not nessisarily looks.

hmm
Well.. if he didn't leave.. well.. I wouldn't leave if my former nick name is "beautiful" and turn out to be that I'm insidious. I would never visit Hommlet. Never if I was once the top gun and big man on campus and have so many women all of the sudden lost where my appearance counts for the most.
Nulb have alot of outcasts there, and that is where Lareth the "beautiful" fit in

Re: hmm
DeafDM has it right, IMHO. Lareth had so much, looks, power, the benevolent attention of two gods... And now he's got squat. By a sublime twist of fate, he actually lives in Canonness Y'Dey's old hideout when she was undercover in Nulb, while many make it Y'Dey who bashed in his skull (does it say so in the adventure? I forget...).
There's a thread in the BoB about roleplaying Lareth.

The adventure just says "the mace of a good-aligned cleric [sic--from my memory ]".
Personally, I won't be making this Y'Dey since my history is based on ToEE pretty much as written. There she would have been in Nulb undercover while the original party explored the moathouse. They wouldn't have even known about her or Otis yet, at least if the plot went as linearly as written there, which it did IMC for my ease of mind
