Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil Armor Classes
Do the NPC villains get to stack magical vestment with mage armor?

Re: Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil Armor Classes
That would be impossible.

Mage Armor provides a +4 Armor bonus.

Magic Vestment will improve a suit of armor or a shield (either of which ALSO provide Armor bonuses) by a level-scaled amount.

You can't stack an Armor bonus with an Armor bonus (with the sole exception of a Suit of Armor and a Shield). Thus, Mage Armor won't even stack with an un-enhanced suit of armor or a shield, let alone one improved through Magic Vestment.

"Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

This really has nothing to do with RttToEE. May I suggest you post the question to the D&D Rules forum instead?

Re: Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil Armor Classes
I posted it here becasue I was told that Monte listed several NPCs with BOTH magical vestment and Mage Armor affecting their ACs. My DM is using that as proof that the two spells stack but I do not have a copy with me. I know they don't stack and this is probably not the place to discuss this is general but I was hoping someone with more knowledge or access could enlighten me. Thanks.

Re: Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil Armor Classes
First up, apologies for prolonging a thread which really doesn't belong here. But oddly enough the question was raised by my group following our last session on Saturday. Can't they stack? I thought that magic vestment granted an enhancement bonus to armour, not an armour bonus. And the spell description says you can cast it on ordinary clothes. So they would then become +1 clothes (enhancement bonus) and you could also add mage armour for an armour bonus. Am I missing something?

Quoting the SRD here:

"The character imbues a suit of armor or a shield that the character touches with an enhancement bonus of +1 per three caster levels (maximum +5 at 15th level). An outfit of regular clothing counts as a suit of armor that grants no AC bonus for purposes of this spell."

That would seem to agree with the argument that it's an armor enhancement not an armor bonus, in which case they'd stack, correct?

No. MV makes your armor/clothes magic armor/clothes for a short time. They are still armor/clothes. MA is a magical force that provides an armor bonus. You get the bonus of one or the other (biggest), not both. If you were wearing Padded armor +1 (AC +2) and cast MA, your AC armor bonus is +4, not +6. Same goes for a MV enhanced item.

If we want to debate this more, head over to the Rules or Magic forum and post a new thread :)

I don't want to debate the topic. I simply want to know if tehre is any support for the two stacking in RttToEE. If there is, is it there by accident and has it been covered in any erratta? Monte, a short response from you would end this quickly. Thanks

I've been over the module pretty thoroughly, and I must admit that I haven't run into many who'd even be able to combine the two. Could you give an example, please?
