Sunless Citadel and Forge of Fury leadin
I know there was a thread on this before, but have been unable to find it.

I'm starting my campaign this Friday. I plan to start with the Sunless citadel. While my players are finishing off the Gulthias tree, the orcs from the Forge of Fury raid and burn down Oakhurst (which simplifies things later - one less town the PCs can go to for supplies and info). If that's not enough to get them to track the orcs, or if they lose the tracks, they know that the Hucrele family from the Sunless Citadel adventure were to be staying at their holdings in Verbobonc, working out a trade deal. If they speak to the Hucreles, they'll also be contracted to find the weapons in the Forge of Fury, and given some background information on it.

First off, does anyone see any holes in how I'm planning to weave those together, or have any ideas to supplement it. I figure between revenge (and possibly saving captives from Oakhurst) and the promise of monetary reward, all my PCs should want to go.

My problem is, I don't know how I'm going to get from the Forge of Fury to RttToEE. Any suggestions there would be greatly appreciated. I suppose this could be a place they've recruited temple reinforcements from - but that leads straight to the temple, which is bad, so I don't really want to go that route.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Bad Guy Continuance Hooks
You can replace Utreshimon with Nightscale, if the dragon from Forge of Fury lives. The dragon should easily live, btw, with a very easy escape route and a very difficult encounter (three darknesses per day). You can also have any surviving orcs from the Forge join the hobgoblins at the temple, or replace the hobgoblins at the temple with orcs, or vice versa.

Story Hooks
Perhaps the PC's find out something about a dwarven temple to Moradin, a close relative of the dwarf in Forge (forgot his name), from Mt. Stalagos. Of course, information on Mt. Stalagos is very scarce to come by, though rumor has it that a sage in Hommlet knows something about it. Perhaps, instead of the temple, you can tie in the Saltheart clan and Tulian's eye.

The point here is that it is not necessary to tie in the actual cult or EEE. When the party gets to Hommlet, they will uncover a whole new set of problems. The Sunless Citadel and Forge of Fury are good adventures on their own.

If Belak gets away (as he did IMC, previous group of PC's though same players), he can replace Tarren. I plan on doing so, and using some of the BoVD materials as suggested in this forum. You could go so far as to replace Thrommel with Gulthias, but I wouldn't Thrommel already has a great story line, which is quite different from Gulthias. Also, it would ruin your ability to use Gulthias in the later WotC modules.

Hmm..
Gulthias tree should be replace with Thrommel tree since they are both vampires and give players better ideas whom they are facing!

Berlak the Outcast should be a former associate of Terran.

Goblins are refugee of CRM, causing alot of tensions between Kobolds and Goblins.

I ran these two adventures leading up to RTTTOEE. I've posted my summary here (although it really needs to be updated... I'm way past the Ruined Temple by now). It does cover the campaign starting from the Sunless Citadel, through (part of) FOF, and up to the moathouse of RTTTOEE.

In terms of where it's going (and what the Stone of Years really is), I've gotten some great ideas from the Binders thread.

Hi!
I ran those adventures as well. My tie-in was like this:
What I really missed in FoF was an explanation why the duergar were there. They obviously came from somewhere else, as there are no exits to the underdark (ok, you could place some - I didn't). So I made them a group of smiths who wanted to use the forge to make some real good weapons (after all, all those masterwork weapons and armor in the CRM must come from somewhere). To that end I placed a letter from Oamarthis (the only duergar in RttToEE) in the belongings of the duergar leader in FoF hinting on "needed weapons for the cultists". The meeting point for delivery was to be "somewhere near Homlett" - actually I thought of the wagon that comes to collect the artifacts. Maybe this sounds a little bit constructed, but my players really jumped on this mysterious letter, because they thought there was a greater scheme behind the duergar activity. Once they reach Homlett there are so many things to hit your players with, it should be no problem to keep them going.

Druegar supplying cultist weapons
I must say, I really like that idea. It ties in easily, requires virtually no changes, and is sure to get the party to Hommlet...

Thanks,
