Ballad of Emridy Meadows !
Hi there, I donīt know if this is of interest but I wrote the 'Ballad of Emridy Meadows' for Redithidor to sing in my campaign. Please donīt pick on me for possible discrepancies with true history or geography (as there surely will be some). I donīt know enough of it to prevent such mistakes. But I wanted to revive the past in some way, nonetheless. And tickle my players (and it worked). So here it comes:

The Ballad of Emridy Meadows

Harken now to my words of sadness
learn about the downfall of madness
How the sacrifice of one was a boon
for the land of the crowns and the crescent moon
In the days of Emridy meadows

An evil and fearsome power arose
In a house of worship, now avoided by most
It corrupted poor souls, deceiving them all
Intending to bring Furyondy to fall
In the days of Emridy Meadows

Refrain:
Furyondy, pearl of the heartland realms
shining jewel of the north
changed your face forevermore
when your prince was to sally forth

Lured to the new god by promise and lies
Many sold their faith, never knowing the price
Held fast in the grasp of insanity
they started a war that should not be
On the fields of Emridy Meadows

While battle raged the darkness grew
Like a chill of winter the northern winds blew,
And the souls of the brave and the hearts of the fair
Soon were filled with doom and despair
On the fields of Emridy Meadows

Refrain:
...

Down came the prince with the valiant heart
His sword split the night cutting deep through the dark
He fought like a titan, an angel of light
And single-handedly turned the tide
That night at Emridy Meadows

Then the morning mists faded and the light of the sun
heralded a peaceful time to come
Still the victory was bitter-sweet
Cause the prince disappeared soon after his deed
That night at Emridy Meadows

Refrain:
...

Oh, Thrommel my lord, what happened that day
Did you abandon us or drown in the fray
Now the nights are long and the days are cold
And people still missing their prince of old
Since the days of Emridy Meadows

Refrain:
...

Cheers

:eek

Absolutely awesome!

10/10!

Me thinks this is one for the BotB!

I hope you don’t mind if I use it in next week’s session…

I can't see anything that is incorrect, and since no one really knows what happened, anything could be true.

I really don't know what to say... you've a talent, and thanks.

Belial.

Very good! :D

I shall also use it, but it's too good to let a hack like Redithidoor sing it. ;) Maybe my party will find it scribed on an old parchment out in the field, where a lone adventuring bard wrote it, amidst a rain of tears, only to die of grief...

Its very nice, maybe a bit heavy on the 'madness' and 'insanity' clues.

Any suggestions for music to set it to?

Definately BoB material, though.

Along with a few others I will be using this in my next game.

I have a bard in the group, so hes always looking for other bards to compare notes with. I think I'll have me meet someone in Verbobonc that is doing this little tune. :smokin

Thanks Again

I'm not big on "Me Too's" but this definately deserved one.

Awesome!!! I like all the references to darkness, evil, and insanity. Makes Thrommel look that much better. Also, this fits with Greyhawk canon (which I use) in which Thrommel did disappear soon after the battle (about 2 years, IIRC).

Thanks for all the great response. Glad you people like it, and of course, I donīt mind anyone using it ... thatīs what itīs for, after all.
Though I donīt have an idea for a fitting music, Andorax. Sorry. I am not much of a musician ... :( .

Oh, and I think you wonīt have to worry about hinting too much about madness. Look at it through the eyes of your players. They donīt know what we know ... not yet, anyway. ;)

Nice work, I BoB'd it.

If anyone has a suggestion for a song to set it to, drop a line here and I can edit that in.

-Thrommel, who's wondering what the b-side to this hit single is... probably something by Black Sabbath.

Excellent! I think I'll make a hand-out for players to find... They haven't met Thrommel yet... :evil

I had a bard in Verbobonc give a copy of it to the bard in my group after he heard some of the songs he had done about their adventures in Hommlet and the temple.

Nice, I like it very much, although I too am trying to figure out how it fits with Greyhawk canon - doesn't the final verse imply that Thrommel fell/disappeared at the Battle of Emridy Meadows rather than soon after?

Re: Very nice
Hmm, I think you talk about the second last verse, right ? Not the final one ?!?!
Anyway, why donīt you just grant it some poetic license. Not everything DOES have to be correct.
Bards and poets often add or cut details just for the sake of the story and to smoothen up things.

Other than that I can only say that, unfortunately enough, I donīt know much about Greyhawk. I also would say, if it doesnīt fit your cause, make it fit ... only that I tried myself and itīs difficult without having to change more than that part. And making a connection between the prince and the battle after long years isnīt that easy, either. Another point why I put it at the end of the battle.

And lastly, I know itīs only been 25 years, but what about this: History became legend, legend became myth. And some things that should not have been forgotten ... were lost ! ;)

Re: Very nice
We should find a good place to place this gem... I don't think that Redithidor should know it, but perhaps it could be found or recited to if the proper quesitons asked. I could see Burne or Rufus pulling out a dusty book with it in it if the party has a bard, or it being found in some tome with the history in in... like the one the Cleric has near the Air Temple or with the history found at the fire door.... Can't remember the room numbers for these...
