Brand new DM: Question about scent and hover
The group I game with decided they wanted to start something new, so I offered to try DM'ing if I had a pre-built world and story to ease into the position of DM. That led us to RttToEE. Well we had our first session last week, and after Big U managed to tear the group a new one, (4 of the 6 party members were flirting with 0 hp before he went down to the readied melfs and sound burst) I realized that the paladin's warhorse had scent. In the rules for scent is states that it can correctly identify where something is if it is within 5 ft, but I was wondering how the heavily gusting winds would affect it. Even still, for some reason the horse was pretty much the only one getting through the miss chance, and rather amusingly the paladin couldnt hit jack(until the final crit that allowed the casters to drop him when the hover fell). And for anyone intrested, here is a list of the characters: (Sorry, dont have their names with me)
Dwarf Wiz4
Dwarf Ftr1/Rog3
Grey Elf Clr4
Human Pal 4 with Heavy Warhorse
Human Ranger4
Elf Bbn1/Ftr1/Rog2
Thanks, Ansel

Re: Brand new DM: Question about scent and hover
Welcome aboard! I'd say you made the right call. I know that usually special abilities don't take the environment into account, but trying to smell someone in a windstorm? No way.

Re: Brand new DM: Question about scent and hover
I agree, scent has some remarks about the effects of wind, so you made a good call.
And it is great to see another new DM!
