Ghosts (Wat) and See Invis ?!
My players will encounter Wat very sson and I am preparing for it very accurately since I kind of like Wat :) . Now I thought about what will happen if someone uses 'See Invisibility' or 'True Seeing' or some such. Will a player doing that be affected by a ghosts 'Horrific Appearance' ability ?
I would say 'yes' since the player sees it just like it would have manifested, doesn´t he ?
And that would be a pretty nice backlash for any diviner :evil !

Re: Ghosts (Wat) and See Invis ?!
Actually, a ghost does not have a horrific appearance all the time. It is a power they have to activate as a standard action. I always envision one of the first scenes of Ghostbusters, where the ghost of the old lady in the library suddenly changes in some horrible monster when the hunters jump it.

... someone has to be wrong here ...
... I got a whole other-saying answer from Grumgarr in my thread about Wat´s equipment ...

QUOTE Kyle:

"I thought it would work automatically for any being that sees him manifested. Or is it an action for him to use this ability ?"

END QUOTE Kyle

QUOTE Grumgarr:

"Once he manifests, anyone who sees him and is within the range of his horrific appearance is affected, ..."

END QUOTE Grumgarr

... so that is why I started this thread !!!! Could anyone clarify this confusion ??

Re: ... someone has to be wrong here ...
My bad for not taking a look at the SRD and hence misremembering the actualy ability. I was mixing it up with corrupting gaze :rolleyes

Quote:
Horrific Appearance (Su): Any living creature within 60 feet that views the ghost must succeed at a Fortitude save or immediately suffer 1d4 points of permanent Strength, 1d4 points of permanent Dexterity, and 1d4 points of permanent Constitution drain. A creature that successfully saves against this effect cannot be affected by the same ghost’s horrific appearance for one day.

So it appears that anybody seeing the ghost within 60 ft. is affected. Somebody seeing it on the ethereal plane is just as much affected as somebody seeing on the material plane. To be honest, I like the sudden change more ;)
