Quick Tharizdun Question
If the character did not go through the original Temple of Elemental Evil, would he have any chance of knowing which god consecrated the Temple before obtaining a holy symbol? Or is Tharizdun common knowledge?

Re: Quick Tharizdun Question
There is no mention of Tharizidun at any point in the original adventure. It was all Zuggtmoy and a little Iuz. Tharizidun is a completely new twist. I know that's not your question really, but I thought I should point it out.
So, to answer, probably not. I don't think anyone would know of him until they find a holy symbol, and then only if they have a religion skill. It seems to be one of those gods no one really knows about except for people with a broad knowledge of religion.

Thanks! That's exactly how I am handling it in my campaign.

Re: Quick Tharizdun Question
The cleric in my campaign took the holy symbol of Tharizdun back to a Temple and had High priest take a look at it. With that I let him know who it was a symbol for.

Re: Quick Tharizdun Question
One point though... there is the inscription above the throne of the temple itself which was there in the original ToEE which reads:
The power of elemental death
Brings mortals low
But raises the Nameless One High
To me, this obscure passage reeks of Tharizdun! Maybe it was Monte's inspiration for bringing Big T into the picture for the RttToEE? Who knows?

Re: Quick Tharizdun Question
I consider Tharizdun to be basically the inspiration for Ghaunadaur and the Elder Elemental God. They are detailed in the 2nd edition books Drow and the Underdark and the Moster's Mythology. Very good writeups there though, in 2nd edition.
