Killiak's Campaign log
Okey, I had a previous topic, but our bard is a bit slow and now also a bit dead, so I will post the logs of the cleric Seward instead. Maybe he will live a bit longer ;)

Any notes in italic are DM's notes :D enjoy!

The cast;
-Seward Stoker, NG Human Cleric 4
-Johan, N Human Fighter 2/Ranger 1/Rogue 1
-Farish, CG Halfling Bard 4
-Georg, N Human Fighter 3/Barbarian 1
-Scim, N Dwarf Cleric 4
-Tearanes, CG Druid 2/Sorcerer 2

Seward Stoker:

Me and my not so glorious companions have been together for a while now. Some time ago Farish brought news of and old temple of evil, which seemed to have come to life again. So we went to Hommlet, a small town southeast of Verbobonc.
We went to the local Inn, the "Welcome Wench" where from the local bard, Redithidoor Halfmoon, who was a misery compared to Farish, we learned that 25 years ago the temple of elemental evil had been build. After a few years of raids from the temple, the locals and a few adventurers had destroyed the temple and imprisoned the demon within. Later on, bandits had use the temple as their base of operations. They have also been removed by the authorities. ... So, that was the past, now to the future .... Lately there have been problems with bandits raiding trade caravans. We also met Chatrilon Unosh, a dark clothed arrogant fellow who could not hide his intention to keep us away from the Moathouse.

In the Inn we also met Elmo, the Captain of the Guard, who sat at a table with Rufus and Burne, who seemed very quiet. From them the group learned that between Hommlet and the old temple, there is a ghost-town named Nulb, with all kinds of undead. Closer to the town is "The Moathouse", a destroyed outpost of the temple.

When the others went for walks an to the other bar in town, I used the occasion to properly introduce myself to the good Captain and obtain some extra information. He was willing to tell me quite some more. There have been sightings of hobgoblins in the temple. How they got there he doesn't know. They also come towards town sometimes. Usually this means travelling through Nulb but the hobgoblins use an old road through the forest. This road is guarded by a creature or several creatures with enormous tentacles.
(This is my Pseudonatural Shambling Mound idea :evil )
The Captain has lost quite a few good men to these creatures. How the hobgoblins get past the creatures he doesn't know. About the undead in Nulb he could tell that they kept returning. They had destroyed them all a few times, but even then the ghost-town would slowly repopulate with undead. There seemed to be some evil aura in the town and near the temple. Since the undead did not come to Hommlet there had been no need to destroy them again.

In the mean time the others had been in a barfight in the one other bar in town, "Terrigan's", how low can you go ?

Redithidoor asked if he could accompany us for a while, learning how to perform better and get some experience worth of telling about. Ferish didn't mind so he goes along.

After a good night of sleep, our Druid "Tearanes" found a note near his bed telling him not to go to the Moathouse because "certain doom will befall you and your comrades". On the note there was a symbol of a triangle with a "Y" inside. I know I've read or heard about this symbol before but can't remember it ... grrr. This was ofcourse another reason to find out what was so special about the place.

On our way to the Moathouse we met Yundi, the apprentice of an older druid, Jaroo. We had heard earlier that Jaroo had gone mad and lost his bear companion. We didn't learn much of these two.

Further on our way Tearanes found a trap near the road, and destroyed it. When that happened, and old man who introduced himself as "Ol' Del" came walking towards us. He seems to be a trapper. Tearanes wasn't really happy with this. When we said we were going to the Moathouse he said he had seen a dragon there. He could not remember how big it was or what colour, but firmly advised us not to go there. He seemed a bit demented but still smart enough to make a living as a trapper.

When we came to the famous Moathouse, we found it to be a broken down small castle. Several parts of the outer wall had been destroyed. Part of the small bridge had been renewed. When Tearanes tried to cross the bridge, he was attacked by a huge frog. After some heavy hits from us, the frog tried to get away but was beaten down by Georg and me.

After healing our druid, we went into the Moathouse. When we examined the courtyard, a blue dragon came out of the hallway. He attacked us immediately with his lightning breathweapon, nearly killing three of us. After that he used his wings to swing up all the dust in the place so we couldn't see anything. I yelled "retreat" and headed for the gate. When the dust settled down everyone but Georg was outside and the dragon was biting down on him. I hit him square in the chest with a crossbow bolt and Johan peppered him with arrows. When the dragon flew after us we met him in melee but quickly decided to run. He couldn't follow through the trees so we set up camp.

After the loss of Georg we had to come up with a good plan but with Tearanes druidic spells and Scrim's and my own clerical spells we would be able to protect everyone from the a bit of the dragon's lightning. In the early morning we were attacked by a huge insect-like creature, but luckily he only hurt me. A halfling came walking to the camp right after the attack. He said he was "Joe" and had been following the insect for quite a while. Since he didn't object to fighting a dragon, he went along ... he doesn't seem the smart one.
(This was Georg's player's new character)

The tactic was that Johan, Joe and Redithidoor would wait by the gates and come in when the battle started with their bows. The rest of us circled the Moathouse and went in from the back. Through a dark chamber we came to a great hall, where the dragon was just waking up. Because we spread out a bit he could hurt many of us with his breathweapon and we were able to kill him. He almost killed Tearanes but he was saved from certain death by Johan and his healing wand.

We searched this level of the Moathouse and the upper level. We found some usefull stuff and some more bodies. The dragon had eaten poor Georg but most of his equipment was ok. An Ooze was quickly destroyed and we found some more of the triangle "Y" symbols. I know remember what they are from. It's the "Elder Elemental Eye", a religious symbol of an evil elemental cult. It is really the symbol of Tharizdun, a dark god. There are stairs leading down, but we will see what is there tomorrow, now is the time for some healing and resting.

Seward Stoker:
After the battle and the searching, we went to sleep in one of the rooms. Johan locked it so we could sleep quite safe.

Day 4
All went well and the next morning we went down into the cellar. As we went down the stairs and into the room below, a group of skeletons came charging towards us. With Azor'alq's blessing I turned most of them to dust before they could really harm us. The rest was quickly destroyed. With his excellent vision in the dark, Scim saw a woman running away.

Most had a look at where she went. I checked the doors in the first room and heard a shuffling behind the northern one. I called them back and when Johan opened the door I stepped in. There was a lot of junk, just as I had seen in the other room, but with my Detect Magic still functioning a saw a few aura's under it. A small man waving a wand came out from under it. I tried to disarm him from it, but he must have been extremely lucky .... since he didn't attack we listened to wat he said. With Azor'alq's sight I saw that he was good man, after which I also lowered my weapon and we had a short talk. His name is "Spugnoir" and he is Hommlet's potion builder. He says he has quite some spell abilities but this was not taken serious because of his hiding in the junk. He told us a few things about the dungeon, which was quite big. He had encountered gnolls earlier, and told us about a secret passage. We set him free and on his way back to Hommlet. Maybe later he can help us.

In the next hall we found some cells with bodies and an empty torture chamber. Behind the secret door we found a second set of stairs leading up to one of the upper rooms as well as a passage leading on. Following this we came to a room with three doors and a north passage. As soon as we walked in, all hell broke loose. A group of gnolls with bows became visible while they shot at us and another came running from the north passage. Before we could react, several of us were already severely hurt. We began to fight this battle because you don't just give up. The group of gnolls from the north was joined by a human and a troglodyte cleric from the same evil deity. The battle went bad. The haughty idiot (Chatrilon) from the Inn turned out to have followed us and also became visible while he attacked Scim. After trying to fight off four gnolls, I went down.

I was told Scim went down not much later. Redithidoor had tried to heal me but was killed during that herioc action. Tearanes was also killed, holding out an awfully long time between two camps. Yes two camps, because while I was out, a group of ghouls and ghasts had come into the room, battling against the gnolls. They had been driven here by a cleric, that stood near to me when I woke up again. I didn't see anyone doing it, but later Johan told me he had healed me while invisible. When things went bad, Joe had turned himself, and later Johan too, invisible.

Geynor Ton lead the Ghast and Ghouls towards the battle scene (room 27), where he saw Ysllansh andthe gnolls having a bad time, so he decided this was his chance to get rid of Yslanssh and assume a position of power. So he ordered the ghouls to attack the gnolls (saving the party by the way)

When I was up again there were just two undead with the cleric and two gnolls with the troglodyte left. After healing myself and Farish, things looked bad because I didn't see anyone else from our group alive. At least the undead had been destroyed by the gnolls. I disarmed the cleric, after which Johan became visible again, firing arrows 'near' him. Farish killed him with his touch magic. Joe also became visible again, firing magic at the troglodyte. He was hit heavy and went down. I disarmed another gnoll that ran away with a bow. The trog and gnoll with the bow went down. The last gnoll killed a helpless Joe with his last breath. He will be revenged !!!

Another friend and two companion died in battle today. Not a good day for the cause, not good at all.

Seward Stoker:

Day 4 continued
We were really beat down by the slaughter of our comrades so didn't have the energy to go exploring any further. We opened the other doors in this room to find two men, a halfling and a human hanging in chains, tortured near death. We brought them along to a room we decided to sleep in. Later that night they awoke.

Day 5
That morning they told their story. They are Joe Dalton the Third and Max...., who were in the Moathouse to rescue Spugnoir, the wizard we found without his spellbook. They were happy he was save and the dragon was dead. They were even more happy when we told them about the Gnoll and the Female Cleric we killed. They really wanted to fight whatever is left in the Moathouse, to regain some of their dignity. They couldn't hide they fact that they were deeply hurt. When I told them some things about the Moathouse and mentioned the name of Tharizdun, the Moathouse started to rumble like an earthquake and a creeping cold washed through us. When I opened the door to go out again, a message was written in highly magical words in the air before us ... "YOU ABANDONED ME!"... It is obviously some message from the god himself, no normal caster can make such a message.

(The new Redithidoor, Ghast Bard 2, was left behind after being gruesomely killed. I figured he was susceptible tothe Dark Lord's whispers ;) )

When we went back to the rooms where we were attacked, to get some of Max's stuff that was left behind, we were attacked by Redithidoor, with his head attacked back on. He had turned into a Ghast. He had also dropped a portcullis right on Scim, who was pinned underneath. Johan, Farish and Max were paralyzed by the foul creature. There is some other foul magic in the Moathouse that resists my turning attempts, so I had to use a healing spell to destroy the creature that once was Redithidoor. It also whispered "You abandoned me" before it stopped moving. Some ten minutes later, the ones who were paralysed awoke again. We had gotten Scim out from under the portcullis by using winches in the room Redithidoor came from. To make sure the others we killed and our own dead wouldn't rise again, we burned them all on a big fire. In another part of the Moathouse we found the living quarters of the Gnolls and the Clerics, with a diary belonging to Geynor Ton, a very disturbing work with mentioning of Joe/Max's torture and other cruelties. We found two ways lower into the dungeon. A stairs leading down to a large room with a contraption used to descend down a deep shaft and a series of smelly caverns dug out by clawed creatures (according to Scim). The room leading to the caverns was filled with coffins and had an unholy aura about it.

Day 6
We slept in the clerics rooms and decided to go down the shaft with the contraption. When we got up we heard sounds of a group of humans and elves coming our way. When we saw them, the wore the same ocre cloaks with symbols of the Elder Elemental Eye as we've seen so often before. There were four humans, four elves, and a bugbear holding a cage. Early in the combat a Grick jumped out of that cage, a horrible snake/octopus-like creature. The combat was heavy and took a lot of effort, but we won and everybody got out alive. We heard someone running away, so Max send his little "robot" after it.
(A magicker's familiar is a tiny, upgradable construct. The person running away was Vacra. She had met up with the wagon and were now moving in the moathouse. They had found the bodies and were on alert. She casted invis. and ran away at the end without helping.)

It is quite a handy machine, even though I don't understand how it works. It followed the sound of footsteps quite a distance towards Hommlet. Scim and I had to use all of our healing to get people up again so we decided to rest another day in the clerics quarters. We found one of the elves carrying a note from the "Triad" telling them to "Go to the Moathouse and get the Artefacts".

Day 7
Healed to satisfaction again, we went to the contraption leading down the shaft. Max let his "robot" descend down the shaft, after Scim had cast a light on it. When it was about 75 ft down, near another platform, it was attacked by a tentacle/brain-creature. We shot it a few times and then Farish jumped down the shaft. He cast one of his sonic damage spells on the way down, singing himself to power. He fell right on the creature, probably killing it. We didn't see it moving again. What we did see was that the creature was actually flying in the air next to the platform, so Farish and the creature fell further down to a distance of about 250 ft from us. We heard a crash echoing up but nothing after that. I do not have any illusions about Farish surviving that fall, but we have to get down to get his remains out. I don't want him to turn into any undead monster, he was to good a man for a fate like that.

I think -35 counts as a serious bloodstain :D

I'm thinking that he could have landed in the pool of corruption and turned into a Ghast as well, though that would be terror on the party. He would be 8 HD then and since he is a Monte Bard, his touch attacks (move equivalents) would be terror on the party!

As for the rest of the story; Gren and Garrik were a couple IMC and I looked into the BoVD for some nastiness. They had their "way" with Max and Joe, now freed by the party. It isn't mentioned FULLY in the log, but it wasn't pretty :evil

Seward Stoker:

Day 7 continued
After getting over the horror of Farish's demise, we went down the shaft ourselves, using the lift. About halfway, we came to the top of a large pillar. It was perfectly flat and made of some weird kind of stone with purple strands woven in. When we crossed it to the other lift, the strands became tentacles, but we were able to dodge those. Further down a cleric of Little Rabbit came flying alongside the platform, and started hacking at the ropes holding it. (my players have been calling Tharizdun by the name of Little Rabbit, since they got nasty surprises the last times they said Tharizdun in the moathouse :evil .) Scim used a flying spell to keep us from falling, while Joe and me attacked it with spells. We slowly flew down and landed way below. It was extremely cold there, but I was already protected from the cold and Scim is just a tough dwarf, Joe was the only one bothered by the cold. The cleric landed right after us, but we killed it quickly. He had a note with him saying: The Water Temple will soon make its move against the forces of Fire. Return quickly, Festrath, for we need your aid. Together, we shall win the favor of the doomdreamers and the Triad itself.

At the base, the rock pillar was very sharply tipped, and resting on another cylindrical pillar, with lots of help from magic. There was a space between the two pillars with nothing but air, but it radiated all kinds of magic. In the floor or the room there were two huge symbols. One of an "Obex", which I recognized as a symbol of Little Rabbit. The other one was of a Black Sun, a symbol of utter evil, the perversion of Azor'alq's most holy symbol, the Golden Sun which I proudly wear around my neck. We decided not to tread on any of these symbols.

The water from above was slowly pouring down in a small pool in the north of the chamber. Through some cracks in the wall it seeped away again. In the east there was an arc against the wall with all kinds of symbols. Joe translated a few of these. The back of the arc was against a black wall. Joe found no traps but when he touched the wall, a Grell came through the wall. We were able to kill it, but that was pretty difficult. After healing up again he touched it again, because we wanted to find out if it was some kind of portal you could walk through. But from this side it is impossible to pass and another Grell came out. Scim and me were paralysed for a short while but we were able to kill it anyway. Because we had used up most of our spells we decided to go back up and rest. Halflings and curiosity make for fun battles

Day 8
Here is where I introduced the new character, a Half-Orc looking for stuff to kill ;)
Early in the morning we met a Half-Orc that doesn't seem to smart. He is here just for the bashing of monsters it seems, no noble motives on his mind. We can use a barrier like that in front of us, and he seemed happy to fight against evil clerics and monsters, so we allow him to stay with us for a while. We went down again to take a closer look at the two pillars. The Half-Orc, "Gralsch" walked around while we examined the magic. He suddenly fell knockout while walking on the black sun symbol. With help from a magical torch we were able to see that there was a gem wedged between the two pillars. We decided to take the gem out, hoping the whole pillar would fall down and destroy a big part of the symbols below.

Day 9
Gralsch was back with us again, we restored some of the mental damage done to him. Scim flew down again to get the gem. A little while after, he suddenly appeared again, right next to us. He told us that he had tried to hit the gem but hadn't been able to get it out. He had then tried to grab it, but was teleported to an utterly black room. A dark and booming voice said: Seek the heart of each of the four moons. Together they can sunder the walls of my prison. For now, eat of my fruit and be blessed.

A black apple then appeared in his hand. Not sure what to think of this all, Scim had waited a little while, and was suddenly with us again. Eating a black magic apple didn't seem like such a good idea to us, so we decided to keep it until we could be sure that at the least it wasn't anything evil. But Gralsch kind of ruined this. He kept nagging about fresh fruit and wanting to eat it, so when he and I hauled the plug in place to cover the well, Joe destroyed it. The fruit turned brown and old instantly and then completely vapored into nothingness. I marked this character as a Heretic now, only visible by Tharizdun worshippers. Natural born target :D

The only things left to examine in this complex are the caves and the nonnatural wall, so we went to the caves. After a lot of turns, twists and dead ends we came to a cavern that was cut out of the rocks at odd angles. There was a large four-sided column, much like the one in the well room, but much bigger. There was also an altar of black rock. Joe found some secret parts in the column, which Gralsch took out. They contained all kinds of clerical magical stuff. I tried hitting the black altar, but all that did was turn it to some kind of gem with a moving mass in the middle. When Gralsch struck it after that he was paralysed for a few hours. We decided to leave this chamber alone, we can't destroy any of it.

We'll search the odd stoneshaped wall on the other side of the complex tomorrow. Now we just have to think about what we'll do after that. We think that the ToEE is split up in four parts of four different elements, and that artifacts or something else from the four parts is needed to free little rabbit. That can't happen ofcourse, so we have to destroy at least one of these "heart of the moon".
The heart of the moon are the binders/princes/nodes, which they have no clue of where they are. Most likely they will go to kick the @#%$ out of the Homlett cultists first, but Jaroo has his eye on them. I feel a frame coming on! :evil

and the guy who played Tearanes was playing with his new char, but I don't have my papers here. Ranger Rogue I belive

Day 10
Scim removed the wall and we found a few rooms and a pathway to the forest behind it. During a battle with a few large chickens Johan shot Gralsch, after which Gralsch nearly killed him. Back in the forest we met a man that had just caught a rabbit. He seems a good fellow, which my magic detected. We ate together and he went with us to Hommlet.

In the Inn I spotted Elmo, so went to sit with him to tell him about our findings. After just two sentences he stood up and walked away without a word, very rude. I'm not surprised anymore about all the bad stuff happening around here, I guess the leaders are just incompetent. We later went to Spugnoir, to have all our stuff identified.

Day 11
We spend most of the day selling all the stuff we found and buying a few new things. I got some scrolls from the temple of Pelor. There they were pretty interested in the stories, so at least someone here cares. In the afternoon we got our stuff back from Spugnoir. Elmo didn't show his face in the Inn all day.

Day 12
When we woke up, we found out we were robbed. Not only of a lot of money, but also of all the religious stuff from the Moathouse. We found a few tracks outside, leading out of town but nothing more. Robbed in an Inn in the middle of town. Once again pointing towards the incompetence of the local government. A gnome told us he saw a man in ocre robes going towards the old road. I don't trust the little creature, walking around in the middle of the night.

Because of a passage from Geynor's Journal we went to the Mill, where we found some men at work. The miller has been gone for quite some time, they didn't know where or why. In the cellar we found the remains of a few beds and a little note to Master Dunrat telling him to uncover the ancient shrine in the Moathouse, uncover the treasures, seal the shrine and bring the objects to the Temple of All-Consumption. It also said that a wagon can be obtained from Tal Chamnish in the village of Rastor and that what he could find should be taken to the crater. It was signed with "Naquent". A small gem triggered a huge explosion, setting the whole mill on fire.

We hurried outside and tried to help a little, but there the mill couldn't be saved. When the mill was burned out, the town guard came running and wanted to arrest us ... US ... they really don't get it. But we went along with them to the castle. There Rufus demanded that we told him everything we knew. I politely pointed him to the fact that it was a little late for that now since I could have told him everything two days ago if Elmo had acted normal. But after that we told him about the Moathouse and the note in the Journal leading us to the Mill. They were surprised by everything we told them and didn't know anything at all that we didn't already knew ourselves. They wanted us to find out what is happening at the temple, but wouldn't talk about a reward, because we had to prove ourselves first. Like killing a dragon, lots of undead and several evil priests isn't enough. It sure wasn't enough to get even the least respect from them. They are incapable of solving the problems they are faced with, but to proud or stupid to ask for help or unable to spot it when it's being offered. As far as I am concerned we have nothing to do with them anymore. We are doing this for the good of the people and to fight against this evil.

We left and went for the Moathouse first, to see whether the stolen stuff has been brought there. It wasn't, but we saw new wagon tracks and the bridge had been restored. The huge stones with the four priests had been removed from the temple by magic. We decided to go to the temple first and to Nulb later.

Day 13
A day long march towards the forest

Day 14
After walking for a few hours we were attacked by a monster with lots of tentacles. It was a tough and long battle, but we killed it eventually.

DM Notes;
Suffice to say that the town leadership was pretty shocked and pissed off that they had missed the signs. Actually they weren't that impressed by the exploits of our heroes, but did ask for them to check it out for them. The PC's all went; REWARD, REWARD........ So what do ya do as Y'dey? U tell them to bring more info first and then we can talk hazard pay. Well, the party is comprised of experienced players and that's a problem when dealing with NPC's. Oh well, they won't get a base and free healing then :D . Maybe they will get one in Rastor, where the stew is delicious :evil
An advice to all DM's; have Dunrat flee (without his letter) when he get's word from the moathouse demise and let a silenced, invisible Vacra steal the relics back. Get's the PC's mighty mad :D

Oh, I so wanted to do this. The party left the loaded wagon in the Inn stables and I was already to have the entire (undiscovered) cult kill the one Badger guarding it and run off with the loot. Then, during a meeting with town leaders that night, they decide after a really full day of fighting a the moathouse to "visit the miller and scare some info out of him" before bedding down for the night. Oh man. Only Vacra survived and without her spellbook. She cared squat for the relics after that and was captured trying to get it back. sigh...

Glad to see someone pulled it off nicely :)

Re: double post
The point was that I let Vacra meet up with the wagon and then guide them to the moathouse unseen. She escaped from the moathouse invisible and the party stayed in the moathouse for a whilre. Dunrat & Co. set up the stalwart eye at the moathouse and camped in the woods. I gave my players a couple of spot and wilderness lore checks to notice the wagoin trails leading into the woods, but they botched them.
Dunrat & Co. then took whatever was left in the moathouse and then stayed at Nierethi's house (the evil gnome). Vacra got the keys from Maridosen, was Silenced by Dunrat at night and then stole the relics. Nierethi pointed them (with major image => saves failed AGAIN) in the wrong direction, but they got the clue after finding Dunrat's letter in the mill, along with a Gyph of Warding (fire!). MWuahaha! :evil

It's all about foresight and some DM meta-gaming now and then ;) I just figured that Dunrat is leading this operation; he may be mad, but he will always have an operative overseeing the operation.
And by the way; Vacra's spellbook? She is a Sorcerer!

Nice plan, Killiak.

"And by the way; Vacra's spellbook? She is a Sorcerer!"
This must be a change in your campaign then? She's a Wiz3 per the module.

Some additions ...
By Seward:

Day 15

While I went back to town for reasons of my own, the rest went on to Nulb to check it out. They encountered some shadows that drained them severely.

Day 16

In the early morning they met an evil cleric. He “healed” Gralsch, but cursed him at the same time with an unholy scar. They walked through Nulb a bit and decided to rest more and attack the evil cleric at night.

By Astrianne (new addition, elven druid):

Day 16 continued

Well, what do you know..I was just roaming around a bit, thinking about what I could do about this foul undead influence on this lovely forest, when Linaewë and Sulimo started pulling my hair. Usually a signal that they want to show me something, so off I went. To my surprise I found a strange bunch of adventurers that were busying themselves with making camp. One of them told me they were going back to this Undead City to get rid of some more unnatural things. And there was an evil hermit too, who chased them away. I wonder how one man could succeed at making this entire group go away just like that...I think I will go along and see for myself.

Day 17

During the night we got visitors. Four highway robbers tried to surprise us in our sleep, but they got very unlucky. We killed the three men and took the woman, Aria, along because she had nowhere else to go.
When we got to the City we saw some strange dark creature fly away, I think it is called a wraith. Suddenly we were under attack by four shadows. The halforc killed two of them ( as was to be expected from someone with such brute force...) and I got one too. The dwarf took care of the last of them. So far so good. Then the hermit these guys told me about came walking up calmly to us and told us to leave. Since the argument was getting nowhere and I still needed to try and fix the bad influence this place and its inhabitants had on the surroundings I decided to speed things up a little and I conjured up some flames to throw around. Then this hermit started to cast something and after that everything is just a haze. From what the others told me afterwards this was what he did to them the first time. Apparently I was confused and started to attack Max and Johan instead of the hermit. And someone killed Aria too. Anyway, we killed the hermit but we lost the dwarf doing so. Now I don't care much for dwarves, but this particular one was of good use to the party...too bad. After stripping the bodies from their belongings, we found a symbol of Evil on the hermits chest and decided to burn him.
We were walking back when someone noticed a vague magical aura in the tavern. We outran some shadows and went back to camp. The tavern is for tomorrow.
While we were in the camp, taking care of our wounds, we were attacked by a flying dog. That was a short fight, thanks to Max, who shot it in half with his "holepuncher". This guy uses really strange machinery, very unnatural stuff if you ask me. I don't like it much, but it works. In the evening we were under attack again, this time by a big ape. I tried to calm it, but it didn't work. It almost killed me! The half orc killed it I think. After healing ourselves again we went to sleep.

Day 18

On our way to the tavern in the Undead City, we were caught up by this human in shining armor, who wanted to help us get rid of the evil things around here. Well, the more help we can get, the better.
Inside the tavern it was very cold around the bar area, but we couldn't find anything unusual otherwise. Suddenly we were attacked by a ghost who kept disappearing. Just the sight of it weakened Johan and Max a lot. It tried to kill me, but it didn't succeed. Unfortunately Max was less lucky...
Barion, our latest addition, took Max' body outside. I went outside too but went in again later, because it was taking too long for the others to get out. I even dealt the final blow! That should teach it, trying to kill me like that. By Obad-Hai these foul beings make me sick! We burnt down the tavern to stop the ghost from reappearing as well.
Next thing to do is to find someone who is powerful enough to undo the damage all these undead have caused some of us.

Re: Some additions ...
By Seward:

Day 18

When I arrived at the camp spot outside Nulb I saw the groups horses grazing and the spot showing evidence of recent campfire. When I went into Nulb they came walking towards me from town. They were looking pretty miserable, dragging Max' body after them. He was not the only death, Scim was also taken from this world. They left his body in Nulb, but we have to get him quickly.

I am glad of finding a companion in the ways of righteousness in the new addition to our group. A battle-ready aasimar called Barion who follows the teachings of Al'Akbar. A bit to much on the defending and mercifull side, but a welcome addition nontheless. I also briefly met Astrianna Stormwhisper, an elven druid who might be a well-motivated ally in our fight against the temple.

When we tried to retrieve Scims remains we were attacked by four shadows. I quickly destroyed two of them, but was only able to drive the others away after a while. In the mean time Johan and Barion had been severely drained by these foul creatures. I myself got a decent hit too. With a lot of dragging we got the body of Scim and ourselves back to camp.

Day 19

After sleeping and a lot of blessings from Azor'alq, we dug graves for Scim and Max. I blessed those, so they are forever save from the curse of undeath. We went back to Hommlet to rest more and get our strength back. Johan has been hurt seriously by the undead haunting Nulb, beyond my abilities to mend. We took some stuff to Spugnoir for identfying. Joe wants to spend some time to study new spells. Meanwhile we will go to Verbobonc to sell our findings and get some decent equipment. This town is just to small.

Day 20-22

Travelling pretty fast to Verbobonc on the horses we bought in Hommlet with Gralsch running behind us.

Day 23

A lot of selling and buying. I bought some magic to boost my connection to the Son of Light and some other usefull equipment.

Day 24-26

Travelling just as fast back again on my new heavy warhorse. Joe told us some pretty interesting stuff. It turns out that my days at the temples of Pelor and St.Cuthbert haven't been for nothing. Canoness Y'dey has approached Joe with a deal for us all. There are sightings of more purple-robes in Rastor, a small Hamlet about a week to the southwest. If we go there to set things straight, she will provide a house including servants for us there, with a steady but limited supply of healing potions. We will start travelling there tomorrow.

Day 27-33

The trip to Rastor was interrupted by two encounters with beasts. The first with a few enourmous spiders, the second one with a group of Gnolls and a Hill Giant. The Hill Giant almost got the best of us. Barion went down, Gralsch had to retreat for healing and I almost lost my horse. With some final slashes by me and Joe the monster went down. We found some interesting magical equipment in his huge sack, no doubt taken from not so strong travellers.

Day 34

We arrived in Rastor and were greeted properly by Rerrid Hammersong, a dwarven warrior of Moradin who had already gotten a message from Canoness Y'dey about our arrival and the deal. We were guided to a small stronghold, which is our homebase for the near future. The servants seem competent.

Cast:
Seward Stoker - Human Cleric of Azor'Alq
Johan - Human Rogue/Fighter/Ranger
Joe Dalton III - Halfling Rogue/Wizard
Barion - Aasimar Paladin of Al'Akbar

Day 35
As we woke up in this small village of Rastor, already at breakfast the local rules-lawyers were badgering us. Giving a half-orc the post of Sherrif in such a community is quite a good example of how things are going here.

Rerrid, the dwarf, seems a good man, though he has lost a lot of self-respect, which seemed quite logical after hearing him telling about his clan being driven away by clerics and monsters from their own mines.

He and his clan now live here in Rastor, together with some humans and (half) orcs. They would be verry happy if we could clear out the temple. People from there travel to town regularly to buy and sell.

Almost none in town has been near the old vulcano in ages. We talked to a wizardess, Tymerian, who had been there some years ago and lost her whole group of companions. They were blasted out of the skies by lightning bolts and later imprissoned by undead. She said she would help us, but won't join us in going there. I also spoke to one of the Orcs, but their camp is the other way and they are just hunters.

So we saddled our horses and went out of town. As we were leaving, the Sherrif spoke to us again, this time in a to happy way. He is clearly incompetent and under the influence of drugs or booze. While we rode away we saw some other people swaying al little ... this town is doomed.

At the end of the day we encountered some heavy and deep tracks, and decided to camp some distance from the path.

Day 36
In the middle of the night a grey giant creature came to our camp to put out the fire. I was ready to attack as soon as it showed violence but the others were not as smart. Joe cast at him and Johan fired an arrow at it. So it attacked and Johan was torn apart. When the monster slowly walked away, seemingly unaffected by the harm we did to it, I didn't follow and the rest backed off to. It is a shame to lose Johan, he will have a hard time telling his god how he died, whichever one he followed.

We packed up again and rode further to the vulcano. As we rode over a hill we saw a group of warrior escorting a small prisoner in their midst. We rode a little closer and Barion told us he sensed they were all evil, all except the prisoner. We asked them about their business and they told us it was their job to get people who "nose around", and that we were on "their property". They refused to let the prisoner go so we attacked them. Joe's sleep spell knocked a few down while we killed the rest. We bound one of the knockouts and freed the small man, a weak gnome.

He was very relieved that we had freed them. He tried to look tough and said he could defend himself, but he couldn't when I punched him unconscious. We tried to talk to the woman warrior, but she started giving headbuts and screaming, so I knocked her out to. Later we woke the gnome, his name is Ali Chemicali, quite an odd name. He says he is an acid caster, but we'll see about that tomorrow. He is eager to turn the vulcano into acid, so he goes along.

We brought the woman back again, and after a deaththreat she was quiet and answered our questions. She told us she was a hired guard, and it was their duty to guard the entrance to the mountain complex. Further on there were temples, but she has never been there. There seem to be lots of monsters there. Joe and me wanted to leave her somewhere tied up high in a tree, but Barion wants to take her with us ... so now she hops along behind him.

We travelled a little further and set camp again.

Day 37
Ali C. can indeed cast some spells, as he boosted himself this morning. He doesn't have enough spells to boost us yet, but I can understand that. After an hour or so we came to a Y in the road. The left part seemed very often travelled, but the woman wanted to go right, to her entrance of the vulcano. She told us some more and there seem to be four temples inside, that are on hostile terms with eachother. There are two entrances, we will take the one to the left.

That brought us to a wide and high caves, with a great double door some yards in the cave. Arrowslits lined the walls, but there was no-one behind them. As we pushed the doors open and rode on, I was shot from a platform that hung high near the 35 ft ceiling of the cave. This was a very long and wide room with several other hallways and huge bronze doors. As the shooter yelled for help, we set ourselves up for combat.

Well ... that came ... and how. 2 Ogres, 2 Clerics, a high level fighter and some 20 gnolls and human guards came pouring in the hallway, wave after wave. There were a few times when I was on the brink of galloping away, but the combat never seemed quite that hopeless. I healed myself a lot and near the end of the combat brought Barion and Ali back to consciousness so they couldn't be killed easily. To bad one of the clerics got away. He had quite some magical powers.

We healed ourselves with the potions we found on the dead bodies and loaded all magical and masterwork stuff onto the horses. Some miles away, we set up camp and hid our trails from any followers.

10: Destroying the Air Temple (by Seward)
Day 38

From the guard that wasn't dead we extracted some information about the Temple. It seems the Air Temple of this vast complex. We have killed a cleric called Choranth, and that the one that got away is named Fachish. We met an archer called Xandos, he is not of the right kind, but might be able to help.

Back in the temple we met three gargoyles. They wanted some bodies to put in a Pit for fighting. I am really against that, but they left us alone so I didn't comment.

In a room with an altar we fought a big battle against Large Skeletons, fighters (one of which we'd killed before) and a Large Air Elemental. Fachish got away through the altar near the end. The gargoyle helped kill one of them in the hallway. By a trick of evil faith :rolleyes , the gargoyles were able to get to the fighters before me, and they weren't dead yet, so they took them away before I could kill them properly and save them from the pitfights.

11: Air down, three other Temples to go ... (by Seward)
Day 38 continued

We healed ourselves and examined the rooms and the bodies of the fallen. Barion and me destoyed the evil altar. Joe had tried to burn one of the tapestries, and started to attack us after that. I disarmed him, after which he wasn't a threat anymore. A little while later he came to his senses again.

After we destroyed the altar, the ceiling started to come down, so we fled away. Barion got a little to much stones on the head, so went down. Xandos used a wand to get him up and running again.

We went outside, to set up camp somwhere, when we met a halfling that worships Olidammarra ... brrr. She, Bupu, wanted to help us, so I told here to guard the entrance of the Air Temple.

Day 39
We powered up again and went back to the Air Temple. Bupu had guarded the exit all night, so is atleast good for something. We went searching through the complex, and found some books with more information. It seems that Choranth had an Half-Orc lover, and that the fighter we killed twice was named Kelial and was wielding the Sword of Air the second time. There was also some information about a so called god named Yan'C'Bin. It's probably another nickname because I've never heard of him.

We found two balconys looking out over a huge lake, with a big castle on an island in the middle. Three bridges connected to it from the surrounding mountain. In an area of natural rock we found a small fortification of the Air Temple. We killed the guards and went further. In an enormous cave, a sevenheaded dragonlike monster came charging at us. Bupu and Xanos fired at it, so it was really hurt when it reached us. I put it down with one good hit.

While searching through its cave, a part of the ceiling came down on Bupu, and I found a passage leading down. Bupu went down hanging from a rope. The passage leads down to the lake.

In another cave we found stairs leading up to a wooden ceiling. Joe went to have a look and encountered some orcs. I went down after him, and they seemed quite smart. They knew how to speak common and didn't want to fight immediately. When told we fought the temple, they wanted to help. So they brought us to their leader, who had a plan about fighting the next part of the Temple ... it seems that is a Fire part. He has a fortified wagon with two large crossbows on it. A stone wall is the barrier to the next part. I can remove the door tomorrow, so then we'll all go through.

They threw a big party ... I dragged Joe to his bed afterwards. Barion stood guard much of the time.
