12: Attack on the fire temple (by Barion)
Dear diary,

While I'm standing guard, our acid maniac tried to sneak on to me. It turned out he was disguised and trying to get back to us after doing Al'Akbar knows what. Probably trying to get a maid into bed instead of doing his duty...

Joe also came walking to me with a small boy with a trumpet. The boy was called "Bengel". He wanted to become a holy fighter in the fight against evil. As he is a young angel, his potential could not be unlocked on Paladin School. I agreed to help him with reaching into himself and find out how to become a holy warrior. We discussed this untill the morning.

Someone tried to assinate our party by conjuring two shadow hounds and instructing them to attack us. As Al'Akbar teaches us to protect those given into our care, we were vigilant during our watch and the hounds were defeated without a problem.

Day 40

In the moring, the orc tribe arrived to help us fight against the evil of the fire temple. After a few preperations, the door was breached and the misled creatures that defended the fire temple were overrun.

At the next intersection, an ambush was set for us. The trickery of evil knows no borders. A dozen gnolls were sacrificed to lure us into this ambush. But we showed them the errors of their ways..

Six fighters, two wizards, two hill giants, a dire wolferine and a foul creature of evil, an evilly warped troll jumped on us. We bravely fought them and only one of the original trolls and one of the wizards escaped from the cleansing power of the forces of good.

After the gloriously fought battle, we recuperated. Joe identified our new items for the fight against evil for us before leaving for Verbobonc. It turned out he had pressing duties there. However, if we have problems, we only need to call on him for help. Though it is unfortinate to loose his sword in the battle against the evil temple, it is good to know that he is forfilling his duty. Al'Akbar give me the wisdom to make the right discision when having to choose between two duties.

Joe returned shortly after he left to tell us that he encountered eight trolls on the way out. One of them was bigger than the others and another was less connected with earthly matters.

Duty calls, we just entered the fire temple and need to destroy it like we did with the air temple. Al'Akbar, give us the faith to continue with our godgiven duty.

Re: The Cast ... since last session:
The evilly warped troll from ther story was D'gran. The party had with them the leader of the orc-clan and their shaman whom had a stick of healing and a ring of invis.

The party won because of them, but didn't really like to divide the xp ;) :rollin

They dumped D'Gran's body in the Stalagos
They are now high enuff lvl to withstand the rigors of the temples, so I stop pulling punches now. Stay tuned!

Party lvl is about 7-8 now. Some characters died and thus lost some xp. They are slowly approaching the fire temple now, which I am REALLY going to play up. There are enough people there who wanna take over because Fire is strongest now ;)

I use the Forgotten Realms XP table and when a character dies, the player makes a new one or gets raised => loses xp like this: LVL * 500 = xxxx

I hope you mean:
XP = XP - (LVL * 500)

Thats what I use.

Re: The Cast ... since last session:
thats not to bad a system :) I usually do a 20% xp loss if a person brings in a new character - your system works out to be about ~13%. I may run with that instead of the current rule (unless 3.5 changes?) so that it is a bit more even (raising can lose you betwenn .5 of a level and 1.5 too varied for me). I am a little more harsh on new characters because we sometimes have a run of new character after new character as a player plays around trying to create the 'Uber' character he wants. Not as bad as a campaign I play in - new characters come in at 3rd! Now that we a re 10th this could pose problems, but the GM won't listen to reason - apparently if we are killed by a non-raising situation we should look for divine assitance?? :P

13: Aftermath of the firetemple (By Bengel the Engel)
13: Aftermath of the firetemple (By Bengel the Engel)

After our harsh fight with the foul creatures of the firebridge, we had a day's rest to regain our powers. Seward rejoined the party, a seemingly bright fellow with a sense of justice and good. He may be, like Barion, someone to look up to in my future ways and quests.

The next day we searched the rest of the temple. Ali let a book explode in our faces, but we managed to survive the blast. We found some treasure, and a path leading on. It seems we have managed to rid 2 out of 4 temples, and with that about 25 percent of the vulcano. But there is more in the centre of the vulcano.

The next day, trolls came to the orcs. They bargained a way of passage by giving them a halfling slave. Even though this is something almost as horrid and evil as the temples, we were at complete loss. We are no match for the orcs, let alone the orcs AND the trolls. We went with the trolls to see where they are going, and they are now inhabiting the old airtemple. It seems that whenever we rid evil and move on, more (but lesser) evil comes to take its place.

And then we moved on towards the next exit, which should be a day's march. But since this is a perilous place, it may take much more.

First we encountered 2 strange creatures with mandibles who had some strange confusion effect. Fortunately we destroyed their evil ways. After that there was some sort of reptile splashing acid over us. Again, we were victorious. We kept on going, perhaps feeling too proud of ourselves to have been victorious in 2 battles already that day. We came upon a mining site, no doubt a leftover from the dwarves. As i was investigating the devices there, a dragon came ....

This foul creature is strong, flying and has an acid breath. The battle was long, hard and deadly. We have lost both Barion and Ali to this beast, and when the beast was almost dead it knocked me out. I was awakened by Seward, and he told me a centaur came charging in after he also had gone down. It was a very harsh sight, 2 of my newfound friends in the quest to destroy evil dead in a matter of minutes. We will take the new fellow who so valiantly saved us into the party, and have retreated back to the orcs to rest for the night. It will be hard to continue our quest with only 3, but with heironieous' help we may do so.

I had beefed up Vranthis to a CR 10, since the party had fought umberhulks and digester before the encounter. Also, his HP was 1.5 times that of normal (199 hp).
The battle went so well for him, that I ignored the "half hp, then flee"-rule.

The sorcerer died first in the fight (one breath and one full attack round, -40 or so :evil ), so I let him make a new character during the fight. The [party and Vranthis were exchanging heavy blows, but I was lucky with the breath and I had him fly around, which meant only the Trumpet Archon could reach him.

The player made a centaur barbarian, which he had ready just in time to avoid the TPK. The entire party was either down or dead when he charged in and managed to take off the last 15 HP of Vranthis. Fun!!! :rollin

P.S. to Arcane: Use the "FRCS XP" system instead of the flat "average party lvl XP". People then get XP based on individual level. A little bit more work, but a whole lot more fair.

14: the return to verbobonc (by Bengel the Engel)
14: the return to verbobonc (by Bengel the Engel)

Day 44
After a goods days rest in the relative safety of the orcs we returned to the spot where we killed the dragon. We met a Kuo Toa belonging to the watertemple who offered a temporary allegiance to attack the firetemple.

This being was slightly evil, so we wisely said we would return if we wanted to take that deal.

We found the dragons nest, and there was a magical pyramid in front of its (small) treasure. Both dispellings failed and then the centaur trigger it, and in came some large ape. The ape died quickly, yet we had to heal the centaur afterwards heavily.

We decided, heavily burdened with items taken from the evil ones, to return to verbobonc to redistribute it. In rastor there was a arcane magic user waiting for us, who longed to join us. We of course allowed it, as he was good like us (as Seward informed me). The party now consists of 4 again, as the half orc still lays ill and that halfling wondered off again.

Day 45 - 51
It took us a week to get to verbobonc. We were attacked twice at night by some beasts, but neither was a hazardous attack.

Day 52
In verbobonc we learned that Joe was infiltrating and taking over the thieves guild, im sure to put an end to their evil ways. We sold our bounty and did some well deserved shopping; now we are better prepared to fight in the temple.
