A rambling tale with a question at the end. (long)
Hey all, I've been lurking for awhile trying to get ideas for my own Temple campaign. Thanks to all of your for the errata/faq/help/advice/ideas. It's been helpful. :D

I actually started out as a player in this game and made it all the way through the moathouse before the DM decided this was a little too big and wanted to go back to playing - so I got nominated to DM - not a problem, as I'm the main DM for the group, but I was a little bummed. More so, as I was already dm'ing a Night Below campaign on Sundays.

Well, the party has had a string of bad luck recently, combined with some bad judgement calls. It started with the Fire Bridge - they made a strong push in and stayed about two rounds too long before deciding to retreat. I had two characters on the ground and another one about to be pounded before I decided D'Gran would pull a truce out (he was blinded by the Transmuter) in order to get his sight back. He then let the party walk.
I know I was being nice and the players know I was being nice. But I've never seen a game session turn that sour that fast. It took three rounds for their retreat to turn into a route. . We ended up stopping the game that night and just chatted for a few hours about what was going wrong and what was going right. Helpful, but a little demoralizing.
I decided then after talking with some of the players that they needed a focus. Something to tie their rather disparate characters together. Enter The Black Shield - an organization willing to hire the group to do what they're already doing. Now when someone asks why are we doing this, it's because "you're getting paid by a semi-secret organization."

Then, to boost morale, I took out Dungeon #87, and started running The Cradle of Madness once they made it to Verbobonc to restock. It's an adventure for 6th level characters. My party is 8th going on 9th. It's a great little module and it fits perfectly in with the module in my mind. What starts off as a simple ransom drops soon escalates into discovering that the Cult of Tharizdun is about to fullfill a prophecy and the Emissary will soon be born.
It was nearly a TPK. As it was, I was lenient and only two characters died.
The first death was the thief - he had taken the place of the man who was to drop the ransom. He drops the money and then allows himself to be captured by the kidnappers - not realizing that they were just going to kill the man. Scratch one thief. Amusingly, the party had been wondering what good the thief really was. Six traps later they knew.
The next death was in the main temple. The party ruins the ceremony, kills the girl they're to rescue, and provokes the high priest into hitting the self-destruct button. The temple is dropping chunks everywhere. I stretch the two round 'all goes boom' to three rounds and everyone makes it out - except the priest. He goes squish.
Some morale booster.
Anyways. There's to be a ressurection, a character change out and a whole lot of anger at the temple of Tharizdun. It's not what I wanted/expected but hopefully it will do.
Now to the question -
Has anyone else run Cradle of Madness? If so, what happened?

Cradle Spoilers
I ran Cradle. It is, indeed a great adventure, and to some a welcome relief from the dungeon-crawling aspect of the CRM.

I can't remember, but somehow the PCs avoided Elgoth destroying the temple. They, too, killed Lyssa and the baby, which was a little nasty. After all, they did disrupt the ritual so the baby would have been fine. Oh well...

Welcome to the boards, BTW. I look forward to hearing more about your campaign.

Thanks for the welcome. As soon as I get some of my notes straightened out I'll see about posting them.

Lyssa...Lyssa...where have I seen that name before? Oh, was it here? Is there some connection? :)

Ah, silly me. Her name was Lyza. But I'm pretty sure where I got that name... (Great write-up, Andorax!)
