Fire Temple gaining ground.
In my campaign the South Entrance and the Air Temple inhabitants have been killed along with the kua-toas of the Water Bridge area and the Gargoyles. The party decided after getting so much loot there to go back to town and sell all the stuff. They haven't been back to the south entrance yet because they decided to go after Vranthris because he had killed most of the party last time, two characters remain from the originals. So it has been over two weeks since the PCs have been back to that area.
I have made it to where the Fire Temple leaders found out about the Air Temple and South Entrance being empty and decided to take it over. I figure they would put some people and guards up there to take over that area, and they would probably destroy the alter in the Air Temple.
Do you think they would try to get the Bugbears to join up with them in order to reinforce their numbers, or would they recruit some new members into their ranks. They might do both.

Arghh...lost my first post...didn't log in first.

I suggest you consider that Tessimon form an alliance with the Northern Bridge Complex (NBC) and have them move in to the South Entrance. If the Fire Temple destroys the Air Temple altar, then it's reasonable to assume that the Air Bridge no longer needs to be guarded. At worst, a couple of guards (trolls) could be stationed there. Tessimon might even provide a few salamanders as "advisors" in the South Entrance, inhabiting area 82 or 84.

The Water Temple might also hear of the vacancy and try to move some forces there (via the Water Door in 91), but they should be wiped out by the Fire Temple.

I might be confused about something. Are the people that guard the specific bridge complexes tied to those temples?

Bridge Complexes
THey're not supposed to be allied with any of the temples, but some of them are. For example, D'Gran has been paid off by the Fire Temple, but it's basicly only good on paper, his chaotic nature doesn't make him very loyal to anyone but himself.

Re: Bridge Complexes
They're not tied to the temples, at least not per the module. I didn't mean to give that impression. You can make any alliances you want; I was merely suggesting one that in my mind made some sense, and might help provide a more dynamic feel. The PC's could even see the "migration" of forces from one location to another. There is a lot of RP potential there.

Re: Bridge Complexes
Well tonight the group has killed all of the forces of the Earth Temple and destroyed the alter. I believe I will do what you suggested with the Northern Bridge Complex and move those forces over to the Main Gate and surrounding area. I think I will leave a few trolls at that bridge to guard it.
I think I am also going to make it to where the Water Bridge/dock is held by the Fire Temple also.

Re: Bridge Complexes
One loose end to tie up...perhaps approval from Hedrack for abandoning the NBC would be required. If so, then maybe Oamarthis has a letter from Hedrack (or Naquent). You can have Hedrack scribble approval on the back of a letter that Oamarthis might have sent. Example:
Quote:
Dear Master Hedrack,
I respectfully request that I be allowed to vacate my current position at the Northern Bridge Complex and control of the Air Bridge to the South Entrance and the abandoned Air Temple. Without a functioning altar, the Air Bridge will find little use. High Priestes Tessimon, in her gracious wisdom, has offered to supply a couple of trolls to maintain a limited guardianship over the bridge. The South Entrance is a more important and strategic location.
Your Humble Servant,
Oamarthis

[scribbled on the back]
Your request has been approved. Do not fail in guarding the South Entrance and the remains of the Air Temple like that fool Fachish. The consequences would be...recurring.
Hedrac

Re: Bridge Complexes
Question. Do the corresponding alters also give the keys and greater keys and such their magical properties to be able to open the doors to the Outer Fane.

I think there was a thread on this very question a week or so ago. You might want to search or scan pages 2-4 to hunt it down. I think the general consensus was that if you do this, you could potentially extend your CRM campaign longer than you want (until the characters figure this out). I would certainly rule that the "blessings" bestowed by the alters with the greater keys and phrase can't be used anymore if the alter is destroyed, but I don't think I'm going to remove any power of the keys IMC.

OK I found that and reread over page 39 and 40 again. So the keys will not be effected by the destroying of an alter just the sword.

What about the Bugbears? Do you think they will join with the Fire Temple also. Suppose the chief takes the bribe that Tessimon has offered.

Stand Alone Complex
Hmmm

Now I thought about it.. I would think Fire Temple is too vain to admit that someone else destroy the temple. as a result.. Hedrack will never suspect that PC parties destroy several temples, not fire temple. If anything, he may either punish fire temple or go as his business. It is his belief of survival of the fitness. In meantime, PCs are free from going through deep scrunity imposed by Hedrack!

Re: Stand Alone Complex
The other thing I'm thinking about for my campaign (players have also eaten into Fire Temple forces) is that Tessimon has lots and lots of salamanders on tap - sure, she's found them hard to control and been destroying them as they appear, but if some areas need reinforcing, I'm sure she'd be okay with bringing a couple more on...

Re: Stand Alone Complex
I like that idea. I think I will put some of those extra slamanders where the dock to the water door is. I was also thinking about having Tessimon use stone shape to close up the dock area so no more Kua-toans can get into that area through the water.
