Anotated 3d Verbobonc Map Key
Hey folks, I've detailed a number of locations on the key for the wonderful 3d Verbobonc map that is floating around and figured I'd post it for everyone to look at and use at your leisure. There are still some holes so feel free to fill in any blanks or make any suggestions for improving existing descriptions.

First the HIGH QUARTER:

HIGH QUARTER - Best maintaned of all City Quarters. Clean and safe, all noble houses of Verbobonc maintain a residence in this Quarter (in edition to their countryside estates and landholds, and other residences in other parts of the city).

A1 Monastery of the Reverent Brothers (Rao) - Overseen by Martiolus Legeum, Patriarch of Rao (Human-LG Cl.17), heavily influenced by Veluna. Patriarch Legeum is the defacto representative of Veluna in Verbobonc. The Monestary also houses the 'Order of the Holy Fist' an organization of LG Fighting Monks devoted to the worship of Rao - Shining Master Jakob Denu - (Human LG Mnk. 15).

A2 Verbobonc Mint - Overseen by Master of the Mint Robo Goldfinger - Gnome NG Exp. 5/Arist. 4. The mint is protected by a variety of magical and conventional traps. The 'family' (gnome mafia), keeps it's members away from the mint, as it realizes that damage to the mint, or it's operations could adversely impact their operations in the city.

A3 House of Tymak, Mayor of Verbobonc - Luthor Tymak is loyal to Viscount Wilfrick, and has strong ties to the Merchant House of Macor and is the head of Noble House Tymak. (Human Arist. NG 12)

A4 Harvester Theatre (Ruined by fire) - The Verbobonc Players Guild, and House Sarcina are currently lobbying the Viscount, Mayor, Merchant and other Noble Houses to have the Theatre reconstructed.

A5 Lord Marakios Haxx's Manor - Lord Haxx (Human N Fighter 13/Arist. 2) the patriarch of House Haxx has his own agenda. His keep serves as the Headquarters of Haxx's Hardheads which has training grounds and facilities in the countryside to the north of the city as well.

A6 Segemm's Store of Collectibles - Nobles and Weathy merchants frequent this establishment which specializes in jewelry and art objects. Arthur Segemm and Marakios Haxx are old freinds and Segemm keeps Haxx 'informed' on the many rumors he hears from his influential clientle.

A7 Church of St. Cuthbert - Shilgen Davers, LG Bishop of St. Cuthbert (Human-LG Cl. 16) leads the Cuthbertian sect in the City. The Cuthbertians are often at odds with the followers of Pholtus and consistantly oppose any warming of relations with the Pale. The worship of St. Cuthbert is becoming increasingly popular and Bishop Davers has commissioned the construction of a new Temple in the Merchant's Quarter. The priests and followers of St. Cuthbert are often seen as adventurers in the Viscounty.

A8 Lady Kathryn Sarcina's Manor - Home of the Matriarch of the Sarcina Noble house of Verbobonc. House Sarcina Sponsors the Knights of Verbobonc, off which Lady Kathryn's brother Parcival Sarcina is the current Grandmaster (Human LN Fighter/Cavilier).

A9 House Velysin, Captian of the Militia - Home of the Velysin Noble House. Joram Velysin, the son of Patra Velysin (head of House Velysin) is the Captain of the Verbobonc Militia, and has fought in the wars against Iuz to the north (Human, LG Fighter 8/Ranger 2). He lives in a modest home (for a noble) owned by House Velysin in the high quarter. His father and the rest of House Velysin typically stay at their estates to the south of the city.

A10 Wilfrick Keep - Home of the Viscount Wilfrick, House Wilfrick and his elite guards the Mounted Borderers. Frederick Albers (LN Human Fighter 12) is the current leader of the Borderers and is completely loyal to Lord Wilfrick. Add info on Spymaster (Sir Ingish Blackhand -Human LN Wiz14/Mindbender 3) and VISO*, as well as the Viscount himself.

Merchant's Quarter
MERCHANT'S QUARTER - The Hustle and bustle of the Merchant's quarter

B1 Mercantile Exchange - Merchant House Naso traditionally controls the Merchantile Exhange and the houses offices are located in this building. Other merchant houses and companies participate in an annual election to determine the head of the merchantile Exchange, but do not wield the power to remove House Naso from it's place of prominance.

B2 Trader's Market - Smaller merchants and craftsmen are invited to sell their wears at the Trader's Market in exchange for a small fee (5% of all proceeds). Once per month House Naso, the Silver Consortium, and the Church of Zilchus sponsor a monthly market for the sale and exchange of magic tems. The Trader's Market is owned and opperated by Merchant House Naso.

B3 Chapel of Zilchus - Patrician Malthus Kendell (M Human LN Cl. 11). The Church of Zilchus is quite powerful in the city and Malthus is good friends with Publis Naso and is much of the reason House Naso is consistantly the most powerful merchant house in the Viscounty. House Naso makes large donations to the Church of Zilchus, as do the other Merchant Houses, which are in most cases unaware of the favoratism that Malthus gives the Nasos. Malthus is an accomplished diplomat, and is able to keep all of the merchants (and nobles with merchantile interests) on good terms with the Church, which prospers because of his leadership. Priests of Zilchus can be found offering assitance and arbitration throughout the Merchantile Sector. Thieves and Charleteans are often held in the dungeons beneath the temple until they are judged by the city magistrates. The priests sometimes conviently 'forget' to report these prisoners to the local authorities, and let particularly notorious or troublesome individuals rot in their subterranian cells.

B4 Chapel of Rudd - Mistress Bethe Malick (F Human CN - Cl. 7), Frequented by craftsmen, gamblers, adventurers, and merchants. Bethe dislikes Lester Burblebock because she know's he 'fixes' many of the games taking place at his establishment. She is good friends with Kabora the Rhennee, and often gives her and her 'girls', or other Rhennee refuge in a hidden chamber beneath the Temple. The priestesses often hide or give santuary to other individuals that are on the run from the Priests of Zilchus or city watch as well.

B5 Office of Harbormaster Clive Harrich - The harbormaster has a reputation for being corupt and can be bribed for information and to 'overlook' any unorthodox goings on quite easily.

B6 New Manor of Prince Jimm - Prince Jimm has commissioned the construction of a new residence outside of the traditionally strong Gnome District of Verbobonc in an effort to strengthen his ties to the merchant elite of the Viscounty. The choice of a site outside of Verboektown suprised gnome and human alike and proves that the Prince is still open-minded and progressive.

B7 New Temple of St. Cuthbert - The Church of St. Cuthbert is experiencing a steady increase in membership in the region. Increased donations as well as a large 'anonymous' donation (Noble House Velysin) has prompted Bishop Davers to commission the construction of a new temple in the Merchant Quarter.

B8 Jamstav's Merchant House - Offices of Merchant House Jamstav, weakest of Verboboncs major merchant houses.

B9 Tower of Ahmet ibn Hamza, Superintendent of Waterworks - Ahmet is a moderately powerful sorceror (LN H Sorc. 9)of Balklunish descent that had trained in the arts of engineering and architecture before leaving the lands to the West. Ahmet often uses water elemental minions/servants to inspect and repair the cities waterworks. Ahmet is currently petitioning the Viscount for the reconstruction of the ruined aquaduct that was mysteriously destroyed (the aquaduct was destroyed during the struggle that resulted in the destruction of the Elemental School of Magic to the east of the city).

B10 The Bridgewalk Tavern - Posh Eatery and Taphouse frequented by merchants and well-to do travellers.

B11 Bensar's Wax Works - Owner Natan Bothum - CG H Exp. 5, keeps busy fufilling numerous contracts with the many churches in the city.

B12 Tower of Sir Ingish Blackhand - Home of the Head of VISO and the Viscounts Spymaster. Heavily protected by arcane magiks and other unknown protective devices/methods (see Wilfrick Keep).

B13 Macor's Merchant House - Offices of Merchant House Macor

B14 Nib's Importers - This is an odd and eclectic little shop, full of hanging silks, rugs from all over Oerth half unrolled on the floor, brass and silver objects of Baklunish origin, carved scrimshaw and ivory from the northern barbarians, stone Olman totems with fierce animal faces, pearls and small gems. There is a small but well appointed shrine to Garl Glittergold in a prominent position. Milos Nib (N Male Gnome Exp. 6) and his sons run the shop and are interested in all sorts of magical and mundane items of exotic origin or utility.

B15 Jerkin Bonefinger's House of Pleasure - The name speaks for itself, located in a smaller back alley, this house of ill-repute is frequented by the wealthy and not-so-wealthy alike. The propetior and owner a flamboyant gnome Jerkin Bonefinger (gnome CN Rog. 6) is a member of the 'family' (Gnome Mafia), which makes sure that troublemakers never make it back to this establishment. Members of the
'family' can frequently be found at this establishment and it is probably the easiest place to get into contact with this establishment (a route runs through the catacomes and sewers from Jerkin's establishment to the headquarters of the 'family' in the Gnomish quarter).

B16 The Packard's Trough (Tavern) - A pretty run-of-the-mill tavern frequented by merchants and workers alike. The trough is owned and opperated by the friendly dwarf Mangor Ironhand (Exp. 5), who is a good friend to the owner of the owner of Jala's - Gimmian Stonehold. Mongor brews his own stout dwarven ale, and the Trough is a favorite of dwarves throughout the city. He is not fond of elves.

B17 House of Publius Naso - Home of Merchant House Naso (strongest of Verboboncs major merchant houses). House Naso also owns a large estate to the west of the city.

B18 Betham's Books (Home of Betham the Sage) - Coffee-shop/Bookstore/Library which is the focus of more 'non-traditional' and less-regimented arcana in Verbobonc. A loose organization of Arcanists calling themselves the Wrinkle Academy call Betham's Home. Bethem himself is a member of the academy and has a strong dislike for 'Juelihm the Conjeoror' and the Silver Consortium in general. Betham's is also frequented by students and instructors from the Academy of Farsight which is across the street from the coffee house.

B19 Church of Delleb - Maintain the City Library which containts mostly mundane texts on History and Geography. The head priest Maxis Eisenhorn (NG Human Cleric 7/Exp. 3), is an accomplished sage, and is an expert on Regional History. Use of texts is free of charge, but donations are encouraged.

B20 Church of Pelor - Father Bothus Kincade (LG Human Cleric 12)

B21 Temple of Heironeous - Prelate Luthar Huss (LG Human Pal. 13)

B22 Guild of Brewers and Bakers -

B23 Jala's Armoury and Weaponsmithy - Gimmian Stonehold (dwarf N Exp. 16). Gimmian has a large contract with the Mounted Borderers and Viscounty Mustered Soldiery and is often called to the Wilfrick Keep to discuss martial matters with the Viscount and his advisors. Gimmian also has contacts in the Silver Consortium and many of the local Churches that work with him to construct magical arms and armor.

B24 Sisters of Mercy (Hospital of Zodal) - The priestesses of Zodal are a powerful force for good in the city and run the largest hospital and center for healing in the Verbobonc area. Only the high priests of some of the larger Churches in the city can surpass the healing prowess of Reverend Mother Marta Laceor (NG, Human F Cl. 7). Healing Potions, herbs, and medicines are for sale in a small apothicary that the Sisters maintain, and it is rumored that those in need are often given these goods or healing free of charge.

C2 City Hall

C3 Jylee's Inn - Nice large inn, Moderately expensive, often frequented by adventuring types that want to be close to the center of the city and the markets. Jylee is a former adventurer herself (F NG Human Sorc. 5/Fighter 3), and likes to get to know adventurers staying at her inn and trade tales, and find out what is going on in the adventuring world. Jylee has a pretty good grasp on current events across Oerth,
and her inn is a good place to recruit 'trustworthy' adventuring companions.

Rest of the city
------------------------------------------------
DAWN QUARTER - Working Class Quarter
------------------------------------------------
D1 Basilica of the Four Seasons (Atroa, Sotillion, Telchur, Wenta) -

D2 The Mighty Ducks Tavern - Farmers and workers frequent this place. Lively with simple, but tasty food and drink.

D3 The Red Don Inn - Cheap and spartan.

------------------------------------------------
EAST END - Rogues Quarter
-------------------------------------------------
E1 The Laughing Rogue Hostel and Chapel of Olidammara -

E2 Harnstid's Horse Stables and Sales -

E3 The Molten Spigot Tavern - Dive, ties to 'the family', they keep an eye on the Rogues Quarter using the Molten Spigot
as a base of opperations.

E4 The Season's End Inn - Dive, frequented by Riverboatmen and Miners in from the hinterlands,

E5 Lester's House of Cards - Lester Burblebock (Gnome, CN Rog. 7), is a spy for 'the family', and often 'fixes' games.

E6 The Riverside Inn - Dive, clients are thugs, cuthroughts, and other rough characters (unsavory adventuring types often find their way to the Riverside).

E7 Kabora's Jewel of the Velerdyva - House of ill-repute. Ties to the Verbobonc Thieves guild, but pay protection money
and a % of income to 'the family'. Very overdone and garish. Kabora, the madam of the facility (Human CN Rog 4), is a Rheenee (gypsy type folk), and often recieves information from Rhenee folk coming through the city.

E8 Dieg Manor - Vacant, bordeded up windows. Secret home of Verbobonc Thieve's Guild(not too powerful, 'the family'
controls most of the 'organized" criminal activity in the city. Most of what this guild does is in secret and they are careful to make sure the gnomes don't know what they are up too.

E9 Benin's Mill - Hanthur Benin (H CN Com. 4) is an unhappy member of the Verbobonc Miller's Guild. He dislikes gnomes and the power they have in the city and works only grudingly with the gnomish members of the guild and community. The miller has been known to hide those who are on the fun from the 'family'(gnome mafia). One of his former 'guests' is currently blackmailing Benin, by threatening to make this information known to the 'family'(Jyla Unliss - H CE Rog. 5).

--------------------------------------------------------
FOREIGN QUARTER - Middle Classes and Foreign dignitaries. The majority of elves in the city make their homes on two tree-lined streets in this Quarter.
--------------------------------------------------------
F1 Grandma Henri's House of Rest (Fharlanghn)

F2 The Players Inn - Frequented by elves, poets, artists and musicians.

F3 The Bronze Unicorn Inn - Elvish flavor, Shrine to Ehlonna, frequented by followers of Ehlonna, rangers, and other woodsmen types. Owner is a former member of the gnarley rangers.

F4 Temple of Blinding Light (Pholtus)

F5 House of Eldurin Aerina - Leader of Elves in the city.

F6 The Blind Beholder (Tavern) - Small, but a clean and well-keep Tavern. Caters to adventurers and foreigners with exotic food and
drink.

F7 Barloon's Stoneworks

---------------------------------------------------------
GNOME QUARTER (Verboektown) - Oldest section of town, amost completely
---------------------------------------------------------
G1 House of Jimm (Crown Prince of the Kron Hills) -

G2 Hilewy's Gnome Place - Museum of Verbobonc history and gnomish culture. Also a chapel to Garl Glittergold and shrines to other Gnomish gods.

G3&G4 Clotho's Clothes and Cheese House (info taken from shopping in Verbobonc) - It's quite easy to find Clotho's clothes in the Gnome Quarter - Clotho has a number of brightly painted shops overlooking the Velverdyva, near the southernmost bridge over to the East End. Clotho's Clothes is sandwiched between the pungent Clotho's Cheese House and Clotho's Taxidermy and Furrier. Unexpectedly, Clotho himself turns out to be a halfling, though he obviously fits into the local community quite well. He dresses much like a gnome and barks instructions to his gnomish assistants in their own language.

You can get all sorts of clothes, from the prosaic to the elegant, in this shop, which is surprisingly huge and includes two basement stories. It seems that the various outposts in Clotho's mercantile empire are connected underground. The prices are a bit on the expensive side. Clotho is in tight with the 'family', and that's why his prices are a bit high (many customers are rich crime types who don't mind spending a little extra in order to show off) and he has these mysterious supply sources.

G5 The Brass Rail (Tavern) - A nice family establishment sponsored by 'the family'. Quiet and elegant. Decor and food harkens to forests and nature.

G6 The Rusty Nail (Tavern) - Front for 'the family'. Rockus and loud. Comedy-crazy entertainment.

G7 The Guild of Millers -

G8 Burblebelly's Brewery -

----------------------------------------------------------
The Walls and Beyond
----------------------------------------------------------

H8 Ruins of the Elemental School of Magic - Sacked after the Battle of Emridy Meadows and the sponsors of the school where found to be loosely connected to the original Temple of Elemental Evil. (The school was actually framed. The headmaster and many of the prominent members of this organization had wronged the 'family', who saw the emergence of the Temple of Elemental Evil as a vehicle to discredit and destroy this organization.

H9 Shrine of Beory -

H10 Grissom's Animal Training -

H11 Shrine of Yondalla - The village of Hillsbourough that has formed outside of the north gate has a large halfling population. This small shrine caters to these villagers and other halflings living in the city. It is maintained by Janny Tumblebrook (LG Half. F, Cleric 3).

H12 The Latecomers Inn -

H13 The Silver Lyre Inn -

H14 The Crossroads Inn -

Re: New area descriptions to be added
Just a little heads-up about the Verbobonc government: Wilfrick died in his sleep of old age 4 years ago (GH time). He was succeeded by his oldest son, Sir Fenward Lefthanded. Fenward was a racist, pure and simple: He loathed the gnomes. In fact, he made his felings so well-known that most of the gnomes seceeded and now form an autonomous group in the Kron Hills. Fenward was killed by the captain of his own guard when resisting arrest after being accused of treason. Some papers had been found that implicated him as an agent of the Scarlet Brotherhood. They later turned out to be forgeries, but that was all too late for Fenward.

Now, the Viscount is a half-elven bastard son of Wilfrick, conceived during the fight at Emridy Meadows (during a lull in the fighting, one must assume). His name is Langard of the Gnarley border, a former ranger. With that out of the way, I'll see if I can fil out some of the blanks.

Oops... you're right!

It seems to be a Yahoo problem - they don't allow direct URL references to images.

You can get the map like this:

Go to www.geocities.com/vmmakko...toee/maps/

Select "Verbobonc" (3rd from top)

There are a whole lot of other maps as well, but you might have to do a bit of guesswork since the titles are in Finnish...

The CRM detail maps (Kaivokset A-L) are very, very useful to anyone who wants to make encounter sheets. Just smack them into the left-hand column of a two-column table in Word, and you can enter monsters in the left-hand column. I use that in my game, and it works great. Your maps are better than mine, Mak, so I wish I had them when I started plotting out the monsters.
