Wouldn't the human warriors 1 have a CR of 1/2 plus say 10% or even 20% rather than move them up to a full 1 CR for excessive equipment?
Just my opinion.... I knocked the experience down for mine and gave them 10%.
I thought I remembered see this elsewhere on this board.

Perhaps, I thought so, too, at first, but then I gave Monte the benefit of the doubt.  Personally, I'd prefer to make them all Ftr1 so they can get the extra feat and 2 hit points and that solves the issue of CR.

As for how to spice things up Aluviel, the main standby is to have other temples like water approach the group for help. It's working well in my group. Have the water temple spy (which you said got away) follow them as suggested and make an offer.
Even at 8/9 you may be able to surprise them with the howler, if you used the properly advanced version.

I always figured that Fire was going first for two reasons:
1) The Fire Temple was dominant at the time that the expedition to excavate the old temple set out.
2) That's the only Elem. power gem they have.
IMC, if my group was dragging their heels (which they aren't), I was going to have Water come next, predicated on the assumption that the Second, who is overseeing the operation, is biased (and annoyed that Fire came first). After Olhydra was freed, the Second would return to the IF (since things were going smoothly, the "alert status" was dropping) and let the Third take over the operation, freeing Yan-C-Bin next.
