Treasure Question
This may be a general DM question, but it's been troubling me as I've been running through prep work on the CRM.

For critters that are listed in the DMG with a treasure type, but have no treasure listed in the module: do you award treasure based on the type, or do you just give it a miss and rely on the described bits to reward your players?

Re: Treasure Question
I rely on the treasure in the module. People have complained that there isn't enough treasure in the module, but if you factor in all the masterwork armours and weapons (which, coming to think of it could all show signs of dwarven make, just for the history buffs), I think it evens out.

My gang lost practically all their valuables after a disastrous fight in the Earth Temple (3 true ressurrections hurt), so they're still quite behind on the cash side. However, the CRM has still provided them with enough valuables to keep their equipment on or above par, so they shouldn't complain.

Re: Treasure Question
I don't adjust either. Because my players are falling behind the treasure curve (for reasons unrelated to the module) I did an analysis of the CRs and the expected treasure value vs. the actual treasure value of the Western (Fire) Bridge complex, and with the all the mundane equipment it was pretty much spot on (actually a bit more than average but that provides for expendibles such as potions and scrolls that will be used).

"They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers. They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station

Re: Treasure Question
Thanks, guys. That was my thought too. Since our group contains an artificer with Craft Magic Arms & Armor, magical weapons become less of a problem, since he just enchants the masterwork items in the wagon when they travel to Verbobonc. In fact, in our last session we decided that he has the ability to make CraftMagic Adjustable Beds. I don't even want to think about what that means . . .

Anyway, this makes my life easier, since I won't have to consult treasure tables everytime they fight a random group of orcs.

I WILL probably do it if they fight a major random encounter, like the White Dragon, though.

Re: Treasure Question
I'm not sure everyone was talking about the same thing. For random encounters, you should work up the treasure. For monster in the module without listed treasure (though their description in the MM says otherwise), you should not give them treasure.

That was my understanding. Anything that makes my life easier is welcome. I spent most of yesterday converting the CRM monsters into tables in MS Word for easy searching a repurposing. It takes a ton of time, and I hate to think I'll need to go back and determine <50% gold, 50% gems, 50%art, 1/10 items, and a dill pickle> for half these things.

I tell you now: while I wouldn't recomend this module to other less experienced DMs, by the end of this thing you should really know how to run a game.

>>>since he just enchants the masterwork items in the wagon when they travel to Verbobonc. <<<

imbuing such a weapon with it's magical modifier requires one full day (8 hours) per 1000 gold in the price of the item

so a +2 sword requires 8 days of work... is that possible while travelling in a wagon?

just a question, not a remark as to how you run your camaign...

creating the magic weapon requires only half the normal price (thus 4000 instead of 8000 for a +2 weapon), but the time to make it is based upon the full price, so 1 day per 1000 gp in the cost = 8 days...
