Trying to tie in a plot thread into RtToEE
One of my PCs put forth a nice effort in creating a backstory for his character, and I'd like to try and work part of it into RtToEE.
He's a human ranger/rogue, and this is his backstory in brief:
Orpahed as a young child, Roland lived on the street in a large city for several years until he tried to pick the pocket of an elven ranger named Jathar Darkwood, who took him in and taught him the ways of the ranger. Now his adopted father is missing.
I'd like to have him discover some clues leading to Jathar, who is somewhere in one of the existing areas of the adventure. The few ideas I've come up with have been pretty obvious and uninteresting, and I'd really like to make it something exciting for him. The player needs a boost to get into the roleplaying aspect.
Thanks!

Lessee.
Left without word in hopes kiddo "wouldn't get involved". Investegating the Moathouse at the "suggestion" of Jaroo, just a couple days ahead of the PCs. Ambushed by the Cultists there. Turned into a Ghoul by the power of "Big T".
Ditto the leaving. Investegating the CRM having heard about problems there. Descriptions of someone looking like that available in Hommlet (went west, bonus reason to go to Rastor) and in Rastor. Tymerian (of Rastor) might have met him. From there, he can be:
Tortured to death in the Fire Temple.
Another head (fresher) hanging from the Western Gate door.
Sacrificial victim that's being cut open during the Earth Temple creemony.
A prisoner of the Outer Fane.

Re: Trying to tie in a plot thread into RtToEE
I would recommend that he was one of Tymerian's adventuring companions, captured during their assault on the Outer Fane.
The PC would recognize Tymerian's name, and Tymerian might even recognize the PC from his fathers descriptions, or they might have met in the past (depends on how tightly the PC wrote up the background).
You can either add the father as one of those captured in the CRM and OF (IIRC, it's Vister the paladin, a bard in an iron maiden, and serveral other captives which are the remnants of Tymerian's group or substitue him for one of them to personalize it for your PC.

Andorax - Cheery.
As spine tingling as those suggestions are, I'd like to have room for a happy reunion. I'd thought about replacing a captive with him, and that's fine, but I'm hoping to come up with something a little more interesting than that, but that'll probably be the way, using Zenon's plan.
Thanks!

Re: Trying to tie in a plot thread into RtToEE
If you really wanted to go through the trouble, you could replace Firre with the PC's father. The party must then likely not only defeat him, but attempt to do it without killing him and then have to take away and destroy the demonstone. The father of course would not want to be resurrected because that would be too easy ("just kill him...we'll resurrect him later"). Using this approach, that first meeting with father/son will be most interesting, especially if you want to be mean about it and have the father greet the son with open arms, while holding a poisoned dagger behind his back.
