As I understand it, the plan is that the final version of the conversion will be a .PDF file. If we have a volunteer to be the compilor/editor for this, I would recommend we use whatever format and posting method(s) would be easiest and most convenient for him/her.

If I can make a request, please publish this in a format that allows text blocks to be copied/pasted -- some PDF's don't allow that easily. If you can post it in a plain-text format as well, it would be helpful.

Re: Preparation and some thoughts
What about RTF? Or is that bad for Macs? I guess we could always have multiple file formats using the PDF as the master, RTF and text conversion shouldn't be difficult.

Regarding using bold for revisions, what about colored (i.e. red) text instead? Otherwise, are we not going to use bold for section headers and the like?

What about fonts and point sizes?

3.5 E "compliant" stat blocks
Differences I am aware of in 3.5 E stat block (please let me know if I am wrong or missing something):

1) Addition of "Base Attack/Grapple:" after Armor Class.
2) Attacks broken down into "Attack:" and "Full Attack:"

If coloration is conveniently available, I'd actually prefer using coloration to designate changes....and would recommend blue or green over red (after all, many of the stat blocks will potentially be quite thoroughly changed).

If multiple formats isn't a hardship on whomever is the master editor, so much the better.

Cordo, that's the differences in the "Full Block" that you see in a full monster writeup. How much of that appears in the abbreviated "paragraph form" official statblock remains to be seen. Anyone know for certain either way on this one?

Oh ok so we will use the abbreviated paragraph form then?

Re: 3.5 E "compliant" stat blocks
RTF is OK, but it's not really a Mac/Win issue but rather a Word/non-Word issue. I've just found that RTF for some reason isn't as 'portable' as it really should be. The SRD is particularly annoying in this way, especially for its tables. I don't have a ton of experience with them to know if it's how WoTC made the files or something more fundamental.

In any case, it's usually not hard to find someone that can convert one format to another pretty easily. In particular, anyone that's got access to a Mac running OS X can output PDF from any application that ends up being completely copy/paste-able from Reader. The PDF version of the FAQ I create is originally a Word document, for example.

I agree that color would be a nice idea. It doesn't always translate to nice b/w print, but many folks have color inkjets these days.

Good point, but if we make the changes in blue colour, you should be OK. If we differentiated between blue and green, then there might be a problem... ;)

Cordo, to answer your question...yes, we'll be writing up the statblocks in the "paragraph" form, the same style that's presently being used in the Appendix.

One side benefit to this is that we'll have a full appendix of stats independant of the original module, thus a whole heck of a lot easier to refer to than flipping back and forth, especially if we include a "commonly found in" reference in the statblocks.

Much like the stat blocks on ZansForCans's site that Surfal and I did. In fact, they already contain grapple checks, though not the single attack line. It'd be easy to start with those for the CRM and simple change back the splatbook/BoVD modifications to the core where applicable.

I think the attack/full attack is pretty darn helpful, and that we should use it in our stat blocks.

I agree. I didn't mean to imply we shouldn't, just that they don't have them at the moment. :) Also, they are probably not "official" stat block format. Just an idea, anyway.

I'll throw my hat in the ring as a volunteer. If it's open, I'd like to do Nulb/Ruined Temple...otherwise just point me at what you want me to work on.

Re: 3.5 E "compliant" stat blocks
At this point, it would be good for our "section managers" to check in and say they're still on board.

I'm still ready, willing, and waiting on my books to tackle Section #3 (Recovered Temple and Fire Node).

I want to hear from the Section 1 and 2 managers, and from (if we have one) the final editor/doc creator volunteer. Hearing back from anyone else who is getting the books in and wants to volunteer to help out would also be very welcome...it has been a while since the call first went out.

For reference, there's already a partial resource available (if you want to get a jump start on parts of it). Take a look HERE:

I'll doing statblocks for whatever my group hasn't gotten to yet and whatever someone else hasn't done yet.

My group has presently defeated the Air Temple, removed the orcs, and defeated the Water 'Bridge'. So, I'll be starting from tha point as soon as I get the chance.

Forgive the off-topic, but does anyone else find the new artwork to be really cool?

Back onto topic...Section 1 mentions Homlett and the two mini-areas I'm covering, but not the Moathouse.

Off-topic....I wasn't so keen on the new Marilith/Balor picture, but the others I've seen are great (I can't wait to see the actual, live verson of the "traps" picture).

Back on.

Section 1 (called "Part 1" in the module) is everything from pages 8 through 37, and the associated characters in the Appendix. This includes the Moathouse.

Section/Part 2 is the CRM, Outer and Inner fanes: pages 38 through 136

Section/Part 3 is the Recovered Temple and the Fire Node: pages 137 through 154.

Yes, Part 2 is by far the largest and most involved. That's why we have two section leads.

Okay, I've updated my post above. smetzger, if you work on the Air Temple, that'd help a lot. When you finish it, let me know which section you want to shift to and I'll update it above. When I get my book, I'll work on the next section my party is heading towards, which might be the western bridge complex and inbetween areas.

off-topic: I love the artwork, too.

I would love to volunteer to help out. Any section is fine. Also, is there a checklisy that people are using to update things?

And finally, in places where there are choices (ranger NPCs with combat styles come to mind) make an educated decision and then let the section head decide?
