Re: Yes I'm still in...
I'm still available for editing and possibly final compiling as long as the timing works out! I'm not sure how the timing's going to go, but if the bulk of my work isn't needed until mid- late-August, I should be fine.

Volunteering
If this is the place to volunteer, I'll sign up to start with CRM18-36 (the area south of the main gate) as soon as my books arrive.

Sounds good! I updated my previous post. I put in 15-35, though (see if you agree), that includes the spider, but not the trolls, who are a part of the bridge complex. That way, someone doing the bridge complex can do the whole thing.

Should we (I) make a post in the ... FAQ? ... giving the assignments? That way, it's easier to find and can be referenced. Should it be another sticky instead?

Re: Volunteering
While I'm not too keen on having another sticky thread, I think it would be an idea to get this baby up. So yeah: New thread and then perhaps a PM to one of the mods with a request for making it sticky.

I'm still available as a section leader and will do as much as my schedule permits.

Sure, sounds good. I'm in Canada, so my books may arrive later than they do in America. I've pre-ordered them from Amazon.ca, so who knows... I'm looking forward to converting Vranthis quite a bit, the Red Dragon update on the Wizards site had some interesting changes.

My party has yet to let me know where they want to head next, so I may do other areas, too. Once I find out where my party plans to go, I'll let you know. They might hit the Air Temple, but I think someone's already signed up for that, the Northern Bridge, or the monster area between the earth and water temples (204-198 ) .

Infiniti2K et al, I would suggest that section leads keep separate assignment lists, rather than a master list, and update it themselves.

Re: Volunteering
If I might suggest, then, a new thread...Cordo, if you could please start it, and post the "Section 1" Notes and assignments? Then Siobharek or Infinity2000 could post the "Section 2" notes and assignments, and I can follow up with the third post in the thread...Section 3?

This way, each of the section managers can edit their own posts right at the top of the thread, and other material and discussion can flow from the rest on down.

Sounds good. I will post as soon as I write up a list of all the stat blocks and other areas that should be checked (in the next day or so).

Things are getting close so maybe we should finalize official template as well before everyone starts going in different directions.

Re: Volunteering
Ok...I'm going to put together a sample stat block for formatting purposes. Alas, my first attempt was eaten by an edit error (please check all the notes at the bottom, they're important.

Fire away if you have any comments or suggested alterations to what is being proposed here.

Quote:

Page 180
Erdso: Male human Mnk8; CR 8 (currently 7 without gear); Medium-size humanoid (human); HD 8d8+8; hp 50; Init +3; Spd 50ft.; AC 13 (touch 13, flat-footed 10); Atk +10 melee (1d10, unarmed strike); FAtk +10/+5 melee (1d10, unarmed strike) OR +9/+9/+4 melee (1d10, flurry of blows); Grapple +6; SQ Monk abilities; AL LN; SV Fort +7, Ref +9, Will +4; Str 10, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 8, Wis 6, Cha 10.

Skills and Feats: Balance +5, Climb +11, Listen +11, Move Silently +14, Spot +0, Tumble +14; Alertness, Stunning Fist, Deflect Arrows, Dodge, Improved Trip, Weapon Finesse (unarmed strike), Weapon Focus (unarmed strike).

Monk Abilities: Unarmed strike, flurry of blows, evasion, still mind, ki strike (Magic), slow fall 40 ft., purity of body, wholeness of body.

Posessions: None (held by Yrthuk Innar).

Erdso is typically found in Sublevel 1 of the Inner Fane (page 135).

Note: Stunning Attack monk ability now a bonus feat on the feat list. Leap of the Clouds no longer appears as a monk ability in 3.5 edition.

Some comments about the format:

1) A few practical words of advice. Write it out in notepad. Copy (don't cut) and paste into your post. Remember to turn off emoticons. If editing, check to be sure some of your statblock hasn't been changed to HTML by the automated system...if it has, it will EAT your post when you repost it, destroying it and replacing it with "HTML Comments Not Allowed"! This is why you wrote it in notepad in the first place.

2) Yes, please enclose the statblock in quote blocks, and use a separate one for each. It helps clearly deliniate one from the next.

3) Try to follow the format in the book as closely as possible, save for making the changes we're adding for 3.5. Pay careful attention to the use of bold and italics and reproduce it as exactly as you can, as it makes the work of the editor much easier if you are consistant.

4) Be sure to include the page number of the original statblock at the top, and the reference line (in the format I used here) for where the NPC is typically found in the adventure at the bottom.

5) Additions and changes to the statblock are displayed in teal. If you don't already know, you can make something change color using the following tag (use [] in place of {}).

{font color=teal}teal{/font}

6) Deletions from the statblock need to be mentioned in a note at the bottom, so that nobody asks the question "well, where did it go?". As this, too, is a change/additional information, it also is teal.

7) It is perfectly acceptable for a creature/npc with one attack to list it in this format:

Atk +15 melee (2d6+5, bite); FAtk same

8) A summary of the changes to appear in all stat blocks:

- Addition of the FAtk and Grapple figures.
- Typical Location information

9) A summary of the changes that might appear in stat blocks:

- New or changed class abilities
- New or changed skills or feats
- Changed ability descriptions
- Changed spell lists
- Changed posessions
- A note at the end listing deleted items.

10) Please remember that this updated stat block should include both the changes from the Errata AND the changes from 3.5. Also remember that it is NOT to include any other material...no splatbooks, no other sources.

11) As a reminder, our goal is to convert these creatures and NPCs with a minimum of alteration. A literal translation should be used wherever it makes sense, with an interprative translation applied only where a literal one falls short. We're not trying to rewrite it, we're simply trying to make it 3.5 compatable. If in doubt, ask your Section Lead.

As an example, the Salamander Noble in room 1 of the Fire Node is listed as having a Ring of Haste, and lists in it's tactics that it will use the Haste effect to cast fireball and attack, both, in each round.

When I revise it, the ring will not be included, and instead the Salamander Noble will have "Quicken Spell-like Ability: Fireball" as a substitute feat. This is a case where a literal translation does not bring about the anticipated effect and work for the described tactics, so a minor change is used to achieve the original intended effect.

been off the boards for a few days... just like to say that I'm still game to help out, though it may be a while before I get my books... takes a long time for them to filter through to the emerald isle. I don't really mind which section I work on, the first section lead to press-gang me has themselves a statslave!

CRACK

You wake up, chained to a PC, Notepad app on. Next to you, on the desk, is your well-thumbed copy of RttToEE. Pages 43-105 are marked off with small bookmarks. Once you get v3.5, the Mines await...

Don't mind me, I'm craaaaazy!

So far, nobody's explicitly volunteered for Part 3, and I'm ok with that. I'm ready and willing to take it on solo, and shuffle every volunteer that isn't too particular back into the Mines. That's the ugliest portion there is.

Now, I'm off to start prepping the statblocks in their original format, so that I have a base to edit from. I recommend the same to everyone else. If you have them pre-typed up, editing them is that much easier.

stupid leg irons... ok, as and when I get some spare time and I'm not preparing for the next session in my own campaign, I'll start working up the existing stat blocks, ready for editing as Andorax suggested. Unless you and Infiniti have some master plan I'll just start at the main gate and follow the progression.

The teal on dark grey is close to invisible for me (r/g colour blind)... can we please use a different colour for the changed material?

All the statblocks?
Are we doing full statblocks for all the monsters, or just the ones that already appear in the appendix? I'd really like to see all the monsters done, too; that way we've got a single document with a complete set of statblocks for easy copy/paste when prepping for a session.

Re: All the statblocks?
The teal was chosen because it would, hopefully, be visible in both a black-background (such as the dark grey here) and in a white background (such as the eventual PDF). If others would prefer, or suggest, something like lime or fuschia as preferable for our in-forum statblocks, and our editor wouldn't mind doing a color-replace for the final version, I'm perfectly fine with the idea.

As far as statblocks go, we will not be doing full statblocks for every creature in the CRM. Everything that used to be a reference to the MM will remain a reference to the MM, with adjusted hps as needed (for a change in HD of the base creature) and appropriate (changed) page references inserted.

To do so would go well beyond the scope of the project, and would delay it significantly, perhaps indefinately. As well, it would vastly increase the final size of the "product". The goal of this project is to make RttToEE 3.5 compatable, not to rewrite it as one person or another thinks it "ought" to be.

Re: All the statblocks?
Yes not to mention that giving full MM stat blocks might not be appreciated by WotC, they seem to want to keep conversion info to a minimum so the books are still required.

Andorax the other thing I think that people need to be conscious of for MM monsters is the CR/EL. We should note in the conversion document when there has been a change to those.

On another note, I don't think it will just be monsters and stat blocks that need to be considered:
1) Prices for items, potions, scrolls, spell casting services may be changed
2) Hit points of walls
3) Stats for traps, especially magical traps based on spells

Re: All the statblocks?
The conversion document, or so I forsee, will look a great deal like Errata. It will proceed in page-by-page order, looking something like this:

Page 9

Hommlet's gp limit should be raised to 1500 gp, according to the new 3.5 town rules (DMG pg. 123)*

Page 10

Elmo's hit points should now be 44. See the conversion Appendix 3 for more details.

Nierethi Poscurian should now be a Bard 4, with 14 hps. See the conversion Appendix 3 for more details.*

Page 11

etc.

* These are bogus changes, showing format only.

Changes to item prices, object health, trap stats, strategies based on archaic rules, and so forth will be incorporated into the page-by-page Errata/Conversion, and will include the Errata we've built so far along the way.

When we reach Appendix 3 of the Conversion Document, the note will look like this:

Appendix 3
Page 164+
Rather than list changes item by item, the entirety of Appendix 3 is being replaced by the following. This is done to take into account the changes in how statblocks are presented in 3.5 edition. Please use the following:

THE TOWN OF HOMMLET

Burne: Male human...

Re: All the statblocks?
Ok great! Now I have a much better mental picture of the document.

Obviously the stat blocks can be easily partitioned out by creature... But as far as the miscellany on the pages, are you other section leaders going to partition out by page or by checklist of things that need to be checked per page.

If we do partition out (assign) by page, we should probably create a simple checklist for people, i.e. 1) check ELs, 2) check structure HPs, 3) check town stats, 4) check for misceallenous effects of rule changes (whenever a spell or item is mentioned as being in effect or used as part of a strategy)
