Tanglefoot bag (NOT a evil doomdreamers best friend)
Tanglefoot bags are nasty. 27 str check to break free. Pretty much immobiled Thuchos. The fact that none of the NPC around the Greater Temple area have slashing weapon didnt help. I highly recommend each one carry a dagger at least.

Thuchos had used most of his spells by this stage, he rolled a 1 on his concentration check when trying to cast
a gaseous form to get out of the tanglefoot bag. He then
succeded in cast recall basical nearer to the alter but took the goo with him so he wall still stuck. Then he managed to cast heal to heal up. But had noway of escaping the tanglefoot bag.

I agree that any self-respecting (or self-flaggelating, whatever) Doomdreamer should carry a curved dagger (Tharizdun's priesthood's preferred weapon)...and not just because of tanglefoot bags...though that's a pretty good reason in itself.

Susain Carun has one but IIIRC the rest of the priestly types throughout the Recovered Temple are entirely dagger-free.

Maces are just not the best weapons for blood sacrifices to the Dark God. Hand out a curved dagger to every Doomdreamer and have them wear it with pride (even if they'd never use it as a first choice in melee).

What source and page if possible is the Tanglefoot Bag from? Seems like something I should know about before my players try to buy one and spring it on me.

Equipment section, p114 of the PHB, or, as quoted from the SRD:
Quote:
Tanglefoot Bag: Throw this round leather bag full of alchemical goo as a grenadelike weapon. When the bag is thrown against a creature (as a ranged touch attack), the bag comes apart and the goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient on exposure to air. An entangled creature suffers a -2 penalty to attack rolls and a -4 penalty to effective Dexterity. The entangled character must make a Reflex save (DC 15) or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even with a successful save, it can only move at half speed.

A character who is glued to the floor can break free with a successful Strength check (DC 27) or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A character trying to scrape goo off himself, or another character assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the character who hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo he happened to scrape off. Once free, a character can move at half speed. A character capable of spellcasting who is bound by the goo must make a Concentration check (DC 15) to cast a spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 10 minutes.

My group likes to use these in combo with alchemist's fire on spellcasters. Really nasty, especially when the caster is solo. I've tried to figure out how to minimize the effects, but the lower level clerics so far haven't been too lucky with them :|

IMC, I ran "The Alchemist's Eyree" (a free adventure from the WotC Website) as a side-trek, and the party recovered a horde of this sort of stuff.

Turned right around and sold it, wholesale, to Spugnoir who opened up an entire new "section" of his business.

Maybe it had something to do with Tsindin being desperate for a healing potion and accidentially drinking Alchemal Fire.

I really don't like tanglefoot bags, even if you tone down some of the wording/interpretation they are still better than most 1st and some 2nd level spells.

It is the duration that makes it such a nasty piece of equipment. Else it would be about equal to a 1st lvl spell. After all, a failed save means the caster cannot move from the spot and lose 4 dexterity and needs to make a concentration check DC 15 or so (remember a natural 1 on a skill check is NOT an automatic failure). The caster is not helpless, can still attack and cast spells. In general spells like hold person can have a nastier result.
