bridge complex and the demon
My party will be approaching the earth bridge complex near the fire temple. Ive just read up on the Bebelith. OUCH !

A couple of questions.

1. 30dam reduction / +3. Do magic weapons below +3 have an effect? i.e. is it reduced by 20 for a +1 weapon, reduced by 10 for a plus 2 weapon?

2. Do I read it correctly that the demon isn't held in the circle? Wow, that sorceror is mad indeed if he placed that trap there. I mean ..... one stray rat and his whole complex is dead !

Looking forward to the Render fight as well :O)

1. For DR 30/+3, weapons below a +3 enhancement bonus do no damage if they do less than 30 points. Anything about 30 points damages the creature. For example, a barbarian with a +2 holy flaming thundering greataxe crits the bebelith and rolls up 65 points. The Bebelith takes 35 and does not need to make a massive damage save. That that is requires +3 enhancement, not +3 or more on abilities (thus the example).

2. That's the way I read it, too. Eeridik is indeed insane IMO and it's quite likely that everyone in the Eastern Bridge Complex is on the edge given the danger zone. I picture all the mooks as a bunch of Kramers (from the TV sitcom Seinfeld).

Re: bridge complex and the demon
My thought is that a summoning circle, especially one occupied by a powerful demon, radiates "bad vibes" that things like Rats pick up on and flee from.

It's also worthy of note that the doors are closed quite tightly and securely. In fact you might even want to play up this fact...note that they're fairly tight to the floor, or perhaps even that they're not like any other doors, but that the entire crack at the bottom has been stuffed with cloths.

"Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

Re: bridge complex and the demon
Just to make a clarification for the original poster, from the SRD:

{Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains.}

So in I2K's example,

{+2 holy flaming thundering greataxe crits the bebelith and rolls up 65 points}

all three of the special energy damages (fire, good, & sonic) ignore the DR (and are also not mutiplied on the crit, as a side note). It's usually only the physical damage done by the weapon that DR stops. So, roll the weapon damage, add the enhancement bonus (+2 here), Str modifier, Weapon Specialization (if applicable), etc. (most any non-die-roll damage bonuses). If you crit, you do these bits for each muliplier, add them up, and then add physical die bonus damage like sneak attacks (once). Finally, subtract the DR from this total.

No matter whether you get through the DR or not, you get the three energy damages, which you roll once (crit or not) for each type on the weapon.

Hope that helps!

Edit: Had sneak attack multiplied by crit. Whoops! Reworded it a little.
