How players can enter the Fanes !!?
I was just wondering about something.
Just what would prevent the players from simply climb up outside the crater ridge, climb down again on the inside and then swim (or even dive) to the Outer Fane ?
Where they could use Stone Shape, Pass Wall .. whatever to enter ...

As far as I know the lightning towers wouldn´t react. So what kind of sentries did I miss ? :(

And a little question on the side. Are the CRM supposed to be south west of Rastor cause for some reason I always imagined it to the north ?

Yeah I suppose
The only problem with your concept of infiltration would be the thickness of the crater walls of the Outer Fane. It would take days of memorization to "tunnel" through with Stone Shape; Passwal is at max (20th level) good for only 20 feet of passage; Dimension Door is possible but you'd better have a good idea of where your going; Teleport, same as Dim Door but better range ...

Basically, if you players chose to climb the outer crater of Mount Stalagos, cast waterbreathing and swim across the Stalagos to below a door and then Dim Door (with a guesstimated distance) I'd let him do it without much problem (only two people could do this with one Dim Door caster). However, if they wanted to "excavate" a tunnel using Stone Shape then I'd assume that they'd attract the attention of any monsters in the Stalagos (starting with the Chuul but then making up encounters as I'd guess that the Stalagos is as monster prone as the rest of the CRM).

The inset map showing the overview of the CRM and Fanes has an arrow pointing to the northeast which reads "Rastor 6 miles". However, feel free to put Rastor anywhere you like ... just as the adventure is set in Greyhawk but many put it in the FR ... as it is your campaign. There's no compelling reason to put the CRM southwest of Rastor.

Re: Yeah I suppose
Two other factors might deter your players. First of all, the Stalagos waters almost beg to be stocked with nifty water monsters. Second, it has been suggested that the Spider Eaters nest in crevices in the walls of the Outer Fane itself. I'mm sure that they would notice any adventurers trying to scale the Fane.

Signifying nothing.

Ah, that sounds good :) .
Thanks ... I will definitely place Spider Eater nests in the walls.

Thanks !!
