Spider Eaters carrying capacity ?
Does anybody know how much load a spider eater can carry ? How many SERīs can actually ride on a spider eaterīs back ?
In my case I sent two of them along with Dunrat back from the Fane (even though these two stayed behind hiding in the woods until called upon).
Now I donīt know how many SERīs would ride them ... judging by the amount of SERīs and spider eaters it seems to be one to one.
Oh, and are there any special rules when you fight from the back of a flying mount ? (do you have cover, is it harder for you to hit your marks, can you fall over) ?

Re: Spider Eaters carrying capacity ?
I guess what the Spider Eaters can carry aloft depends on their Strength score and their size category.
I don't recall their Str offhand (around 20?), but I believe a Huge creature gets the carrying capacity listed in the PHB for its Str x4.
Being a flying critter, it can only fly when carrying less than a Heavy load (IIRC - anyone care to comment?).
As a shortcut and rough guess I'd say that one armoured warrior rider is a light load and two (or three, maybe) would be a moderate load.
I guess you could assign a cover bonus to the rider's AC if flying and attacked from below (1/2 or even 3/4 cover).
Alternatively you could just roll randomly for hits on the M-size rider or H-size mount unless the PCs specifically target the rider...I think a cover bonus is fine in that case.
Any cover bonus should only be applied when attacked from below, though.

Re: Spider Eaters carrying capacity ?
According to the MM: A light load for a spider eater is up to 612 pounds; a medium load, 613-1224 pounds; and a heavy load, 1225-1840 pounds.
Also in the MM, under the description for Speed/Fly: The creature can fly at the listed speed if carrying no more than a medium load.
The PHB has some rules I think about flying mounts, as does the DMG. It may take a little cross referrencing but it is all there, IIRC.

I don't have a reference, but I believe a flying creature can carry up to their max load, but moves at 1/2 or at best 2/3 movement rate if greater than medium load.

Re: Spider Eaters carrying capacity ?
Actually, according to recent FAQ/Errata, a flying creature cannot carry more than it's Light load limit and remain aloft.
