Uskathoth's Letter from Hedrack
Has anyone created anything as a visual aid for this? I've found out the hard way that I'm not good at doing it on the fly, and if I can find things to make my life easier in general I'm all over it.

Re: Uskathoth's Letter from Hedrack
Hmm, great stuff ... but may I ask where the Journal Fragment and the Book of the Dark Eye are meant to be placed ?

And the letter to Fachish seems to have been written after a party wipe-out. Is that ture. Or where is it meant to be used ?

And it would be great to know where DīGranīs notes come from and what heīs talking about regarding sea hag and giants and Rastor drunk and DīGran seems to be in command of a vast army of guards. Hedrack has seemingly a brother and an obelisk is transported somewhere ...
... that all is highly interesting only a context would be nice.
Maybe there is a campaign log out where this stuff belongs to ?

Kyle

Re: Uskathoth's Letter from Hedrack
My campaign was heavily adapted, so there is no log. I set it in a homebrew world, split the module in half to run it for two parties simultaneously, and scaled it up to try to challenge my higher level party (which was a mistake, looking back.) So even if there was a campaign log it wouldn't help much.

Keep in mind that I ran "Cradle of Madness" as a lead-in module, so IMC the Chosen One was the boy, not Lareth. His tie to Tharizdun caused him to reach age 13 in about a year.

The Journal Fragment was used as an early clue. You can drop that in pretty much anywhere. You could even use it as a sort of sudden seizure-like rant that Lareth has if the PC's visit him in Nulb and mention the cult. Not how I used it, but cool nonetheless.

The Book of the Dark Eye is specifically mentioned in the Reliquary of Fire (CRM 122) and you should be able to plug this in pretty much as is. There are some minor changes -- like I made Falrinth an elf and there's a treatment of how elvish warriors initially defeated the temple.

Part of that history refers to our original ToEE campaign when the paladin found a magical necklace and was thinking about trying it on. "Maybe we should wait and get it identified first" said the rest of the party. "Aw, come on -- how many cursed necklaces are there!?" said the paladin. The next thing he said was "YURK!" as he slipped on the necklace of strangulation.

Note that my players really got hung up on the prophecy, even though it clearly says at the end that it has definitely run its course. That's there as background.

The letter to Usakthoth assumes that Hedrack is aware of the party and has been monitoring them. The letter is notifying Uskathoth that he's getting some support from Ukemil and his lions. (The party pretty much wiped out the Earth Temple but allowed some of the higher priests to get away, and they raised some of the lesser priests, etc.)

The letter to Tessimon could be used as is. Note that this particular party came into the CRM from an underdark bolthole and arrived in CRM 174. They worked their way backward through the bugbears and the Eastern Bridge Complex. Hence the reference to Eeridik's defeat.

The letter to Fachish did happen after a near total TPK assaulting the Fire Temple a second time. (The first time she Word of Recalled out).

The letter to D'Gran should really be re-addressed to Terrenygit. But with that change it could also be used as-is.

D'Gran's diary is pretty heavily modified. Basically, I uprooted him and his forces and transplanted them to the main gate. (Both my parties snuck into the CRM through back doors, so my intention was to make this sort of the CRM capstone encounter -- also I was editing the CRM down to a smaller size.) There's a bit more going on here than I really have time to explain.

The notes from the Third Ascendancy are the papers found in the Recovered Temple, room 20. Those can pretty much be used as is (with the caveats I outlined in the Book of the Dark Eye above.) Hedrack has no brother, he just refers to fellow doomdreamers and high priests of the EEE as 'Brother'.

FYI, I personally love fonts and really enjoyed the scrawly, unreadable nature of the fonts used in these handouts (who says 'comprehend languages' does anything for a guy's handwriting??). If you want to recreate these styles with your own handouts, check out the free fonts at chank.com. The ones I specifically used were 'Collateral Damage' by Chris Hunt (for most everything) and 'KOENIGSBRUECK' by Stefan Claudius (for Hedrack's handwriting).

Enjoy.

Whew, thatīs heavy changes indeed.
But I still like it :) . Seems like I will have to do some writing work myself.
Thanks for putting these things in perspective.

Maybe if we get enough people to sign a petition, Thrommel will write up his campaign log(s) of the past. :)

Only if the petition is written on hundred dollar bills.

That was almost a year ago!

Thrommel, I just wanted to say thanks for the links to the fonts! I love fonts, too, and I grabbed a bunch from there to re-do the letters to fit into my campaign. I love the fact that Hedrack's handwriting is nearly illegible . . .

Thrommel, no problem. I just have to find my Monopoly set. I'd be happy to use 500 "dollar" bills, too. :)

Tell you what. If everyone on the board sends me a hundred dollar bill, I'll coordinate getting them signed. When it's completed, I forward it on to Thrommel. It might take me a while, though.
