To Kill or not to Kill, that is the?
Ok, I have my game tonight and as I was prepping realized I need to make a decision.

Background...
Party attacked main gate,(second try) killed remaining guards and leaders except for Terrenygit, who retreated toward Earth temple. The party followed and in the resulting fight three characters were dropped into negs as they tried to escape. Three fell and stabilized before bleeding out, and three escaped.

Terrenygit left the fallen ones to the earth temple as a thanks for their help. So now they are conceivably prisoners of the temple.

So do I leave them this way and see if the party rescues them or do I just have them already sacrificed?

The players have already made new characters so they will not be out of the action waiting to see what happens.

Let them survive!! At least some of them. It depends on how much sweet time the party takes to rescue them; but the dramatic tension is greatly increased if the party has to sneak into the earth temple to try to rescue their comrades rather than just slaughter everyone.

It also means that at the right moment the earth temple can bring out the captured PCs and use them as bait / bargaining chips / etc. It just might make the whole thing a bit more interesting then slaughter/hack/kill.

Of course...if the players are ok with playing the new characters...the old ones could have been irrevocably brainwashed into joining forces with the earth temple.

Can I have a muahahahaha?

I would kill one per week, starting three days after they are captured. Of course being demonstrably dangerous, I'd also chop their hands off (as well as the tongues of any obvious casters) to prevent any funny stuff.

"They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers. They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station

Don't forget the other prisoners in the earth temple (Tenaris, I think) and another. Personally, I think the temple would use a queue algorithm (FIFO - first in first out), so the previous party members would be the last to die. As an alternate, there are plenty of places to sell prisoners: arena, fire temple (I'm sure Firre could use some more, and Tessimon needs a new item), the bugbears Fesad and Stearan need to make another corpse bomb, and the Outer Fane always needs some fresh blood, so to speak. I think a minor magical item like a potion or a scroll, or maybe just a 100gp or so would be sufficient.

This has the added benefit of some really fun RP. The party defeats the earth temple, but doesn't find one of the PCs. Capturing Snearak (e.g.) and questioning him, they find out he has been sold to Claaginred. This now gives them the motivation to take out the south gate, the air temple, and the arena, or to bluff their way in to see the next "event" only to interrupt it and save their comrade...who has been sold to the Water Temple. You catch the drift? :)

Yeah I catch the drift. :evil and I like where its going.

I'll have to see about that.

I have one human, one Mul (darksun dwarf/human mix) and a gnoll thats not evil like his bretheren.

SO far they have been prisoners for about 36 hours or so, and it appears it may be another 12 hours plus before the party tries entering the CRM again.

The party doesn't seem to realize that any of them were captured. Even though they saw the priest heal the fallen human enough to stop him from bleeding out and order two of the trogs to drag him away.

The other two fell as the tried to retreat and all they saw was them laying on the ground. (but they both stabilized before bleeding out which would have given the trogs a chance to heal them.)

Any other suggestions along Infiniti2000's line of thinking?

I don't know if I caught this in time, but my character (was a player in Andorax's campaign, have already seen most everything/was debriefed on what I missed, no new spoilers) was captured by the CRM folks. She was stripped to unmentionables, and left bound in a room. As I live with the DM, I sat down with him the day before play, and escaped. Made the first break bonds check fairly easily (high strength comes in handy!) and then preceded to roll a 20 on my break check for the barred door, after declaring a feat of strength. (Clerical strength domain) Being unarmed or armored, she made a sprint down the hall, luckily turning the right way the first time, and out the main doors.

Long and the short of it, I was able to let the group know that I had my character ready, as I am notorious for being a slow creator!

Having captives in the module can end up with some fun and interesting scenarios'. BTW, do make sure there are no floral shifts to be found in Rastor, how embarrassing!
