Players found symbol EEE. What now?
My group has just found a couple of symbols of the Elder Elemental Eye and are planning to ask Rufus about it. What should he exactly tell? Or please tell me where I can find what he would tell.... :o

Thanks!

IIRC, Rufus and Burne were both involved with the fall of the original ToEE and should be able to fill the players in on the History As The Locals Know It section on page 5.

They would both recognize the EEE symbol.

I agree with Zenon. However, unless the party has ready access to the town's leaders, chances are that the guards at the keep will direct the PC's requests to either Canoness Y'Dey or Yether Keen. Read up on their sections in the module area descriptions for what information they know (including the History as the Locals Know It).

ok, but what if....
Ok, but what if Rufus (who they already met, so they will be able to talk to him) says that he knows the symbol and tells about the history. May be the PC´s ask him whether evil is lurking again and he says: "I think so" and the PC´s ask him why he doesn´t sent his best adventurers with them...

What should I do then? :\

Why Rufus and Burne don't get involved
First, how much of the adventure have your group completed? Did they get their hands on the EEE symbols at the moathouse? Did they find the obelisk chamber?

The moathouse and the ToEE have always attracted unsavory types...from the Lords' perspective the current group of cultists are far from the first to poke around the moathouse...without some evidence of what they're up to, the Lords don't know any more than the PCs. In fact, the PCs have taken the intiative and the Lords might well sponser them to continue investigating.

As to 'sending their best adventurers with them' who exactly would that be?
Hommlet doesn't have a SWAT team - the town is policed by 1st-level warriors and the higher-level NPCs in Hommlet all have jobs to do...plus having a few levels of a PC class doesn't mean the big-name NPCs are willing and able to leave their responsibilities and go off investigating - particularly not if a group of hotheaded young sellswords are available to do it in their place.

Use the Lords to direct the PCs to continue investigating.
Bear in mind that Hommlet is a sizable town and it has more troubles than some cult poking about. Lots of mundane daily-life stuff happens to the NPCs 'off-camera' - they're busy keeping the town running.

The bottom line is, if the PCs feel that they're up to the job, the Lords or Y'Dey or Elmo can be sponsors for the PCs. Minor rumblings of evil cults around the moathouse and ToEE have almost certainly happened many times since the fall of the Temple, and the NPCs need some real evidence of something bad happening (more than just some EEE symbols) before anyone will panic about it.

Rufus etc. should be interested of course and want to be kept informed if the PCs find anything of note, but it's the job of hireling adventurers such as the PCs to find out what's going on.
Use the Lords to prompt the PCs to keep at it - reward them with some funds/potions/whatever and make them feel their efforts are appreciated, but finding a few EEE symbols isn't the end of the world...well, not yet. :evil

The PCs should only really begin to realise the true danger when they reach the Fanes at the Temple of All Consumption...right now, a couple of minor priests of an evil cult and a few gnolls poking around the old moathouse (again!) aren't really any great cause for alarm to the big names in Hommlet. Have the Lords give the PCs their backing to root out this cult and find out what they're up to, but there's no need to call out the national guard over a symbol or two. :)

what about treasure
Should I give the PC's only the treasure that is rewarded in the Area's? Or also the weapons, armor, etc that the enemies are carrying/wearing? Like gnolls: they are fighting with battle-axes (or something else), but this is not mentioned in the treasure. If the PC's insist should I give them those treasures aswell?

Re: what about treasure
While it's true that it may not be mentioned as Treasure, it's certainly mentioned under their possessions in the Appendix, so of course you should give them the weapons (which they can sell at half price).

later on in the adventure, the masterwork arms and armours of the CRM troops will provide a significant fraction of the treasure in the Mines.

...it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
