Killing Heddy
Hello all. IMC, the party consists of 7 PCs, three 10th level, the rest 9th. They've entered through the air door, and went counterclockwise, killing everything in their way, until they hit Chymon. The lord spake, and there was a TPK.
They all awake to Varachan using a true res. rod on them, telling them that he's -supposed- to be turning them into skeletons right now. So basically, if the party doesn't kill Hedrack straight away, Varachan will be found out, and dead. (If they attack him and run away, he'll know the party's alive, and that Varachan didn't do his job.)
So, here's their master plan:
1. Varachan goes to Hedrack's quarters, telling him he has a suprise for him in the commons (area 44)
2. While Varachan is taking Hedrack to area 44, 5 of the party members will run by the guardian in area 20, going to the Greater Temple. There they will attack and try to kill the dark being guarding the area.
(IMC, the Flesh Golems have been replaced with an Eidolon, MM2 pg 180, and the Hounds of Darkness with a dark tentacles, MM2 pg 54).
3. Varachan will introduce Hedrack to his "present," the now-scantily-clad party bard, in area 44.
4. Hedrack and his date for the night will walk back to his quarters.
5. In the hallway by room 28 and 29, the party rogue will be hiding, waiting for Hedrack to pass. When she sees that he is coming, she will run ahead to the party in the Greater Temple, telling them to be ready.
6. Once Hedrack is in his room with the bard, 5 of the PCs will stand outside his door. The other 1 will be in the Greater Temple, ready if Hedrack casts word of recall.
7. When the bard yells the key phrase, the party will dimension door into Hedrack's room to kill him dead.
It's complicated, there's a couple spots where I think it could go wrong, but man I'm proud of them.
I'll have the Mission Impossible theme playing in the background, of course.

Re: Killing Heddy
Dimension door into Hedrack's quarters?
From the SRD on Forbiddance:
Forbiddance prevents creatures whose alignments are different from the character's from entering the area. Additionally, the spell seals the area against all planar travel into it, including dimension door, teleport, plane shifting, astral travel, ethereal travel, and all summoning spells. At the character's option, the abjuration can be locked by a password, in which case it can be entered only by those speaking the proper words (no saving throw allowed to those who don’t speak the password, although SR applies). Otherwise, the effect on those entering the warded area is based on their alignment relative to the character's.
Hedrack's got a forbiddance spell in his room. They can't DD in.
Otherwise it sounds great. Why not have Varachan suggest that he sacrifices the bard right away in the Greater Temple and have the party wait for Hedrack there? My group took Heddy out in the Temple. One can't teleport to the Inner Fane if one's been hit by a dimensional anchor...

Re: Killing Heddy
Not to be a monkey wrench but ...
Rember to roll Sense Motive checks; specifically at stage 1 between Varachan and Hedrack, at stage 3 when Hedrack meets "the bard", and at stage 6 as Hedrack and "the bard" begin to get intimate.
Also there may be a Spot check needed at stage 5 as Hedrack may see the rogue (even when invisible there is a chance, albiet very small)
Otherwise, Siobharek has pointed out the Dim Door problem.

Yup.
Actually, the rogue, Kira, won't be invisible. She'll be hiding. Yeah, that's more likely to be seen. But I think the bard, Val, is supposed to grope Heddy or something right about there, to distract him.
Yup, I know about the wards on Hedrack's room. They don't, of course. I wagered that Varachan wouldn't be completely aware of that, either. Does anyone disagree with me on that? Because if so, then Varachan can tell them, and they'll walk in instead of DD in, which means that Val will have to do something to distract Hedrack while the door is going down.
And yup, Val's prepped to roll a bluff check every 2 seconds
For some reason they just don't wanna fight in the Greater Temple. Don't know why. I doubt they've thought of dimensional anchor, or if it would even work.

Re: Yup.
I'd say that Varachan would know about it. In fact, I'd say that it's very possible that he's had to hide taking 3d6 hp dmg at some point from walking in after becoming NG.
Varachan is second-in-command. I'd say that the only thing that differentiates him from Hedrack is the latter's connections to the Inner Fane.

looking back
Looking back on Forbiddance.....That ain't going to work too well, is it? Because Val is not CE.
How do you go about hiding taking that amount of damage? Or would Hedrack just not care? Nm, that seems likely. Of course the little harlot probably isn't CE, he doesn't care, he just wants some. But wait again, if she fails she cannot even enter the room. How has Varachan been getting around this?
Is there any chance she could use her use magic device skill to fake being CE? I think that's a vague possibility. But it's DC would be something like 35, if that would even work.

Re: looking back
You can no more easily walk into the room than DD into it. Hedrack would give the harlot the password so that she can enter the room, however. While "busy", she might scream out the password to her buddies when they are trying (and failing) to enter. A better option would be for them to use lesser telepathic bond (splatbook option though) or some other form of telepathy so that Hedrack might not even know about it.
Other than that, looks like a great plan, but too complicated. Complicated plans never work. They need a simple plan.

Oh yes
But does it not say that Hedrack has not passworded it, but made it alignment dependent? I don't see anything about a password for his room, though I know he -could've-, if he wanted to.
Oh yes, I realize the complexity of it. That's what's going to make this so entertaining We'll see what all goes wrong.
They had planned for Val to scream the signal for them to come in. I think they were going to use "Come! Come!" but they hadn't decided yet. So they could it make it the password, I suppose
