They caught Gren!
Hi everyone!
This is my first post to these boards - although I'v been lurking for quite a while.
I started playing RttToEE some weeks ago, and my players are currently cleaning out the moathouse.
Through clever use of tactics and quite a bit of luck they were able to get Gren - alive (she was down to excactly 0 hit points).
they then delivered her to Burne and Rufus (I thought it would be unfair to pretend that the two of them wouldn't be interested in a cleric of the Elder Elemental Eye, crawling 'round the moathouse).
Gren, thus, is about to be interrogated in the morning.
My players were very careful about the whole thing: only Burne, Rufus and two of Burne's Badgers know about the captive.
Chatrilon has found out that they went to the moathouse, though. He tries to accompany them in the morning, but they haven't made up their minds, yet.
So, what do I do now?
Should I prevent them from being able to interrogate Gren - if so, then how?
Or, if they interrogate her, indeed, what do they find out? what does she know about Tharizdun, for example?
I could need some help, here
Cheers,
tassander.

Re: They caught Gren!
It's always fun to get a prisoner. I would reward them for capturing Gren by letting them interrogate her. It would be a good way to push the PCs into clearing out the EEE group in Hommlet. She could supplement information found in Ton's journal. Also, she would know her mission: that is getting artifacts to the CRM. She may or may not reveal that, depending on whether the CRM clerics have some barrier that won't let her reveal that information. It also depends on how much information you want to give away. I wouldn't mention the CRM directly. That's all she would know though. She's too low on the food chain to know more than that. Was she the one with the obex holy symbol? If she was, she would know something about Big T. If not, I don't think she would know anything at all about T.

Re: They caught Gren!
I'd say Gren knows or believes the following.
* The clerics worship the EEE and are based in the ToAC.
* How to get to the ToAC
* The artifacts she was guarding are extremely important.
* The millhouse is held by forces of the EEE.
* There are more clerics in the Moathouse, some of whom are working on an important discovery.
* There is a portcullis trap.
* More cultists will be arriving soon to help cart back their findings.
* Chatrilion is an assassin, working for the cult.
What she specifically shouldn't know:
* Jaroo is a doppleganger.
* Anything about the grells, what Yssalanish and Geynor are working on, the hidden chapel, faux-Lareth, etc...

Re: They caught Gren!
Here is a direct quote from my session write-up (#12) on my own campaign. They captured Gren and Vacra. Gren offered little up:
Quote: The Corps follow Elmo back to the militia headquarters to interrogate the evil cleric. She is not very open to revealing much that the party does not already know and seems to care little for threats of pain or death. Gren, as she calls herself, reveals that she only had a small part in the expedition. A fairly new servant of the Elder Elemental Eye, she was contacted by Master Dunrat while in Verbobonc and joined most of the others on the road to Hommlet. Her role was primarily to protect and study any items or artifacts uncovered. She does not know where they were the wagon was going or where many of the others had come from. Although she had been in the obelisk room below the dungeon once, she can not add much about the function of it or the strange features there. She also claims not to know anything about Nulb or the Temple. Isabella and Jacob try hard to belittle and intimidate her, and Chenda pledges that she will be freed, but she either cares little for their efforts or truly knows little more than they already have exposed
I played her as a peon who had not even really been to Hommlet for long (if at all). She had a very small task in the whole affair. The touchy thing was the EEE-big T connection, which strongly depends on your own take (i.e. how much you plan to reveal this early). I wanted that to come primarily from Y'dey's research to forge a link there, so I planned on Gren just saying that there were different versions of worship (she was just too green to know better). In the interrogation, it fortunately didn't come up much.
They would have found out a lot more from Vacra, but she was unconscious the whole day having been beat down by them the mere hours before. Then my "Jaroo" came as Elmo during the night and killed both of them and the militia guard in cold blood. Seeing the cult fall so quickly, he didn't want any loose ends around revealing his true identity. IMC, he had very little allegiance to the cult and has his own agenda...

Re: They caught Gren!
Just a new thought to consider...has nothing to do with what she knows (absolutely nothing about Big T in any case).
My folks never captured Gren, but her in particular I had a plan for. She was a bored rich kid who got roped into this cult for the thrills, and really doesn't know what she's actually in for. If the right sorts of pressure and encouragement are brought to bear, and especially if someone else reveals Big T's involvement in the whole mess, she's going to forsake the EEE and "go straight".
Puts a more human face on the cult...which makes it even creepier when the next one they run into screams madly and gibbers about souls being consumed.

Re: They caught Gren!
I think there was also the suggestion a while back of most of the cultists in Hommlet not knowing much about the ToAC at all, but being from another small cell elsewhere... would be helpful if you wanted to hide any details about the place that you didn't want to reveal just yet, and maybe form the basis of a nice short side trek to clean out the rest of them...

Re: They caught Gren!
Actually, that's also similar to the idea in the sidebar in the adventure. Check out page 10. I agree. This would be especially useful if you decided to delay the big T link and changed all the Hommlet and Moathouse clerics to EEE.

Re: They caught Gren!
I'm following Andorax's lead here with Gren, my group having also captured her. She's spent all night alone in her 'jailcell' (See GenLang's Thursday Night' thread for more details), pondering her life, and she's ready to crack if the PCs do the right things and make her face the evil she's helping perpetuate. And if they help her get revenge on Yss. I copied down the list of things from earlier in the thread, and I'm just waiting for the PCs to interrogate her. This is going to be some juicy RPing.

Re: They caught Gren!
Whatever happened to LostSoul? He had some really good, but really vile ideas on the NPC interplay in the moathouse. If you are interested in really adult themes, I'd suggest you look up his thread (either up to page 20, or page 21 on ZansForCans's site).

Thanks a lot for your answers!
I'm actually already using the BOVD tie-ins. I'll use your answers as "base-line", and otherwise I'll just go with the flow, adding some creepy details.
Cheers,
tassander.
