Help with RP in the CRM???
Ok, the past 2 sessions the PC's stormed the front gate of the CRM and then plunged south into the old rail shafts. They took out the dragon, ettin, rust monster, and are stopped right before the lair of the digester. These have obviously been common hack and slash types of encounters, but they are near a bit more intelligent life.

Does anyone have any advice on some good RP opportunities throughout the CRMs?

Any help from you veterans would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanx!!

Well, the Dragon's your first good opportunity thataways, and he's already out of the picture.

Where you're at....I believe there's a Kuo-Toa spy in the water nearby. Have him come forward to parley with the group and ask if they want to be of some...assistance (recruit them for the Fire Temple raid). If they're too low a level, tell them that Nilbool will meet with them in 2, 3, 4...however many nights works best for your pacing.

Another possability...when they get past the Umber Hulks and to the room with the Troll and the Table, instead of having the Troll stand up and start swinging, have it's first reaction be one of:

"Eh? Say...how'd ya get past the...d'ju kill 'dem Umber Hulks? Awright! Ya no, D'gran's gonna want 'ta talk ta youse guys! D'ju see da Dragon? Kiltim too? Youse guys is awright!"

"Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

Several DMs have given specific quests to individual characters. Check out, for example, this thread on Tulian's Eye, that could provide hooks for roleplay with Rerrid Hammersong and other dwarves back in Rastor.

I'm with Andorax here (as on so many other occassions). Vranthis would have been a fine RP moment, but Moolowik the spy is a must. The group is right on top of him, and if he manages to persuade them to see his high priest, you can have all sorts of rp'ing with Kelashein.

IMC, I set up a 3-layered social hierarchy in the Water Temple with the clerics and the kuo-toa on top, the human warriors second, and Kadiss and his elves bottom. Kadiss was an elven supremacist who believed that the Temple of All-Consumption helped keep "filthy humans" out of his country (ToAC is IMC on the pass between Celene and Verbobonc), and his personality was quite interesting for the PCs to play up against.

IMC at the very same point (and due to the same concerns) I had Moolowik approach the party and parley (immediately pushing them to a non-aggressive stance, otherwise I was worried they may just let spells and arrows fly) offering employment by the water temple.

He invited them to meet the higher ups in his temple in arena near the air temple a few days later, providing a pass to get by the South gate guards.

It worked pretty well.

"They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers. They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station

Oh, don't forget to practice and have fun with the "gurgly" kuo-toan language. :) My players and I had a lot of fun with that... "ggggggguuuurrrgglllleee.... Air breathers!"
