Evil parties in the CRM
I noticed a thread a while back where several voiced their dilike of evil parties and suggested the the PCs get tempted by the CRM forces into performing horrible acts. I would think, that with the exception of CE and NE alignments. That even evil PCs wouldn't get to cozy with the cultists of Tharzidun. Why? Because the cultists are both evil and INSANE. When you mix the to together, all sorts of nastiness happens.
Evil characters can have plenty of reasons to fight the cult. Followers of Iuz,Zuggetmoy and Lloth could send teams in to get revenge. And being on the 'Dark side' wuld make them even more suspicous of any offers since they know the value of deceit better then most.

Re: Evil parties in the CRM
Evil parties are a lot of fun with one-shots or very limited campaigns, but are not fun with such an extended campaign like this. IMO, any evil person worth his salt would get to the CRM, tackle it somewhat and then upon the first strike (or two) from Hedrack, would say "Screw this" and leave. The DM would have to have the evil masters of the evil party constantly beating down on them to finish. More importantly, there really must be a good party attempting to beat the ToAC so now the DM must conjure one up, and that leads to additional problems.

Evil characters have reasons to want to fight the cult, but not really take it on and bring it down. That will require too much time and resources and be WAY too dangerous. At best, an evil party would group with a good one to combine forces.

Lol, come on now guys. Evil clerics will love to fight the CRM and the Doomdreamers. These guys are a danger for their gods as well and taking over a place of power like this would definitely be a considered a "good" job by their church.

And what evil character would not simply LOVE to inflict horrible things on Hedrack once they capture him? Instill paranoia among the group, give them reasons for revenge. In short, give them all the options U would normally give the evil NPC's against the good party.
Evil vs Evil r0x0r!

I once played in a N/ NE group who was in it for the money and the kicks. Torture and threats suited us just fine and we even made Celestials have to thank us. Very grudginly at that; too good to be true. :rollin

Hmm
Good points brought up. I do have a example of an evil party doing adventures. The group is bound together by commen intrests and a powerful patron. Makes interesting reading.

Let's face it, what good character would not simply LOVE to inflict horrible things on Hedrack once they capture him? ;)

Evil parties
Going on the 'one-shot' idea above. For a change of pace, have a small party of evil characters invade the mines for a strike against the temples. Have the players roll up some characters(Some drow from the underdark) and have them pop up to perform a specific task in the CRM. Retreating after it is done. This allows the regular good party to get some breathing room and shows that things happen even when the party isn't around.

And oh, good parties may WANT to yank Hedrack's fingernails out, But they can't.(Hmm Dial-A-Torturer. Low rates, Magical transportation costs extra, special discounts on victoms in groups of 4 or more)

Evil parties
Another use for evil parties is aid for the normal good groups of PCs. If the party starts getting hit very hard in a fight, the evil group could come in and finish off the CRM forces the party is facing. The E-Group can patch the party up and inform them that they owe the E-group's patron a favor.
Mop-up of any forces behind the party can be a good idea as well. The price would be any left behind treaure.
