Recovered Temple issue
Hello, could someone please point out two things for me?
1. How does the party get to the lower levels of the recovered temples, namely room 18? I can't find the stairs to there anywhere on the upper levels. I thought it was 17, and then I see those go up, not down.

2. What does Laereth really -do- in the ritual for the release of Tharizdun? Is he the only one that can blow the Horn of Darkness? I didn't see at what part he "calls forth the Princes" to make it all work.

1. This was also answered in the FAQ. It's confusing unless you have the original map. Here's the answer:

Q:

I am sitting here looking at the map of the recovered temple, but I cannot tell where the stairs in area 18 come from, can someone please give me a heads up?

A:

The stairs in 17 descend 20 feet, then continue northward, into the southwest corner of room 18. Although blocked off by rubble and not shown in the RttToEE map, there is a similar corridor coming from 14 (where the rubble is), towards the same staircase off 17, then also turning northward and entering 18 in the southeastern section of the room.

This is more clear from the original ToEE maps 14 & 15, rooms 312a and 401.

2. Although the ritual is not specified, Lareth summons the evil princes by using the elemental power gems. Together with the princes, they use the horn to break Tharizdun free from his prison. For more information, check out the BoB, page 2 section titled "Ronin, Thrommel, infiniti2000 and DeafDM's final battle. Also includes a slightly altered take on the ritual to bring back Tharizdun"

I have a Lareth question as well. Is he the same level as when he was at Nulb, only with a few new items?

At the end of the module, it depends on the campaign. Here are the choices:

1. 6th level cleric - he died and was raised.
2. 7th level cleric - didn't die or died and was true rezzed.
3. BoB version(s) - make up your own story, but you have to admit that a 4-way half-elemental 7th level cleric is cool!
4. Something else - campaign dependent, but make sure you share your ideas with us! :)

The battle in the Fire Node (or RT) should be ideally against Imix and not some supreme Lareth. I would not increase his level or anything. The purpose of the champion is not to be the strongest power for evil, but to be the one who is preordained to release the princes and Big T.

Re: Recovered Temple issue
It's still very hazy at this point (my party is in the CRM), but I suspect that IMC, it's going to be:
4a: 4th level Illusionist, 3rd level Cleric of Tharizdun, 1 or 2 levels of Mystic Theurge just for kicks, and the 4-way half elemental templates. Oh, and he's a Gnome. Did I mention his name was actually Nierethi? :) I gave away Lareth as the Champion too early, so I'm going to have him die at some point (if the party doesn't head back to Nulb to do it themselves, I'll have Y'dey or Elmo do it), and Nierethi will steal his destiny by performing some nasty ritual with his remains.

Re: Recovered Temple issue
At that point the party will be very powerful, so you might want to consider beefing him up to give him 4th level spells. If you make him Mystic Theurge 3 that would work. Sounds like fun, though. I think there's someone on these boards who HATES gnomes, who is probably cringing at the thought of a gnome Champion. ;)
