Bull Strength and Rage
I saw this quote in a previous posting:

Quote:
Terrenygit casts Sanctuary as his first action, and then spends next four rounds buffing himself up: Bull's Strength, Endurance, Shield of Faith, and Rage. He's up to 26 con by the time he's ready to fight!

Do Bull Strength and Rage stack Con bonuses? I'm still a bit confused as to the rulings of what stacks and what doesn't. If they are different "types" of bonuses they stack (e.g. luck and morale). I suppose I'm unclear about the ability score increases. Do they always stack?

Sorry bout that. It should be Endurance and Rage for Con, although Bull Strength and Rage work with the Str attrib as well.

The basics of the question still stand...

Do ability increases stack?

Re: Bull Strength and Rage
For future reference, it's a much better idea to post these kinds of questions in the Rules forum (just remove the RTEE specific bits). There is a limited number of topics and new top level ones pop the oldest one off this board...

Anyway, to answer you: yes they stack. Bull's Strength and Endurance explicitly give enhancement bonuses. The gains from rage are untyped. Untyped bonuses generally stack with typed ones.

Ability bonuses don't always stack. Many magic items generally provide enhancement bonuses to abilities. This is the same type as the spells provide, so they do not stack. Only the larger one applies.

Zans - my humble apologies for posting to the wrong forum. I figured that since Rage was unique to the RTOEE it would be appropriate. Anyhow thanks for the reply - it cleared up some questions lingering at our gaming table.

Re: Bull Strength and Rage
Actually, it's not even specific to RttToEE as the madness domain (and the rage spell) is in the DotF splatbook. The rage spell is meant to simulate a barbarian's rage, minus the AC penalty. A barbarian's rage is untyped and therefore the rage is untyped. Another question I had on this a while ago is whether or not the cleric can cast spells while under the effects of rage. I decided he could because (1) it doesn't say otherwise, and (2) he doesn't get the AC penalty like a barbarian's rage so why should he not be able to cast spells or make the appropriate skill checks?

Re: Bull Strength and Rage
Sobus: No, I should apologize now! I glossed over the question too quickly and thought it was barbarian rage you were asking about. I didn't explore the context of the quote you first posted. I think given that it is a bit RttToEE specific (I honestly didn't even realize it was also in DotF...), it was fine to post here. Sorry!

I2K: I remember that discussion about casting as well. I came down on that same side for the same reasons.

Re: Bull Strength and Rage
Nothing to add to the discussion, but since the original quote was from my game, I'm glad to see I was vindicated. :)
