NBC thread
I2k, just a note that the NBC thread only covers C205-C217. I noticed that there's a 'Done' tag next to the larger Map K line on the assignments post--just didn't want anything to slip through the cracks.

Reverse skill rank calculator
Here's a little thing I whipped up the other day to help calculate skill ranks from the values in the text.

zans.clanplaid.net/v35/re...calc30.zip
(It's got a link on the v3.5 rev page as well)

Put in the ability stats at the top and an amour check penalty, if any, and then fill in the relevant 'Totals' for each skill that's listed. Synergy bonuses will be calculated automatically. Add any racial, magic, etc. bonuses to the Misc column. If a skill is cross-class, add a "2" to the multiplier field on the right. The ranks should just fall out then and there's a total field at the bottom.

Let me know if you find any bugs or have suggestions for improvements.

Re: Reverse skill rank calculator
That's cool, Zans. Any chance you could add a couple columns for the new 3.5 Synergy Bonuses, and the new 3.5 totals? That way, it would simplify the conversion process to just entering the current skills from the module, verifying that the total ranks are correct, making any mods needed to bring the total ranks in line (or moving points out of skills that have gone away), and then reading off the new totals from the 3.5 total column.

Re: Reverse skill rank calculator
Yes, but I ran out of time and wanted to put it out since it was getting useful.

I was either going to have more columns (although the new/deleted skills make it annoying) or planning on using Sheet 2 to have a 3.5 version and a button to copy the ranks from the 3.0 sheet to the 3.5 sheet.

No time right now though :(

Xzar, could I beg a favour of you that you tackle the Air Temple/South gate? You hammer them out pretty fast, and my party might surprise me and head that way next sunday. I'm doing the water temple myself, which is the other area they might hit on Sunday.

Of course, if you don't feel like doing the air temple, I could always have Vranthis out on the hunt to discourage them from continuing down the road to the south gate... :)

Potions
madfox pointed something out from the 3.5 Banewarrens conversion thread.
Quote:
Quote from the DMG, page 286, 2nd alinea on potions: "The imbiber of the potion is both the caster and the target; therefore, spells such as shield other cannot be stored in potion form. Spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions, so spells such as shield never exist in potion form."
To me this will be a PITA, but we should at least identify those potions (like shield and detect thoughts) which cannot be potions by the rules and suggest alternates for those DM's playing by the core rules.

What do you think?

Re: Potions
AAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!

And here I thought I was being clever to shift the non-existant "Potion of Truth" to a "Potion of Detect Thoughts".

We should play it straight-up and by the rules, imho. I would welcome a suggested alternate potion for The Second's chamber in lieu of the original Potion of Truth (that no longer exists in 3.5).

Also, I think the "Potion of Detect Traps" that I put in Susain's chest is also an illegal substitute for the non-existant "Potion of Vision". Again, any suggestions?

Re: Potions
If it makes you feel better, it was the detect thoughts that made me remember madfox's comment. I think we should also consider changing out non-transferrable potions with scrolls. If it helps, I think the DMG table 7-17 on page 230 has a list of most if not all "legal" potions. Btw, there is an elixir of vision and an elixir of truth.

skill calc
OK, the Skill Calculator has undergone a major upgrade. You can grab it here:

zans.clanplaid.net/v35/skillcalc3035.zip

(also linked from the 3.5 conversion page)

The last thing I need to add is documentation, but I think most of you can figure the basics out right now.

Boxed areas are inputs from you. Fill out the 3.0 sheet by entering abilities, armor check, and skill totals from statblocks/character sheets/etc. Notice that I've grouped Craft, Knowledge, & Profession to make it a little more tidy. Hit the '+' button in the left margin to expand any of these for entry. Ranks will be reverse calculated with ability, synergy, and armor check automatically removed. Put a '2' in the cross-class column for a skill which is (sorry, didn't get enough energy to do checkboxes ;) ). Add any misc adjustments (size mod for Hide, for example).

Now, click over to the 3.5 sheet. The 3.0 points are linked from the 3.0 sheet and totals will automatically be computed the other way this time. Add additional skill points in the 3.5 column and you're done. Shaded skills are no longer in 3.5 and you must reallocate those skill points (they are not included in the total at the bottom).

For now I've linked the cross-class multiplier from the 3.0 sheet, but you can override it (or the armor check or abilities) by just typing in a number in those fields. If you do that though, make sure you open a new workbook from the template for your next calculation because you just blew away some formulae ;)

Enjoy!

Illegal Potions
I2k is correct; most of the non-spell-based potions in 3.0 have simply become Elixirs (wonderous items) in 3.5. They should be translated directly with a simple rename, not replaced with a different potion.

More new stat block info
I just notice this small change to the Full Atk line (previously just Atk in 3.0) in 3.5. When a creature has multiple attacks (usually natural, or unarmed per monk) with multiple limbs at the same bonus, they are now explicitly listed out. My reference for this is the Lizardfolk Druid sample NPC on pg. 115 of the DMG:

Quote:
... Full Atk +5/+5 melee (1d4+1, 2 claws) and +3 melee (1d4, bite), or ...

If you've already entered monster NPCs and didn't notice this, don't worry about it. I'll fix it during the copy/paste. Just a heads up for future entries!

Re: More new stat block info
Also, we still have the issue at large of whether to color the whole Full Atk line or the whole Atk line in lime. If anything, the Atk line should be line and NOT the Full Atk line. However, I'd prefer neither and just color the changes.
