Kuo-Toa: huge PITA
You know what sucks? When I was making my prep-sheets for the last session (which was the Water Temple attack on the Fire Temple, accompanied by the party), I forgot to put Urlurg on the sheet, which was the most complicated conversion of all (because of how drastically monks changed wrt stacking BAB with non-monk classes/races). So I ran Urlurg from the 3.0 version in the appendix. Thankfully, the Disintigration fizzled, and Nilbool and Urlurg took off with the Word of Recall a few rounds later, while Urlurg spent the intervening time bashing Burning Skeletons, so no-one really noticed.

Re: Skill Calculator
Admiral, I put you on the main gate and replaced Gyradon, who seems to have disappeared. Remember that I already started the thread and have done the howler. Also remember to only do the listed areas (1-14), as msherman already did the others. I think it's important to finish the main gate up soon because newer DM's will need it.

Too bad about Urlurg and the Air Temple. I highly suggest you make the same "mistake" with Eeridik, as he gets severely nerfed in 3.5.

Re: Skill Calculator
Pardon, but how is Eeridik being nerfed? He seems to be a bit more powerful (physically) due to the new Lycanthrope rules, and his spells are still quite useful, just requiring slightly different tactics.

Consider having him lurk fairly close at hand to the front line fighters...hasting them could make the fight with them more interesting, as could the various stat-buffs (at flat +4) for both himself and Tac.

Re: Skill Calculator
He's being nerfed because he cannot cast while in Hybrid form without the Silent Spell feat, and that requires a +1 level adjustment on all spells. A possible alternative is to houserule Natural Spell to work with lycanthropes like it does with druids and wild shape. Haste does not have nearly the same power, so while it's not useless, it doesn't have the same capability as before. Also stoneskin (his best spell) is also somewhat reduced in effectiveness because his natural DR is much better (magic does not trump silver anymore, and few character will have silver weapons). The front line fighters will not last long at all, but the haste/stoneskin combo on Tac will still be deadly.

Yes, he still is a strong character, but he does not pack the same punch as before IMO. I think, IMC, I will use Natural Spell.

Re: Skill Calculator
Infiniti2000, reread Stoneskin when you get a chance. It doesn't grant DR 10/Magic, it grants DR 10/Adamantine.

Thus, the effectiveness of it is absolute...since one weapon can't be composed of two materials....and it's nasty-effective on Tac as well.

As for Haste, it's still a great multi-warrior booster...if he can drop it on the warriors, or a gang of Ogres and/or Trolls (and Tac along the way), he can make them pretty brutal. Heck, even casting it on himself and then half-form shifting makes him a potentially scary combattant (especially if you have squeemish players going "oh no, I don't want to be a stinking wererat!").

Stoneskin
My apologies for the confusion. Yes, I'm aware of what stoneskin offers. My point was that the real purpose of Eeridik having stoneskin (IMO) was to compensate for the relatively useless 3.0 DR 15/silver; useless because magic in 3.0 trumps silver and almost all PCs will have magic weapons by 9th level. In 3.5, however, magic doesn't trump silver and I'd guess few PCs will have silver weapons, so it's just as useful, or moreso, than DR x/adamantine as offered by the spell. Sure, the combination is absolute, so the spell is not useless (particularly with the option of casting it on Tac), but my opinion is that there are better options for protective spells with the introduction of 3.5 rules.

Anyway, I'm also sorry for the sidetrack. I think when the conversion is done, we can start a thread discussing "improvements" in NPC's and tactics with the new ruleset. This isn't necessarily towards minmaxing either, as I remember (e.g.) at least one DM complaining that very few NPCs have sense motive.

Re: 3.5E Conversion, Section 1 Notes and Assignments
Hi folks,

My group are riding an ore cart towards the Water Temple, and are about to meet the bugbears - I see no-one's taken up the conversion of Map I, so I thought I'd put up my hand...

Caedrel, who knows he said he was going to just use 3.0 for the bad guys but wants to contribute to the good work...

Map I assignment
I was planning to do map I tomorrow, Caedrel (I'd already pseudo-signed-up last week, but had been pretty wishy-washy about it, so I wasn't put on the list). My group is currently in the Fire temple, and haven't decided their route out yet, so I may need map I done for Sunday's game.

Were you planning to finish it off before Sunday? If so, I'll leave it to you. Otherwise, want to work on it together?

Re: 3.5 Map I - thanks msherman
I don't get on the internet much from home, but I was going to work on it - there's actually not a lot to do in map I; everything's just MM references except for the bugbear rogues, Steeran, Fesad and Urolax. We've got a session on Saturday night, and I was going to finish it off for that, then post on Monday.

If I don't get through it, how about I let you know? I'm probably going to need help with the formatting, anyway...

Ah. I need it for Sunday, so I guess we'll duplicate work there. I'll just do the bear... bayer... bair... uh, absolute minimum I need for my own session then, not a full conversion job for posting.

Eh he he... "Bear" minimum... Good one. ;)

"They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers. They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station

Outer Fane
Okay, I split up the Outer Fane into manageable chunks, about 2 baddies per section. If you want to do a section, just let me know.

Delgar2, I know you said to wait a couple of weeks, so no big deal. Let us know when you are back or if you want your section reassigned. madfox, I know you're busy with BW so let me know if you are going to finish up the IF, not that there's any rush with it at the moment.

I have some prepping to do myself, so I will take a week or so before I volunteer for parts of the OF. Not to mention that Eeridik really tired me out. ;)

Sweeeet! I put you on Map L in place of Delgar2. I put myself on the first section of the OF (Chymon, Satau).

Re: Map I
I just need to convert the bugbear scouts and then I'm done. But I saw msherman's comments about whether a monster with a PC class should have elite ability scores, and whether one with only average ability scores shoud be a lower CR... did that ever get resolved?

PS. Infiniti2000, could we make as part of the initial post or something links to all of the relevant conversion threads? I'm starting to use them (thanks guys!), but am finding that the ones finished earlier are starting to drop off the first couple of pages, making it harder to find them...
