Ideas for the Air Temple/South Gate?|
I think my party might be headed for the south gate next session. If they do, I'd like to try to encourage an RP encounter, rather than a full-on brawl like they had at the main gate and, to a lesser extent, at the earth temple. I'm open to any suggestions from the Hive Mind to make this interesting.
Here's some info about my party and the air temple area to throw into the mix. First of all, the party knows that the gladiatorial games are held "in the South Gate Arena" every Saturday night. It's currently early wednesday morning in the game, and the party does have a few days of stuff to do in Rastor (healing, trying to sell loot, scribing a spell or two), so I wouldn't be surprised if they wait until Saturday night to go back.
Also, one member of the party is a descendant of Air Elementals (see my previous thread about Thicker Than Water). I asked the player the other day if he'd figured out what was going on yet, and he said he thinks that he's a descendant of someone in the Air Temple. While the Clerics themselves won't be able to recognize this, I've already set the precedent that Elementals can recognize his nature; the Earth Elemental in the Earth temple acted very hotile towards him, and one of the clerics ended up Turning him. At the Air Temple, if they get involved in a fight with the summoned Air Elemental, I'll have it avoid him until the very end; it won't disobey its orders, but it will interpret them as best it can to avoid attacking him. I doubt this would clue the clerics in enough to try Rebuking him, but perhaps a Spot check or Sense Motive on the elemental is in order?
