Elementals in RttToEE
Hi,

In the module it states a certian percentage that an elemental summoned will be evil. Monte also goes on to say that this is not specifically a problem since the elemental is bound to serve its master. So the question becomes, how can this "rule" be used "against" the players (so to speak)?

Can someone give me a situation where the elemental can still follow its master's orders and someone "screw" the party (since it is evil).

Thanks

In the case of summoning, it can't--or rather, I should say it shouldn't, by the rules. However if the monster is called (like with planar ally) instead of summoned (see the Conjuring school section of Ch 10 of the PHB for the distinction), the creature has much more free will and can turn against a good caster.

There's a good discussion in the FAQ about how this effect affects spellcasters' familiars - it's very illustrative of how what might happen...
