Loose threads dangling
My party has a habit of leaving some nasty loose threads at the end of a session. Some examples: They left the moathouse without sealing up the pit. They left the earth temple and main gate complexes scattered with dead bodies after clearing them out, and went back to Rastor.

Any suggestions for how I should deal with these situations?

When I read the title, I was thinking threads in the forum. :)

When the party leaves loose threads, you'll need to decide if anyone stumbles upon them and can take advantage of it. It unfortunately will require careful decisions on your part for each and every thread until the thread is no longer loose.

Moathouse:
This is probably not as loose as you might think. If the cult has been totally eliminated from the area, or all the artifacts have been recovered or known to have been taken by the interlopers, then chances are the ToAC will no longer investigate the moathouse. It has such a nasty reputation that even local residents will not go near it. Any additional undead it spawns will stay in and around the moathouse for a while. Perhaps after 6 months to a year, some of the undead will need to venture forth for food, but that is going to take a while and may go unnoticed for a while after.

If the cult has not been eradicated and they think there still might be artifacts located in the moathouse, then they should slowly establish another presence there. However, this will take a long time, probably longer than it would take for the party to finish the adventure. Remember that the ToAC has no further need of the moathouse, despite the presence of the obelisk. It's interesting and all that, but they are focused on the goal of releasing the evil princes and Big T. Do not try to hard to derail either the Temple of the party from that goal.

Dead Bodies:
What would you do if you were an evil cleric with a bunch of dead bodies? Given the time and money, turn them into undead most likely! You need to decide if such a task is possible. Certainly some of the more powerful dead are candidates for raising. Given the time, the temples might even be restocked. I'd say Naquent could raise Uskathoth (now 5th level) and order him to restock the temple with orcs, trolls, and undead, giving him (maybe) a bag of 50gp onyx gems.

The main gate will likely be left alone for awhile. The Northern Bridge Complex might be ordered to clear out the bodies, tossing them all into the Stalagos, or feeding them to various inhabitants (such as the T-Rex's of the Inner Fane), or using them as experiments here and here. It would be an interesting twist later on, for example, for the party to find the dissected remains of Mereclar and Wormspike in Satau's chamber.

Always consider any advantages that nearby complexes would gain in spreading out. The NBC probably gains very little, though they might take over the Earth Temple proper. It would be a very poor tactical decision to spread out to the main gate.

Brilliant, thanks! The party is currently in Rastor, having just arrived back from the temple, and I expect them to head right back after only a day or two of rest. They've told me that they plan to continue clock-wise, which means that they re-enter the main gate, and pass through the earth temple. On a spot check DC15, I'll mention that most of the bodies they remembered leaving are missing, and on DC25, I'll tell them about dragging zombie-like tracks in the dust. Uskathoth and the Swordmaster (boosted to F7 IMC, now F6) have been raised, and Uskathoth has created himself an entourage of Undead. They're now outside the temple recruiting a new Earth Temple staff.

Re: Loose threads dangling
In my campaign, the PCs did exactly the same. They had wiped out the Earth Temple and then left the area. They returned relatively quickly though, so I doubted that the temple forces would really have noted the dissapearance. Mind you, in my campaign the main entrance had been sealed of some time earlier, since they lacked the forces to keep it open. Looking at the map, I noted the dire apes and I decided that they had moved into the earth temple and had collected all the corpses in one spot as a nice larder. The dire apes caught the PCs by complete surprise. In fact, their surprise was so big that when the bard litterally died before anybody could act (surprise round + rend in the next round), it never really settled in. The fact that they had a raise dead scroll might have helped. It sure taught them some respect for dire apes as well as to NEVER assume an area to be empty even if they only left the place for one day :evil
