Identifying the Keys?
What info should be given when Identify (3.5 edition) is cast on the keys? On a lesser key last session, I gave, "It's a Lesser Key Of Earth. It opens locked areas in the Earth Temple complex. It's command phrase is 'gshplotnik' (which is already established IMC as Terran for 'Stone crushes the weak', and is the command word for the Sword of Earth). Two Lesser Keys may be combined to form a Greater Key."
Did I give them too much info? I was thinking perhaps I should have saved the command phrase for Identify on the Greater Key, since it doesn't appear that the phrase is used when using the lesser keys simply as keys.
Of course, the fact that the key is supposed to open locked doors in the Earth Temple, despite the fact that the Earth Temple doesn't contain a single door, is confusing the party quite a bit.

Re: Identifying the Keys?
I think you made the right choice. Whether that info would be available through an identify, I am not sure, but there are limited ways for the PCs to find out that the keys can be combined: either diplomacy, trial and error, or identify. Diplomacy doesn't work if your PCs kill everything. Trial and error is guesswork. So I think giving the info through an identify is not a "mistake." The command may have been too much.
For future, here is an idea. Have half the command word on each key, so that when they are combined, the command is written in full on the greater key.
