New DM to this forum
Hey folks.

The first thing I gotta say is what a wonderful set-up you guys have here. When I saw RttToEE sitting in my cozy little town's bookshop, I just knew I had to grab it. (the second edition version was the first campaign I ever played in, about 5 years ago, although we never finished it)

Problem was that I knew that 3.5 was coming out soon and I worried that it would be wasteful to blow money on an outdated campaign book--so despite my desires, I left it there.

Luckily for me, about a month afterward I stumbled upon this board and was amazed to find all the great work you folks are doing here, and I was delighted to see a 3.5 conversion on the way.

So you see, its largely thanks to you guys that I've been given the opportunity to DM such a wonderful adventure as RttToEE.

Your FAQ and Best of the Board threads are absolutely fabulous. The links to the handout sites were invaluable as well!!

Over the past two weeks while I've been on vacation, I've done a read-through of the campaign, the FAQ, and the best of the boards, so I'm set to play sometime soon. Perhaps within the next month or so, as I still need to verse myself more fully with 3.5. (Why couldn't WotC simply came out with a book of changes, rather than making me hunt through each book? ugh.)

Although I've been DMing the past two years, it was an entirely home-brewed campaign (set in Imperial Rome) and while it was fun, I have become wearied of creating new material all the time. (especially because I had to make enough content tailored to a PC group of 10 people!) I will definitely enjoy DMing a smaller, tailored campaign.

That being said, I want to know if there is anything that I can do to help. My players are taking a break from D&D at the moment so I've got some free time on my hands until college kicks up. Is there any way that I can give back to these boards that have been so generous to me?

hehe :)

Seriously though, you are very gracious to offer your services. Although I'm more of a leecher and lurker than a real contributor, I'd say that whatever you happen to specialize in creating/making/commenting on, would be a good addition to the RttToEE folk here.

Some people have come up with entire side adventures dealing with some of the dragons in the module, others have made pictures (and plans? are they around?) of origami miniatures. There are lists of miniatures to gather to have a complete hoard of monsters. I'm not sure if someone has come up with a list of (more economical and smaller to pack) counters for all the creatures, especially the types like trogs and kua-toa. (come to think of it, that would be kinda helpful!) Thrommel's various templates of horrendous baddies stick out in my mind as well. Even though I love the creation of entirely new creatures using various rules and such, I could never hope to come up with some of the stuff he has done. NPC archetypes for all the NPCs in the book (minor and major), etc.

There are many other examples I can't think of at the moment, but basically...find out something that you like to do and possibly specialize in, see if it's been done already, and if not, do it and have fun!

Welcome to the boards!

JoeSchmoe offers great advice.

"So you see, its largely thanks to you guys that I've been given the opportunity to DM such a wonderful adventure as RttToEE."

That is precisely the reason we are doing it, to perpetuate RttToEE. Thanks to Andorax for originally suggesting this endeavor.

"Your FAQ and Best of the Board threads are absolutely fabulous. The links to the handout sites were invaluable as well!!"

On that note, if anyone sees links that are missing (particularly if it's your site), please notify Thrommel to update the FAQ. The purpose is to have as many links as possible up there so when someone asks "Where have I seen that?" they at least have a place to go to research it. I put that list of links together a while ago, so I'm sure some or missing. Blakey, for one (whatever happened to him?).

Re: New DM to this forum
Glad to have done so...and I am SO happy to see another new DM setting forth on this campaign.

Honestly, one of the things that EVERY DM can do to help out here is to just participate. Be more of a commenter than a lurker. Push yourself to come up with something to contribute, whether it's an opinion about something being discussed, or as you progress further in the module, advice to those coming behind you on how to handle something.

The next best thing, in my opinion, is to go ahead and fire up a campaign log. Post the week-to-week progress of your group. This does several good things. It lets you review the session in your own mind and put it into context. It is entertaining to the other DMs (and educational, seeing not only how another DM handles things, but how other PLAYERS do). It allows you to more readily ask questions and pose new thoughts and ideas (often in another thread with a note of "refer back to my campaign thread here" tacked on). And, the afternoon before your next session, it lets you go back and re-read your own account of what happened last week (a valuable refresher).

Other than that, just find a nitche or another area where you think you could pitch in some good ideas, and go for it. We're all about helping each other out here, and I can't begin to list all the useful advice, tips, ideas, and just outright plain pirated scenerios and approaches I took away from this to make my own sessions better. I've finished the module, and I'm STILL hanging around. Love of the game, my friend...and no module yet has had better support.

"Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"
