question: recovered temple
1) on the top floor, there is a round room with several statues (or pieces): a dragon with broken wings, a beholder, a cat-like being, a giant's head...
is this an easter egg for people who played or read he original adventure/novel? or is there a flesh-to-stone critter around? (kex?) my players are freaking out about a basilisk or something... what can i offer them?
2) where is the staircase to the lower floor? i can't seem to find one on the map?
3) the party was seen by the succubus sentinel while entering the well... she teleported down to warn the guards and the doomdreamers... so what steps do the DD's take to hold back those interlopers... so far my party (5 players, all level 11) had a cakewalk with the ogres and the giant... the earth elemental was tough, but he went down just before he killed a partymember... the party is about to head into the round room... unless they stumble upon the other giants and their half-fiend leader
any answers would be welcome, especially about where the stairs are

Stairs:- Dont have my map or book with me but the stairs are located at the top-left of the map..basically take the north exit out of your statue/basilisk room and follow it round to the NW.
As in response...i took Thrommels approach and defended the entrance to the second level. I moved the beholder down to act as support to the ropers (great using eye rays when ppl are being grappled)..and then moved it back to use its Anti magic ray with the golems (Nasty tactic)..this corridor is in view of the Great temple too so you can throw in a bit of cleric support.
You can then use the assassin to hit the rear of the party if you want to make life very difficult.
If the party retreats..have your clerics memorise Glyphs etc to help defend areas which have been attrited.
Hope this helps

Re: Answers ?
woah... that blasts the EL through the roof... yikes! but it's a nice tactic! beholder + ropers + clerics + assassin... this i've got to see
i read the entry for the top NW room and it said the staircase leads up and is blocked, hence my confusion (couldn't find an errata on it)
that solves question nr 2, thanks!

Yeah it works out a really nasty encounter level..but its a sensible approach to the defence.
Basically its a layering of there defences, it was called the corridor of death in my campaign.
My party's tactic was to hit and run..drop one creature and retreat....and it gets worse if they find that antimagic scroll hidden in the ruins.

Re: EL
As I remember it, the statuary room was just that: Statues. The 3 will'o'wisps doubling as artistic lightning were a completely different story...
Yeah, it's a, easter egg. The entire Recovered Temple is a walk down memory lane for those old-timers with Eidetic Memory.

"2) where is the staircase to the lower floor? i can't seem to find one on the map?"
This is actually answered in the FAQ, not the errata. It's at the end of the first page.
