Grinder trap, Outer Fane developments
My party has made it into the Outer Fane, and killed maybe half of the important NPCs in a number of short raids (Both assassins (one captured) the drow, Naquent, Hedrack, and Daagra). Now, they are pusuing Thrommel's vaporous body from the Fire door through the south stretch towards the Grinder.

My first question is, does the Grinder have a cutoff switch? Thrommel wouldn't need to use it, but the assassins would have known about it, and when victor was captured, he was dominated and gave a detailed briefing on the OF.

Second, now that Satau, the Naga, and Thrommel are the main people left in the OF, what happens to the organization? Does someone make sure the guards are still getting paid? Who is in charge? What, basically, happens internally before the next time the PCs make a raid (assuming that they don't get Thrommel in his coffin)?

I don't think Monte included a cutoff switch, but it would not be a bad idea, should you decide that people of the Outer Fane know about it. Maybe no one is supposed to know that the secret corridor exists?

Satau is probably still a loner. Illithids are like that IMO. None of them even care about the guards. Most likely, now that his reins are lifted, perhaps Thrommel will go on a rampage, dominating everyone and killing those who cannot be bent to his will, possibly even including Satau.

Does your group need a shove? Perhaps you could just have the rest of the OF wiped out in a bloody mess and have Thrommel leave now that no high level cleric is holding him at bay. No one left in the OF has any loyalty to the cult, so would they really stand in the face of such powerful adventurers, especially after Thrommel was defeated the first time? Perhaps Thrommel parleys and shows them the door (and how to get through it) to the courtyard and the Inner Fane.

Re: Grinder trap, Outer Fane developments
I'm not sure what the corridor would be doing there if the Grinder can't be turned off. Originally, I assumed it did have a cutoff switch, and I figured Victor would know it, since his job is to lurk around the OF and pick off intruders. But now I'm not so sure.

On the one hand, no cutoff switch is mentioned. On the other hand, if there isn't one, only thrommel in gaseous form can use that secret corridor at all.

As for the rest of the OF, I'm thinking of making a lot of vampire spawn...
