Anyone done work on the Troll Lair
Krall or Slaazh (or just in their room) had a map to a troll lair in the mountains.
Anyone written this up as a side-trek or referenced it in their story hour threads?
Looks like my group is headed there this Sunday instead of to the earth temple.

Re: Anyone done work on the Troll Lair
It produced a big shrug on the part of my crew. So far as I'm aware, nothing's been done with it...yet.
I have seen a map around...a while back. Don't remember who's it was, just that it was (Troll-appropriately) crude and served as a nice handout.

Re: Anyone done work on the Troll Lair
My players had a little running gag with it. When they first got the map I made a comment along the lines that "it has written on it..." and a player finished "Don't go here".
When I restocked the gates after they had cleared out most of it, I had the party arrive just as a couple of SER's were dropping off a chest of gold for a very large band of trolls. They had been recruited for guard duty, and the players instantly recognized it as being from the troll village.
I had (I think) around 18 trolls total, including a troll shaman, several elite warriors, and the chief who wielded a +1 Huge Greatsword.
Pretty brutal fight, but the party was mostly improved invis, and was able to smack the trolls around without taking much of any damage. I wanted to get the characters up a level and give them a little extra loot before hitting the Fanes.
The other gate was guarded by a HD-Enlarged Gibbering Mouther.

Great Idea!
That's a very cool idea SIERK, considered it yoinked .
My group killed the main entrance crew and the earth temple before retreating to Verbabonc to re-equip. About 4 months (game-time) passed before they returned. Finding the main entrance protected by a powerful sigil (I wasn't expecting this delay and figured the main entrance would just be "locked" until reinforcements took over), and headed to the South Entrance. Here they killed everyone in the Air Temple and the Water Bridge, fought with the dwarven lich Stoneheart (my player's hate the BoB ) and explored into the Destrachan caves, before being driven off... back to Verbabonc another couple of months will pass before they return again.
So the Temple will have plenty of time to restock...
Thanks!

Troll Map
The Troll Map you are thinking of was done by DarkTheatre. His main page is here, just click on Handouts and then the Troll Map near the bottom. I believe the original poster's name was Lenny, but that was before my time. Perhaps Andorax or Siobharek remembers him.
Anyway, you can find his link, and others, in the FAQ, second page. Please tell Thrommel if you want to add one (either yours or someone else), and I'm sure the Undead One will be happy to edit the post. It'd probably be easiest if you send it to him as ezCode in a PM.

Re: Troll Map
Be aware of the EL of a horde of trolls, and the special problems they produce.
If you've got a fireballer or two, that helps.
A horde of regenerating trolls is a bastard to keep track of. Subdual (fine, non-lethal) damage separate from real damage.
My party got lots of use out of cleave, since these guys would go down and then pop back up. The battle took forever, which was actually fine. Some good rollicking hack & slash is good fun with the right group.
Wrapping up the battle also took forever. How do you keep a dozen trolls unconscious while you try to coup de grace them with a torch? Their Fort saves are high enough to prevent most of those from working.

No worries about regeneration
I have a simple enough notecard system to track combat and notate subdual or actual damage.
Plus, with the party knowingly heading to a troll lair, they will have massive amounts of fire damage available, including, of course, 8d6 fireballs and 8th level scorching rays.
It should be a nice rollicking good time compared to some of the tricksy battles they've been getting themselves into as they attack temples, gates, and entrances, often when the places they attack are on high alert.
