RttToEE 3.5 Computer Game?!?!
Did anybody else know about this?:

www.amazon.com/exec/obido...20-8401563

Apparently it's being produced by Atari, the same company that's been making the Neverwinter Nights games. And the ruleset is baded upon 3.5 instead of 3.0. And it's coming out the 16th, just 4 days from now.

I didn't see this anywhere on wotc.com, nor on monte's site. Did I just miss something?

The game description and screenshots can be found on atari's site:

www.us.atari.com/games/gr...pc_action/

It doesn't look like NWN-quality...but still.

Not RttToEE..just ToEE
It's been advertised the heck out of in Dungeon/Dragon, but my main reason for *lacking* huge amounts of excitement is that it is not Return to, but the original Temple of Elemental Evil that is the subject of this computer game.

This is not RttToEE. It's Gary Gygax's original ToEE. Still cool, and the graphics look better than NWN to me.

C'mon, don't write it off!

There are screenshots of getting to burn down churches of St. Cuthbert (Terjon's home church at that!) if you play a chaotic evil party! ;)

Seriously, I think this will be great, as it will give players who previously didn't have the background knowledge for RttToEE a lot of knowledge. The names Lareth, Hedrack, and Elmo will mean a lot more to them.

Moreover, since it is a Troika game (by the way, they are the developers... remember the developers do all the *real* work and deserve our praise and adolation... Atari simply distributes) we can expect good dialog and good voice acting. So on the other hand I think it will give DMs a hint on characterization.

I wonder what it'll be like...

I wish Black Isle was doing it...they put out such excellent games in the Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights series'.

Is atari the company that did the bug-ridden Pool of Radience sequel recently?

Troika is a great team of folks. Arcanum, Fallout and Fallout2 were all great examples of their work.

I am looking forward to a good RPG by someone other than BioWare. While BioWare makes great products, but they are all conceptually the same game. Newer engine, better graphics, but that's it. BG, BGII, ID, IDII, Torment, NWN, etc all have the same feel if you know what I mean. Even the XBOX version of Knights of the Old Republic *felt* like a BioWare game. This is not necessarily bad as they are all wonderful games. I'm just ready for something different. Let's hope this is it...

Don't get me wrong here... I expect it will be a great game, and it will fill in (right or wrong) a lot of background information, much like the ToEE Novel did.

I'm just not anywhere as excited about it as I would be about a RttToEE game.

dudes! Trokia! Have you not played fallout? Arcunum? (ok arcunum had a couple of niggly bits, but thats mostly due to their attempt to do a turn based and realtime game all in one.

Greyhawk: The Temple Of Elemental Evil: A Classic Greyhawk Game (yes that is the full name Atari gave it :/ ) Should be wonderful! It is based on the Steam(arcunum) engine, that had been seriously modified - 3d characters, etc. and should be the truest to DnD 3.5 rules game out! It is fully turn based, and therefore they did not have to sacrafice a large portion of how the DnD game works to make a 'real-time' type game.

Anyway, enough of me prattling on, check it out at:

Warren, as Jim mentioned above, Troika is a team with a lot of the guys who worked on the original Fallout for Interplay's Black Isle label, namely Tim Cain, who headed up the original Fallout team.

With all due respect you guys should really keep your developers (Troika, BioWare) vs. your distributors (Atari) vs. your studio imprints (Black Isle) straight... You will have more success tracking quality and the types of games you like. Don't let the faceless corporations hide who is doing the real creative work and deserves the praise.

Anyone pick it up yet? Release date was today over in the States...

The first review is up here: www.gamespy.com/reviews/s...ndex.shtml

"They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers. They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station

Re: Releases
Hmm Atari did release a press release that said the release date was moving to the 16th... Maybe that hasn't filtered down to EB... but then again I expect nothing less than idiocy from that group of charlatans, one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had was ordering from them online.

Bought the game today. Can't get it to work, probably because of bone-headed copy protection. Looks like a VERY faithful adaptation of 3.5 though--much more than NWN, since it's turn-based.

And you're absolutely right about the difference between distributors and developers. A quote of mine from the ToEE forums:

"Atari managers: May the claws of a hundred ghouls rip at thy entrails. May thy souls be overcome by the Madness of Tharizdun, of which thine own petty madness is but a pale imitation; may ye suffer eternal torment as an Unfettered, trapped in a twisted column in the Tabernacle of Utter Darkness, so close and yet so far from the writhing essence of Zuggtmoy, in whose image thy bloated, grotesque forms are made.

Confutatis maledictis!

Now go make your will saves. DC 25. All of you bastards!"

Re: moo
You may have seen this on the Atari boards but some people are getting around the copy protection by using Daemon Tools.

Also, the game is available for download on Kaaza, the full version enabled for play for 6 hours, then you can activate it with credit card to remove the 6 hour limitation. (This isn't piracy by the way, this is a deal Atari seems to have been made with Kaaza to combat rampant piracy... seems pretty smart to me.)

Re: Got it
ah, apparently the download version comes without video, and maybe one or two other things, which are lumped into a 600-700 MB extra download that you can get once you buy the game. When you buy and unlock the game you can play without downloading the extra stuff, but I guess it's just not the same.

Hee Hee.

Starting party looks like this:

Sir Polealot:Paladin
Luc Monet:Paladin
Furio:Cleric
Whitefire:D ruid
The Yellow Dart:Rogue
Fifi:D og

Almost got Furio killed in the vinegette fight due to forgetting about the AoO that is implemented.:o
Future plans might include picking up Spuginor for arcane backup.

my party
I implemented many of my own party in the game, with an addition.

Enoch - Half Elf Bard -- with all the diplomatic content I thought it would be helpful to have a character focusing on this. He will be an archer as well.
Oskar - Dwarf Fighter
Callisto - Human Cleric (Fharlanghn)
Blix - Elf Rogue
Bibble - Gnome Wizard

There are still lots of bugs in the game (like that permanent Silence bug). I will purchase it if they fix most of the bugs. Otherwise it sounds great, best 3.5 implementation, turn based combat and freedom to build your own party. Too bad WotC asked Troika to remove few things from game that we're offensive for some reason. :( Maybe someone releases little patch that adds those things back in the game...
