Goblin assassin, alternate for Bethe/Victor
Gez: Male Goblin Rog5/Asn4; CR 9; Small Humanoid [Goblin]; HD 5d6+10 plus 4d6+8; hp 52; Init +7(+3 Dex, +4 misc. mods); Spd 30 ft.; AC 19, touch 14, flat-footed 15; BAB +6; Grp +1 (+11 escape); Atk +11 melee (1d3, +1 dagger); Full Atk: +9/+9/+4 melee (1d3/1d3-1, +1 dagger/mw dagger) or +10 ranged (1d3, normal dagger); Space/Reach 5 ft./5 ft.; SA sneak attack +5d6, death attack DC16; SQ Darkvision 60 ft.; AL NE; SV Fort +3, Ref +11, Will +3; Str 8, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 6.

Skills and Feats: Hide 26, Move Silently 26, Disguise 10, Bluff 10, Tumble 15, Spot 13, Listen 13, Slight of Hand 13, Escape Artist 11, Open Locks 11, Balance 5, Ride 7; Quickdraw, Weapon Finesse, Improved Initiative, Stealthy.

Assassin Spells Known (4/2; save DC 12 + spell level; 10% arcane spell failure chance): 1st—disguise self, obscuring mist, sleep, true strike; 2nd—cat’s grace, undetectable alignment, darkness

Possessions: mithral shirt +1, dagger +1, masterwork dagger, silvered dagger, wand of invisibility (10 charges), boots of elvenkind, cloak of elvenkind, potion of cure moderate wounds, 3 potions of cure light wounds, potion of fly, potion of bear’s endurance, 3 potions of expeditious retreat, potion of lesser restoration, 3 potions of protection from good

Notes: I created Gez for two reasons. First, variety as Victor and Bethe are both human, and their stat blocks are very similar. Secondly, I am curious if my players will underestimate Gez (being a goblin and all) if they see or catch him before an assassination attempt.

Tactics: Gez tries to make the most of his racial advantages in his approach to assassination. Generally he will stalk a group from behind, using his high hide and move silently and his natural darkvision to remain undetected. Once he strikes, Gez will immediately run if there are any living opponents. In order to expidite his retreat, he generally carries a potion of fly or expiditious retreat, or his wand of invisibility in his off hand when striking. His selection of potions is geared towards escape due to his method of operation, and his healthy respect for physical danger--he hasn't survived this long by being stupid.

If the shadowing approach failes Gez will take the social approach, using undetectable alignment and disguise self to take on the persona of Sidly (a Halfling alter ego he has developed over the years) to try to befriend his target(s) before making an assassination attempt at the earliest possible opportunity.

Another possibility I thought about but eventually rejected was making Gez a Ranger 5/Assassin 4. Since assassins no longer have 3d6 sneak attack as a requirement I believe this is now possible. One neat thing about this approach is that Gez could ride a wolf animal companion, and would gain track.

But on the other hand he would lose 3d6 of his sneak attack "teeth" so to speak arguably making him a less effective assassin.

Very nice! One point, though. If Gez likes to keep himself from even being detected and because he runs away immediately, would he risk losing an important spell due to the ASF? I think he would lose the mithril shirt in favor of bracers of armor.

Mithral shirt vs. bracers of armor
The problem is basically the expense. Mithral shirt offers 5 AC at 10% spell failure for 2110 while bracers of armor +1 are 1000gp and bracers +2 are 4000gp, that's a significant portion of a 12000gp magic item budget for not much AC benefit.

Gez would mainly rely on his wand of invisibility as using it doesn't incur an attack of opportunity, nor is it subject to arcane spell failure chance. Drinking one of the potions of exp retreat, before the assassination attempt if possible, is another good strategy.
