Air Temple reaction to missing patrols?
I need some advice on the proper reaction of Fachisch to some of his guards MIA.
Basically, what happened so far is this:
My players attacked the north gate about 3 1/2 weeks ago. The north gate suffered heavy losses, but the players were repelled.
After this attack, both gates went to a higher alert level as described in the module.
Two days ago, my players killed 6 warriours of the south gate contingent who were on their way to get supplies and information from Tal Chammish in Rastor (Tal is imprisoned now).
So.. what would Fachisch do next when his troops don´t return from such a simple task? Would he send out more scouts to figure out what happened to them? Would he just think that they deserted? Would he go on alert again?

Re: Air Temple reaction to missing patrols?
First, are you sure both gates go on alert when only one is attacked? I had thought they were not aligned. Second, is the patrol a random encounter and thus does not really take forces from the Air Temple? Either way, Fachish would do little about it, thinking that they were wiped out by a rival faction. If you really think he might be worried, in a day or two he'll cast divination to figure out what happened. Or not. Chances are he'll just recruit more soldiers. Since his area was not attacked, I'd not have him go on alert. It might be interesting though if he needed emergency rations delivered by a spider eater...just as the PC's were approaching the south gate.

Gate alert
If I remember correctly, both gates go on alert status if one of them is attacked - at least that is what it says in the gate section of the module.
But you are probably right about Fachish´s first thought being that they were wiped out by another faction.
Additionally, the players left the beheaded corpses (they have had enough bad experiences with zombies) lying near the road when a pack of dire wolves approached.
If he sends out scouts, they will probably only find some torn and gnawes bones...

I just double checked your right. I hadn't realized that. That means they must talk to each other. Probably _not_ through the CRM. Maybe they both 'share' hunting parties. I am sure both make use of the easy access to the outside world and send hunting parties out to get fresh food.

Re: Gate alert
Talking about beheading corpses etc: What do people think about that in a good/evil sense? I had a raise or two done (there are scrolls of raise dead here and there) and the party started discussing corpse mutilation to prevent raising. I deemed this an evil act, because well, it is. However giving the body a 'decent' burial which also just happened to make it unable to be found by the evil clerics for raising was ok I guess for large quantities of mooks the party could pile them up and give them a 'funeral pyre' but so far my arties are not worried.
